An overall incredible pancake house in the middle of a beautiful forest like park just outside of downtown Utrecht. My great friend and I were in Utrecht for a couple of days and decided to rent bikes and join the crowd and bike all around town. I had heard of this legendary pancake house in the woods and after a little bit of research realized it would make the perfect bike excursion for the two of us. So, we got all fitted and fixed up on our rental bikes and wearing NO helmets, started GPSing our way out of downtown, headed for the Theehuis Rhijnauwen. It wasn't too bad getting to the entrance to the forest, only a few close scrapes, but once we crossed over, we were biking in the open air with the most beautiful green spaces surrounding us. The rest of the ride was pretty fantastic. We saw friends biking in parallel sync, chatting away, and only wished that I was able to master my bicycle enough to do that too. Anyway, we arrived soon enough and found a spot to lock up our bikes. The place was hopping, but we got a table outside pretty easily. We were looking out on the greenest grassy field with two mini donkeys prancing around on a grassy knoll. The ONLY downside was that I had pre-ordered a tea service for the two of us, which was not great food-wise. I watched so many plates of big pancakes pass by longingly. Our tea service food was a lot of ok sweets and some salami, and then more sweets. Oof. On the other hand, there was no way I was going to let the disappointment of the food ruin the overall magic. Love this place! Everything is so good. It's all handmade and good quality. Any pancakes is a good choice! I got the hot chocolate and an apple pancake. Staff are friendly. Lots of seating indoors and outdoors. Really nice for breakfast, lunch, dinner or al three! In the evening people were playing card games before the dinner came. read more

This was a really interesting place. Everyone else that I was with seemed to rave about it, but I just wasn't sold. I had the ham and cheese pancake, which turned out to be incredibly salty. The dough was also rather flimsy (even though it is meant to be thin it seemed unsubstantial). The hot chocolate with whipped cream was quite nice. The atmosphere is eclectic and chaotic; this can be endearing but the yelling children get tiring after a while. This place is certainly an experience, and worth trying, but I won't be running back any time soon. Service is rather slow, but that might have been because we were in a big group and the place was packed (on a Sunday evening). read more

I searched a restaurant using yelp, really did not want to go to a fast food joint such as Mc or BK. I have a 5 year old and try to give him normal food as much as i can give him. It was already dark and the drive to the venue is in a dark forrest. Adventure here i come! The place was crowded, waiting line went from inside to outside. Great location but mediocre food. This place is great for family outings with kids. Lots of space, lots of green, some farm animals as well. Very beautiful during the summer! Lots of green areas around it to explore on foot or by bike. But the food is mediocre at best. Have some coffee better. Beware that the place is extremely busy when the weather is nice! Nice location next to a river. Plenty of places to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. Originally a pancake restaurant but now offers other dishes. I had a bacon and cheese pancake and it was good. The menu has a large selection of pancakes (they have the size of a large pizza). Good place if you like a nice meal at the countryside. read more

That's a really nice place to be on a sunny day! You can sit outside at one of several tables on the green terrace located directly at a small river. If you are going on a canoeing trip you should stop here. They have a large variety of pancakes - a typical dutch dish - including numerous special recipes I haven't seen anywhere else. read more

I love, love, love taking visitors here! We'd rent bikes for the day, have a nice ride through the downtown of Utrecht out to the edge of town. Watch for incredible views of the university buildings and before you know it, you start to see cows near the bike path. What an amazing bike ride. Just a km after you enter the forest, you'll see this big red building with a huge thatch roof. You've found it - get in there, order a cappuccino, and start deciding which pannekoeken to order from the massive menu. Sure it's crowded with kids and has a petting zoo on the side, but this place never ceases to amaze me. After lunch, take your bikes and get lost for a short ride in the country and hopefully find your way back to Utrecht to grab some beers and do dinner. read more

Perfect spot to eat a Dutch pancake during the summer.located next to a river you can watch people paddle by while you're enjoying your classic Dutch pancake with every topping you can possibly imagine. There is a large playground as well a pony, so the kids are sure to also have a great time. Usually I'm not impressed by service in the Netherlands but this place is different, truly excellent service, all of our servers were polite, checked up on us and made us feel welcome.
