Once you look at the prices for an annual membership here (which I think is currently $35) it seems crazy that anyone would pay for a gym membership anywhere else! In the last three months I've taken a couple of different classes. I started with the crazy sounding cycleates, which was half pilates and half spin class. Turns out, I'm more into the pilates half of that equation so I've been taking pilates classes ever since. The instructor plays great music, the people are super friendly, and they provide everything you need as far as mats, weights, etc. I'm a bit of a germophobe, so I bring my own mat. The great thing is that classes are so reasonably priced! You can try out any class if you just want to stop in - I think prices for a single class range from $2 to $8, but you can find out detailed info about drop in prices on the Grapevine website. They have been super flexible with me about trying different levels and figuring out which class works best for me without charging me any extra. I'm a total cheapskate about paying for exercise classes and this is finally an option that is in my budget and doesn't make me feel like I'm being robbed blind. Is it a community center? Yes. Does it have the fancy amenities you would find at one of the chain gyms? No. So if you like working out in luxe surroundings, you probably won't be thrilled. But I'm not really too concerned with anything other than getting off my lazy ass and doing a workout that I enjoy, so this has been perfect for me!

I enjoyed how friendly the staff was in doing so. When I did join the lady that took our info and photo was very pleasant. Pretty good size place and more than a few things to offer. I enjoy the in door track the most. Have not tried the weights located down stairs, they are always being used at the time I come. I've only been here a few times and I can appreciate that it is family friendly. They are adult and child activities for those to sign up for classes. Which is a plus for me since I have two teenagers. The only thing I don't care for is when I am jogging in the indoor track parents allow their little ones to play ahead and not being watched. They get in the way of my work out. I don't know what the rules are up for this area but it would be nice for parents to keep an eye on their children running around when people as myself are trying to work out. So far so good. Ps. I understood that they will break ground for a indoor pool soon.

I attended a vision board workshop led by Destiny W. recently, and it was amazing! The workshop…read moreconsisted of a yoga series/flow, an opportunity to create a personal vision board, and then yoga nidra to complete the workshop. I will address each portion. Attendance: The workshop was well attended, but there was still space so I did not feel like I was too close to another person. I did not know other participants, but had met the woman leading the workshop (Destiny W). I felt welcomed into the space (so it was not weird if you showed up without a group of friends). Vision Board Workshop: I have never done a vision board before, and I am not a person who normally shares alot, so this was out of my comfort zone. I figured I would try it as a "new year, new focus situation." I am also not very creative/artsy. There was no pressure to share, but people could if they wanted. There were more than enough supplies (and there were cool supplies, too), so there was more than enough for the exceptionally creative and those who needed assistance in sorting their thoughts. Destiny (she led the workshop) walked around and chatted with each person but the conversations were not loud or intrusive so people could be present in the space and also focus on their own thoughts. Yoga Portion of the Workshop: I have practiced yoga before, and even at the old Samatone location (before it was purchased and relocated). I have not practiced in a session led by Destiny W. so that was new. I have also not practiced yoga in a couple of years (life got in the way), so I was not particularly flexible coming into this session. Destiny is a very thorough and calming presence in the studio. Some teachers talk too much, but she does not. There was enough direction to follow coherently, and the way that Destiny described yoga poses/steps made sense to me. It was not all explained in yoga words (some of which I do not know/understand), and there was time to actually do the pose (some teachers move quickly and I feel like I am sprinting to get from a down dog to a warrior). It was very obvious that she had given thought to which poses we were going to do, and in what order. This was not slapped together, and I appreciated that flow. Because this was a workshop, we completed certain yoga series/poses and then took a moment to respond to guided questions to help create our vision boards. There was enough time to do the pose, stop, and then write down a couple of words to help us when we got to the vision board portion. If we would not have done this part, I am not sure I would have been able to put a thought together coherently. The yoga definitely centered my thoughts to what I was supposed to be doing. The music was good. It was more animated during the vision board portion (which was good), and the background sound/music during yoga was neither too loud nor overpowering. I was still able to hear what was going on and also not hear the "extra" sounds of other people in the room. Yoga Nidra: Um, wow. I love yoga nidra. If you have not experienced this type of yoga, you are missing out. I think we might have done 5-10 minutes of yoga nidra at the end, but I also am unsure because I checked out for at least half of it. It was a very nice way to end the workshop. Studio space: The studio is very clean, bright/welcoming, and organized. It was easy to check in, sign the waiver, and find a space in the studio for my mat. There are more than enough cubbies/storage for bags, shoes, etc., and the facilities (bathrooms) are clean. The studio smells nice, or does not smell like a bunch of people sweat regularly in there or like feet. In between the workshop and the next class, the owner and Destiny were cleaning and making sure the room was ready for the next group. The studio owner (Rhonda, I think) was there and very nice/welcoming. Some studios have a clique vibe, but this place does not. There was a bit of everyone in this studio, so it is an inclusive place. That is nice. I would return for regular yoga, or for more workshops.

