If you are in Toulouse (Southern France), you must try this place. It's a Prix fixe menu but all of it tried and true from fellow yelper Dan K. who brought us here. Here I was warmly greeted with a kiss on both cheeks by one of the owners. We sat outside and had the best meal of our trip to France. I had the gizzards salad which was surprisingly tender and tasty. The piece de resistance was the main entree of foie gras topped mignon with a side of scalloped potatoes which are a must try. The dessert was a chocolate mousse surrounded in a lovely glaze with fresh whipped cream. This place found its niche in catering to foreign visitors by perfecting each dish in its limited menu. This bistro will not disappoint. The brothers, Max and Matt made me feel like a new friend eating dinner at their home. So much so, that I returned to enjoy my final dinner of my trip because I knew it would be fantastic. I highly recommend the duck breast and the dauphin potatoes. You can't go wrong with either of the salad choices but I particularly enjoyed the one with the fried ravioli. It's simple food that nourishes the soul. One of my favorite meals in Toulouse, and great if you want a more traditional French meal at reasonable prices and with good service. We came with a large group of 10 or so, and sat outside. It's a fairly big restaurant so it's good for large groups. They also speak English pretty well, so it's nice if you need some help with translations. All the dishes come with an appetizer (entree), and then the main course and will run around 20-25€. For the quality and portion size, it's totally reasonable. I got the duck with a citrus sauce that was delicious. The meat was pretty tender and I liked the sauce a lot. My boyfriend got the beef with foie gras on top, and it was delicious - I think I actually preferred it to the duck. I loved the dessert - I got the marquis au chocolat noir, which was almost like a slice of chocolate mousse cake, but more firm. It came with a vanilla sauce and whipped cream which was amazing. I wanted to eat two of these and will definitely get this dessert again when I come back. We had a lovely dinner here and will come back here on my next visit to Toulouse! read more

This was exactly what I needed for my first night in Toulouse - great food, a relaxed atmosphere, and friendly, English speaking staff. I am on cloud nine. After a LONG day of travel from the US, I needed a shower and a good meal. I found this place on Yelp, and since it had great reviews and was step away from my hotel, I decided to pop in for a bite. BEST DECISION EVER. The decor is cute, casual with an inviting drop of kitsch (a la red checkered tablecloths) and the kind of low lighting that makes everyone look better. I was greeted by the warm and friendly staff, who gladly switched over to English for me, and walked me through the menu (handwritten in French) complete with suggestions. I ordered the duck gizzards to start, with the Scottish salmon en papillote and the potatoes au gratin for my main, plus a glass of wine. Let me tell you - these gizzards were a game changer. I've had chewy gizzards before, and ordinarily I wouldn't go there, but the handsome French server recommended them so heck, why not? These were a completely different thing - tender, almost buttery gizzards over watercress tossed in some sort of oil. It was so simple and yet so satisfying. I was literally dancing in my seat as I ate it. AND THE BREAD! I don't eat bread. I don't like bread...unless I'm in France. This bread did not disappoint - it was just sliced baugette but, as expected, it is the perfect balance of chewy crust, moist inside, and a little salt for flavor. Wash that all down with a light red wine and I was like in H.E.A.V.E.N. The main hadn't even come out. Heaven. The salmon was cooked perfectly. It sat atop a bed of sliced leeks and julienne carrots in a buttery cream sauce. This lacked a bit of salt for my taste, but two shakes later and I was back in heaven...I had to try to slow down to not look like a barbarian shoveling down her food. The potatoes dauphinoise melted in my mouth. Potatoes melt, y'all. I never knew before. So good. Sadly, I didn't have room for dessert. With my bill came a snifter of green apple dessert liqueur and a glass of ice. I'm not big on the sweet stuff, but a few sips of the liqueur and I was good to go. Bonus - the bill was super reasonable AND they accepted Amex. I will be back. I will bring friends. This place is lovely. read more

This is my favorite bistro in Toulouse. If you don't speak French this is the place to come for the true French Waiter experience. They speak great English, are totally engaging and make you feel right at home. The atmosphere is bistro casual - red checked table clothes, dark walls and chairs, lime green accents. The crowd is always lively and if it is full it can be a little loud so don't come expecting a romantic hideaway. The menus are hand written in French, a nice touch which I enjoy but don't worry if you are not French menu savvy, the waiter will explain it all to you. And did I mention the food? I have been here several times and it is always excellent., and very reasonable, especially since it is right off of Place du Capitole which is typically pricey. The mains come with a starter and a side of potatoes - either creamed Gratin Dauphinois or french fries. I'm sure the fries are good but I have never had them as I am totally hooked on the baked creamy goodness of those grating potatos. On my last visit I stared with the sauteed duck gizzards. They were melt in your mouth good served with a butter lettuce with a little olive oil. Duck is the regional specialty here and the farm raised gizzards had a dense complexity of flavors and very tender. For the main I had the baked stuffed chicken. The stuffing included spinach, ham, sausage, and onion finely chopped and laced with Armangnac, It was rolled into the chicken breast and baked, then topped with a sauce of mushrooms, shallots, cream and flambe'd with Armangnac. Devine. I had a half carafe of the house read wine which was fruit forward with a nice finish - perfectly fine for a house wine. I passed on desert but I recommend you don't. With the bill you get a green apple appertif. I also recommend you don't pass on that. This is not French haute cuisine, but it is very good. And reasonably priced, and a fun place to enjoy a meal. If in town I recommend you people watch with a coffee or a glass of wine streetside at Place Wilson or Place du Capitole but head here for dinner. read more
