I was there for a days conference so we also used a meeting room. The coffee machine played music as your coffee was made, a nice touch. There was a little faff getting the laptop connected to the screen but once connected all was good. Nice break out area. The bar staff were quick and efficient with plenty of staff working not just behind the bar but on the floor as they are still operating table service. I might have gone 5 stars except for my experience with breakfast the following morning. As part of our package we were able to use our meeting space for breakfast. I was under time pressure and was reassured breakfast would be with us shortly, I heard this for an hour and as I left they arrived with breakfast Other than that I liked the hotel, it's location is great and the staff were good. I will definitely use again.

Comfortable and welcoming, reasonable drinks prices, rear patio with pool table and friendly bar staff make for a good combination at this great pub. Their regular DJ Adam Deafout is one of the few remaining vinyl-only DJs and plays a great selection of classic 60s, indie, alternative and lots more. There's a great little dance floor and a late license at the weekend. They often have live bands playing and despite a fairly basic set up, the sound is really good. The only drawback is not many people know about it yet! This is a lovely pub with great potential and everyone needs to get down there & get involved! For this reason I've stepped in to help with bookings for bands and promoters so hopefully it's about to get a lot busier ;)

Breakfast was great, service was excellent and very prompt. Coffee was good too. At £16.95, its the most expensive I have eaten in Birmingham - but this does come with access to the pastries and cereals too - so its still expensive though, compared to others locally. Breakfast consists of eggs, (I had 2 perfectly poached ones), 2 bacon, a flat mushroom, half a tomato, black pudding, (not great - a bit crumbly) and a tiny sausage. Its a shame about the sausage - it should have been bigger or another should have been added to the breakfast. Would I go back? Possibly. There is some great competition in Birmingham

This gives a comfortable and pleasant ambience. The food was excellent. Roast duck and lamb, with appropriate trimmings were excellent - perfectly cooked (5 stars). Parsnip and chestnut soup was divine (5). The Christmans pudding tart was also excellent and a slightly different take on the usual Christmas pudding. We had outstanding local cask ales in excellent condition, as well as cocktails.

My party and I came here for dinner in the Christmas season while in Shrewsbury. This was one of my favorite dinners in the whole of the Midlands, if not the supreme winner overall. Though on the pricier side, everything to the last detail was expertly crafted and delicious. Also, the service was lovely and inside the restaurant comfortable and festive- we enjoyed sitting next to a wood fire! It stayed relatively quiet for the duration of our meal as well, which was nice. We had three different entrees: I enjoyed the sirloin of steak and the other members of my party had the duck breast and the lamb. I tried their dishes and every single thing was marvelous. Unfortunately, we didn't get too many photos as we were all busy chowing down! My steak was cooked perfectly, tender, and flavorful. Each accompaniment also boasted such lovely qualities. For dessert I enjoyed the bread pudding which was absolutely delectable. If in the area you simply must try this lovely establishment for an exquisite dinner.

The breakfast buffet was pretty standard fare and the restaurant staff was great. Lunch at the conference was also good. Check in was very speedy and the staff were welcoming. We were located on the second floor and there are stairs or one lift. I would imagine that waiting for the lift may present difficulties during busy periods, but it was fine when we were there. The bathroom was modern and well equipped with bath and shower and separate shower attachment. Complimentary shower gel/bath gel and soap was provided (Arran Aromatics). The bedroom was very nicely fitted and the bed was comfortable and had additional pillows located in the wardrobe. There was a flat screen TV and a writing desk and an iPod docking station. There was also tea and coffee making facilities. The temperature control was great. We had a bed and breakfast rate of £38 per night for a double room (brililant value) and the breakfast was lovely. There was a choice of fresh fruit, fruit salad, juices, pastries, cereals and full English breakfast. All nicely cooked and hot. If you fancied a quick coffee, there is a Starbucks located in the main lobby where you can get a snack and a coffee. There is also the Pub where you can get pub food as well as The Verve Grill for dinners. They have some excellent value deals on meals. One of the offers in The Pub was their Friday night "Burger Me" deal where you could get a burger for £1. The hotel also has a fully equipped leisure centre with pool and use is included in the price. We had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

It's got a great location, smack dab in the middle of things, you're never too far from your hotel. It's charming and the rooms are much larger than I had anticipated-- big bathroom as well. Everything was very clean and tidy. Staff was warm and friendly and ready to help at a moment's notice. It is an older building, so you will encounter some sloping floors in places and there isn't any AC in the rooms which was slightly problematic during the heatwave we encountered. I didn't get under the blankets once to sleep and the one meager fan in the room was expected to do quite a bit of heavy lifting to try and keep things reasonable. Loved having a pub downstairs for coffee and libation anytime of the day. I'd definitely stay again, just hopefully during a cooler spell!

Nice wine list, my only complaint would be, around 30% of the staff were seriously grumpy, luckily though this was mostly outweighed by the other wonderful 70% THE LUNCH club sandwich and blackcurrant and soda (because this girl loves a drink that takes like medicine!) took a while, and was mostly lovely, but I have never seen so much mayonnaise in one place, it was how I met your mother erickson layered salad overkill!!
