we have yet to have our wedding reception and are already regretting the decision to rent the red…read morepoppy. the owners (a married couple) are extremely difficult to work with. there are 2 numbers listed on the website, the first is her cell phone and the second is his. she will go out of her way to sound irritated when you call her and immediately suggest you call her husband. the husband, who's only slightly less irritated at receiving a phone call than his wife, is almost impossible to get a hold of. we rented the facility sight unseen due to the price, about $500-$600 cheaper than any other banquet facility in town. when we first spoke with the owner, we asked if we could take a look around the facility. we were told we could drive by and look trough the windows. this should have driven us away, but again, the price was right. we are now 3 weeks out from the wedding date and trying, once again, to make an appointment to enter the facility to take a look around and plan where things can be set up. another call to the wife, "you can look through the windows or call my husband." another call to the husband, another voice mail. i'd like to be able to know, before the day of my wedding: where can the caterers set up? where can the dj set her equipment? is there enough room for a candy stand? how many tables to i need? simple questions any bride wants answered, and at this point, probably won't be.

The day before the wedding I went to look at the ballroom and we paid 300 for SATIN sashes and there were tool on the chairs. I could have bought tool for MUCH less. When he was confronted with this he said he didn't have satin sashes (although on the table in the window there were satin sashes). We tried to find the sashes the day before the wedding and of course no one could get them on time. The day of the wedding we were promised entrance to the ballroom from 11am-11pm. We tried to get in at 11 to place ice and he said he wouldn't have it unlocked until 1pm.That's 2 hours we paid for and didn't have access to. Our aunt went in to ice cupcakes because it was easier than transporting them an hour, the owners wife sat there and looked over our aunts shoulder and made snide remarks the entire time which made her uncomfortable. The night of the wedding? The bartenders we paid for (friends of ours) arrived early to set up and he very rudely asked them where their skirts were (which was not only sexist, but completely inappropriate). They were dressed in dressy tops and shorts because it was SO hot in the ballroom. Guests took their beers outside to smoke and he would take them away and even people who were just smoking he would glare them down making many uncomfortable. His servers kept taking guests full drinks off of tables during the night. He ended up in several of our wedding pictures (he was NOT invited to the party). We were promised security at the door so people who were downtown and not invited wouldn't come in, there was NO security. When I (the bride) went to confront him about what he said to my bartenders he felt the need to argue with me when we paid him 2,000 dollars to rent out his place. Please, please, please NEVER risk your big day in the hands of this place. He and his wife were extremely rude and unorganized.

Two items were accidentally packed with our things, but were returned. When we returned them and to get the deposit more items were added to the list that we never saw or used. I learned a lot of new things and was able to teach my 7 year old a few things as well. I took a bunch of photos-wish I could post them all. I would definitely go back on my own, take some more time exploring. Make sure to ride the carousel! Parking was great. It was affordable, and not too busy. Stroller accessible.

We visited the Patee House, but the museum turned off all lights on us well before closing, (20+…read moreminutes before closing) and left us in a very dangerous circumstance on an upper floor in pitch black darkness. They were very well aware we were there in the museum, we spoke to them at the 30 minute and 20 minute mark when they told us they would be closing in 30, then 20 minutes and cheerfully responded that was no problem and we would ensure we were done and headed out on time. But they had zero regard for safety or patron enjoyment or experience. It is a beautiful museum but certainly do not get there within a few hours of closing. My children were scared and left having not enjoyed or learned about the experience as intended.