I recently came to Blue Feather for an Aerial Yoga + Play class with a few friends. Aerial yoga has been everywhere lately, so I was glad to finally experience it here. The class size was small (~12 spots), which I think is perfect--any larger, and it would've been hard to see the instructor or fully engage in the movements. About 75% of the class was guided yoga using the aerial fabric almost like a sling for support (lots of Warrior II, chair pose, backbends, etc.), with the last 15-20 minutes reserved for "tricks." The time split was a little surprising, but I understand the need to warm up before advancing into more complex movements. Our instructor, Deidra, was confident and knowledgeable, offering options for both new and advanced students where it made sense. That said, I had mixed feelings about the structure. The class was advertised as beginner-friendly, but was filled with her students from moderate / advanced classes, seemingly working toward credit/practice hours. This meant Deidra often modeled progressions for them, focusing her attention at the front of the class rather than circulating to guide newer students in real time. Thankfully, a few more experienced participants helped by modeling positions, which was a big plus. My only other nick was the playlist--which bounced between Mumford & Sons to Gracie Abrams, with the occasional mainstream tracks, which just wasn't my vibe. Overall though, I loved the class and really appreciated Deidra's skill and passion. While not exactly "beginner," it was a fun and challenging introduction to aerial yoga, and I'd definitely return.

It will show you all the different types of classes, as well as prices, and you can book the classes online. I booked the "beginner" class last week - the aerial technique. I arrived about 10 minutes early and was shown where to grab and a yoga mat and was able to pick the "hammock" (I do not know the technical name for the ropes) I wanted to work with during class. The instructor was really nice and she walked us through each exercise. It was a lot of stretching - not really much off the mat, which was fine; I wasn't intending to be up in the air on my first time. Near the end we did get to flip upside down and hang for a little bit. I didn't find that comfortable so I didn't stay upside down for long. A lot of the other class memebers seemed to enjoy it, so maybe with time and practice I will like it one day as well. At the very end of class we got to get up in the hammock and lay down in it. The instructor turned off the lights so we just had the music to listen to and relax. It felt like we were hanging there a good ten minutes. Very relaxing. The studio is off Seventh Street in the Oak Cliff area. There is construction across the street, but I was able to find parking on Davis in a parking garage. When you walk into the studio there is a shop in the front with all kinds of trinkets, stones, incense, clothes. Cute stuff! I bought the package for 3 classes for $45 so my next class will be the aerial yoga. I'm very much looking forward to it!

When I arrived they were finishing up a dance class (that looked great)! The yoga class was a nice refresher since I haven't indulged in a while. My only complaint is that the sound bath was extremely loud that it made it hard to meditate and my thoughts kept focusing on the sound. A more quieter approach would've been better, for me, at least. I would return to check out their dance classes and see what those have to offer.

The leadership is working very hard to ensure Covid-19 guidelines are being followed. I'm meeting great yogis that are so welcoming as well (amongst all our sweating and burning of calories)! I have taken classes with Deb, Jenny, and Wendy and have loved all 3 instructors. Their workouts have definitely been so great and I signed up for a package of classes! Highly recommend and has helped me stay positive during this challenging time‍
