It still has a "crying" room for babies with carers, a gallery upstairs and a downstairs easily accessed for those who have trouble with stairs, or heights. The staff are friendly and there are the usual choc tops and lollies available, as well as brewed coffee. They also hire out the venue for fundraisers, and the Royal Flying Doctors et al fit beatifully into the atmosphere with their crusts-cut-off curried egg sandwiches and sparkling wine. The best place to sit? Front and centre upstairs. You get a little shelf to put your sustinance and no one to block your view. But don't take my seat!

I come here because: a) I live closeby…read moreb) I like the candy cart that rolls in at the start of the movie Yes, the candy cart! It makes me feel like I'm living in another era, when the studio lights are dimmed, trailers start rolling, and the candy guy (in uniform) pushes the cart in for people to walk down and select snacks. I love it! It's so cute, and I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere else in Adelaide. Then again, perhaps other cinemas do it but I only ever come here. The candy cart just adds so much character. Or it could just be me unleashing my inner 5 year old child. The studios are kept clean, and although it's not really a big cinema complex, it plays quite a lot of movies and holds many sessions. Come here on Tuesdays if you're like me and don't see the point of paying twice as much on any other day. Have a pre-movie meal at one of the many selections on The Parade. I should warn you though, sometimes the trailers go for half an hour, sometimes ten minutes. It's weird and unpredictable - but kick back, relax and enjoy!

There is nothing quite like being outdoors sitting in a beanbag, with blanket and a glass of wine. It is just so relaxing and a great opportunity for a family outing! Openair Cinemas are not all about movies though, they also have DJ's and musicians playing during the day. I love that they are using the space in this way! It is almost like it's own little festival. This year we were fortunate enough to be in the Star Class area to see the cult classic Grease! This was a super cool sing-a-long screening with all the words subtitled in cartoon graphics. I think I was laughing more than what I was singing. What a fun idea. So, what is Star Class you say? Well, you get treated like a VIP in the Star Class area! There is a reserved area right at the front and you are offered glass of wine, bean bag, and fluffy blanket to keep you warm. Oh wait for it... if you want a few more drinks for the night there is wait service! All you have to do is put your hand up and a waiter will help you with your request. That is my idea of VIP service. If only there was a massage option as well? The other great thing about Openair Cinema is that you can bring in your own picnic! I love that they invite you to bring in some food. I know lots of people work on budgets, so this is a great option if you want to feed the kids and friends. I was so excited about this; I packed a basket full of cheese, dips, chips, veggies and fruit. I actually made a platter. It was great! The one thing to remember is to dress warm for this event. As the set up is right near the shore, there are some winds at night that are a little chilly. I suggest keeping an eye on the weather and dress comfortably. Otherwise, it is a great night and I look forward to go there again!

Thought the location by the beach was amazing especially seeing as the cinema is held outside. The set up was very "beachy" / "summery" with plenty of deck chairs to sit on. Plenty of drink choices to choose from and the Famous Ben & Jerry's ice cream. We arrived whilst their was a dj still playing and the atmosphere was alive with the thought that summer is on her way. The screen was a blow up screen. Almost like a jumping castle but with a screen so that the film could be projected onto it. It was very cool and exciting for the kids to watch it rise especially as it was accompanied by some music. All in all a great fun night out with the family on a warm summers night :)

Clusters of buildings have no right to be this pretty, man. It made the sky seem bluer somehow, that's how attractive it is. I'm getting dangerously close to poetry here (which would see my Man Card revoked) but you get the idea. The only thing that douches up the whole scene is the students. For the love of god kid pull up those pants. And faux-silk Fred Flintstone boxers? This is how assaults happen.

I…read morewent to my very first concert at this Venue (Portishead) when I was around 15 years old and have been to countless performances since. There is something about a building like this, its persona almost adds to your experience. There is so much care and detail in its architecture, typical of the Art Deco era. This building was built in 1928 and stands strong. Next time you go here, look up and notice the geometric shapes around the lighting on the ceiling and also on the walls. It's really beautiful! There are a range of booths and balcony seating around the sides. If you are able to get a spot on the balcony, you really do have a magnificent view. I love that the owners have really kept this building's old charm and have not changed the décor to a modern style. I fear if they do, it will loose its charm. The bar area here is not the biggest, but it's separated into three areas. A downstairs almost salon style bar, main bar in the middle and then a side bar with old leather booths. There is not the best selection of drinks on sale here. This is really something I always thought they could improve on. But, I guess we can't have everything. One thing here that has always confused me is where they sell merchandise. It's in a really small room near the entry. It always causes congestion and they cannot really stock a huge amount in there. The staff are ok here. But I think they have a lot to put up with when you are throwing regular big shows with a lot of drunk people half the time. One thing that has always got to me is that the security guards here are always rude. I mean, I can't think of any time I have come here and not been told to GTFO straight after a show. Almost every time around 10 minutes after a band finishes they start shoving people out the door. Even at performing arts shows when everything is really mellow. It's a weird thing. Not sure if the owners know this happens? But they should. It's one of the reasons I have not given this place 5 stars. Nonetheless, this is one of my favourite Venues in town to see large music concerts and performances. I will forever have memories of amazing bands and bouncing floorboards while jumping up and down to music. Yay!

The reason I'm so…read moreinterested in art isn't all that pretentious really - I just think it's a fun way to learn about other people. For me, visiting Tandanya is a great example of that. As an outsider to Indigenous culture, I don't immediately understand a lot of art made by Indigenous people. And even after I've done my research, there will always be subtexts and underlying complexities that I won't understand. I'm ok with not always 'getting it' though. The exhibitions here are as wide and varied as Indigenous culture and experience - there is no one way to sum it all up. The programming is varied - featuring local artists, artists from urban areas and rural areas all around Australia, young artists and old artists, well-known artists and little-known artists, artists using traditional techniques and artists using more experimental approaches. The galleries themselves are large and well-resourced - big beautiful rooms with wooden floors. As well as the gallery spaces, Tandanya is a general place for meeting and learning. They offer educational tours, for adult groups and student groups, a retail store that sells artworks, a professional performance space and they host community events. Set in a lovely leafy spot outside of the CBD (across from Rymill Park and on the corner of East Terrace/ Grenfell), it's a huge old building enclosing lovely spaces for exhibitions. Big and painted white with original fittings and wooden floors, the space itself is great for the varied exhibitions that come through its doors, all highlighting indigenous art and culture. Like Chloe said the shows are pretty varied - on my most recent visit I saw some exceptional photography by Ricky Maynard as well as cross stitched pieces on colonial Australia and some traditional paintings. Tandanya also runs programs and cross-cultural educational courses which I think most of growing up in SA have been a part of in high school. There's also a smallish gift shop up front (it's kind of easy to get lost and walk in there rather than the galleries first) which sells works of art and indigenous artifacts.

They recently installed an x-treme screen in Cinema 1 which claims to have bigger sound and better picture quality in more comfortable and spacious seats. Unfortunately you have to pay more to be in this cinema and if your movie is only playing in that one then you cop the fee.
