Wow - on the meter of "skill," spending one Friday evening inside Little Theatre to watch a Shakespeare play at the North Terrace Campus, I rated the actors very high on their memory capabilities. How the heck do they remember all those lines? I mean, they're all written in Old English! No-one speaks like them today anymore! Well done, I praise thee.
I must admit I am one of those geeky English stereotypes who loves poetry... I think that reading and watching Shakespeare in action was one of the most awesome experiences I've ever had in my academic life, and I do get quite turned on by well-spoken actresses like Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow and Natalie Portman...No Hollywood actresses inside here, but I was nonetheless swept off my feet here by the local actors. I really enjoyed this play at the Little Theatre - Three years ago (2009), I was encouraged by my Shakespeare Tutor to buy a ticket to see 'Richard II' (based on King Richard II) for only $25 and see a play here. Thanks so much Professor! So I was actually the only one in the entire course that listened to her, and I did make the effort to go see this. And I'm so happy that I did it.
When I walked in, it's quite a tiny theatre indeed, but large enough to not be crowded. The theater is intimate, and the actors and actresses had BOOMING loud voices that did not even need a mic! They were super fast (but slow enough to release the power of each line) with remembering each and every single one of their lines, which really turned me on! By random chance, a very pretty British lady sat next to me throughout the play, and afterwards, we talked about her hometown London and how the England economy was doing nowadays.
Once I got home, I was so excited I grabbed my very heavy 'Complete Works of Shakespeare' book that my Mum bought in the early 1990s, and spent hours reading out loud plays that night! My dear Dad, who was a high school English teacher back in his prime days, even joined me and we both enjoyed ourselves! Seriously though, reading and speaking out Shakespeare is a totally different experience. You have to SAY OUT LOUD what he wrote, to fully appreciate how amazing and emotionally powerful Shakespeare was with his written words. If my next girlfriend enjoyed Shakespeare like I do, I might feel like 'Shakespeare in Love' (did you like how I did that? lol).
How awesome was this play! I might come back here on the 6 August to watch the next upcoming Shakespeare play (not released yet)! The last Any yelpers out there want to come watch it with me?... Contact me! I mean, what better way to spend a Saturday night than engross ourselves in some Shakespeare! I wonder if there are such theatres in London, because I'd love to watch a play there, and listen to the real British accents do it. I heard even the Royals (Princes) love watching Theatre plays. :) read more
