My loved one was supposed to have a "safe discharge." She didn't get that. She was released without anyone being notified. Imagine having someone you care about "out there" in Virginia, but you have no idea where. If you care about someone, don't send them to this facility. It makes a difference in the attitude of the patient if they have family and friends involved in their daily schedule. It can get lonely at a nursing home. We made sure that photos from home and cheerful items were in the room. There are daily activities (arts and crafts, games) that patients can participate in. The meals are personalized for each patient (health issues, vegetarian or not, heart healthy, diabetes, etc). A shuttle is available to take patients to appointments. The doctor was nice and outgoing. He explained things in layman's terms and did a great job of making my friend feel included in medical decisions.

I was going to go to an Urgent Care but thought if I could get an appointment that same day or the next I should probably go see my PCP. I called the office as soon as they opened to see if I could get in and was told there had been a cancellation and I could be there in the next 2 hours. That was a big relief. When I got there I didn't have to wait too long to be called back. After he came in and I explained what was going on he was very dismissive and acted like I was wasting his time for being there. He was in the room less than 10 minutes total and basically told me to go home and take a vitamin and eat better. He looked at some lab results I had taken just 2 days prior because I had an annual checkup already scheduled for the next week. He said he didn't see anything wrong in my bloodwork either. Later that day the issue I had seen him for started to spread to other areas of my body and I ended up in the ER because of it. Also after reviewing all of my bloodwork results from the ones taken just 2 days prior there were some things that were showing that there really was a bigger problem going on. I have decided that I will not be using him as my PCP in the future. He has a lot of 5 star reviews and only 5 star reviews. But after reading through them even the other patients who pretty much reported the same behavior from him it showed 5 stars. There is definitely something off about that. There is no way a patient treated like we were wasting his time coming to him with our petty problems would leave a 5 star reviews. That just made me not trust him even more. No doctor only has 5 star reviews So, I will have to try and find a new doctor who will actually care about their patients and be respectful to them.

The design of the building is excellent and the staff tries to keep the residents engaged. Service declined due to staffing issues during Covid but things were returning to normal. The staff showed my mother love during her five years. After talking to others with elderly parents with memory issues, I feel like Pearls Of Life was the best place in Lynchburg for my mother. It's not cheap. Just a tip for anyone in any facility like this, don't expect your loved one's "things" to remain in their room. Between staff laundry and other residents, my mother's closet and drawers ended up half full of other folk's clothes. Furniture and pictures disappeared. But that should be expected. As I said, the staff was loving and did their best with my mother and all the other residents. The activities director is top-notch. The facilities director is a very caring caring person and has to deal with a lot of pressure from families, staff, the state, and his organization. If my mom had to have dementia, I'm glad I had a place like Pearls of Life for her to live out her final days.

Sometimes when going for a doctor's appointment can cause anxiety, so the greeting from the receptionist is important. My doctor left and became a hospitalists doctor. As of now, I am looking for a doctor. I can only say, I had the best care, no concerns or worries, my needs were met with utmost professionalism and satisfaction! Yesterday, I had an urgent medical issue occur that needed to be treated before the long weekend. I called mid afternoon, hoping for an appointment. He had an opening, and I was sitting his office 20 minutes later. I got the care I needed. Excellent doctor in a great office. I would highly recommend Dr Neal to anyone in Bedford needing a primary care physician.
