The parishioners are all friendly, Karen in the rectory is an incredibly kind and helpful person. Father Joe is such an incredibly great priest and very easy to talk to. His sermons are always so meaningful and he always adds a bit of natural humor, which makes everyone feel at ease and at peace. Thank you Father Joe for all that you do. Great church! I have been a member of this church for over 10 years and I love it here. It's the…read moreperfect fit for someone who identifies as "spiritual but not religious". If you're looking for connection to a loving community, you believe in a god, a goddess, many gods and goddesses, or no god at all, and you're inspired by liberal spirituality (you won't hear talk of hellfire and brimstone here) then you'll love it and fit right in at UUCA (as we call it for short). Sunday services begin at 10:30am and lasts an hour. There's a large parking lot in the back behind the building, and that's where the main entrance is. The people here are friendly and welcoming to newcomers which is nice because before I found this church back in 2008 I had been to others and the people were nice but seemed to keep outsiders at an arms length of distance. Wondering about attire? Come as you are! Some people wear suits and ties, and many other come in jeans and t-shirts. Whatever you're comfortable wearing. We sing hymns and Rev. Michelle Buhite delivers sermons on life and spirituality with a hopeful message. Youth programs and childcare is available for children of all ages during the service and children are always welcome to remain in the chapel! There are even "busy bags" with crayons and little things to keep the small ones entertained in the pews. After the service there's a "coffee hour" where members and newcomers can socialize casually and connect with one another. Everyone is encouraged to stay and be social. There are various programs during the week to offer opportunities to connect on a deeper level with fellow congregants. After all, connection is what keeps us all coming back year after year! My kids, who are now young adults, participated heavily as teens in the youth group where they forged lifelong relationships with other UU teens. They went on field trips and had sleepovers in the church and put together "Youth Sunday" services where the youth group lead one entire Sunday service a year. They have since gone off to college and are beginning their careers and look back fondly on their time in the youth group at UUCA. I did notice a poor review left by a former member who recently passed away just a few years ago :( I knew him and considered him a friend for many years. He was a troubled man who struggled with personal relationships and his relationship with the church was no different. Rest in peace, Arnie :(

I hoped and prayed my husband would find a church in the Buffalo area once we moved here and am so thankful God spoke to our hearts and said "This one." (Lol.) Don't be fooled by the location: Epic Church meets at a movie theater (I actually think that's awesome), but knows how to get down. If you love a strong message that's practical, filled with the Word of God, and has some humor and casual moments, this place is for you. Even if that's not your cup of tea, this place is still for you. Pastor Mark Rouse is a great preacher who doesn't spend two hours delivering a sermon (I love passionate pastors, but mama the Fruit of the Spirit leaves me when I'm hangry), but takes his time to break things down. Even though he spends 20-30 mins preaching -- which might not feel like a ton of time -- it's food for the soul that will nourish you beyond service. The majority of his sermons follow a series, and Epic provides attendees with notes you can collect, study, and go over. The sermons are also online for convenience. Another thing I love about Epic is the childcare. Unlike other churches I've been to, where kids might color and learn something about Noah and the Ark, there are lesson plans (yes, lesson plans) for the preschool and elementary age classes. (Kids are just too small in the nursery to care.) I serve on the kids' team and am constantly amazed at the thought and preparation that goes into the lessons each and every week. In addition to play time (coloring, etc.), children are leaning about Jesus, God's grace, and characters in the Bible in a fun and interactive way. Plus, there's always some craft to take home to parents. Epic Church also believes in community, both local and afar. They have outreach programs that include providing donations for nearby families in need, working with organizations (there are some great contacts to serve incoming refugees), and mission trips abroad. There are also small groups throughout the year (outreach is a focus area, for example) for your to meet new people who share similar interests. This is more than just an ordinary church that you say you attend on Sundays. It's a resource to strengthen your walk with God and challenges you to serve others. As I always say: don't talked about it, be about it -- and my how Epic does this. In case you can't tell, I really like it.

I realize this sounds like a commercial, but nobody from Epic Church has asked me to write a review or paid me to say this. I've waited a long time to write this review because I kept waiting for this "newlywed" feeling to leave, and it hasn't. I've never reviewed a church before, and I felt like if I was going to write one, I needed to be sure. I started attending Epic almost two years ago. I was drawn to the idea of church in a movie theater. In the time I've been going, we've since moved from the Dipson to the Regal. It seems a lot of people are curious about church in a movie theater because we outgrew the old place. Curious about what the service looks like before you come? They have video podcasts on their website. What you won't see in the podcasts, though, is the great modern worship that takes place before the service (music licensing laws, I'm sure) and how warm & friendly all the people are! It's very easy if you're new to figure out "how it all works." There's always a friendly face at the door, signs to direct you, and information tables along the way. You'll also find tables with free coffee and Paula's Donuts. If you have to check your kids into the children's area, that's straight back. Otherwise, the service is on your left & you can't miss that either because there is someone there by the door handing out programs as you enter. They make it very comfortable to "be new" at Epic! And really, if you have any questions, there are a lot of genuinely friendly volunteers waiting to assist you. The messages are biblical and relevant. The whole service is never longer than 60 minutes (they can't be because the theater needs the room for movies!). If you give them a chance, the people at Epic will become your family. A couple other things: The church is Free Methodist. They offer growth groups during the week in different parts of the area so you can connect with other people. There is no dress code; wear whatever makes you comfortable. Their offices are in Clarence Center if you want to talk to any of the staff during the week -- on Main Street next to Penny Lane Café. NOTE: My kids are too old to attend the children's services, but I hear kids all the time talk about how much they LOVE church! Epic has a staff member dedicated to the children's church, and she does a great job!

Pastors Al & Vivian Robinson's account of the miracle was absolutely amazing. I am so thankful that God allowed the electricity to stay on at Spirit of Truth to accommodate approximately 150 people to survive the storm and cold. May God continue to bless and sustain the Spirit of Truth. Pastors Al & Vivian Robinson are doing God's work during this austere and difficult times. P. S. You will meet great people that care about you and help you. Spirit of Truth has a number of different activities for all age levels. It is just an overall great place to come and worship. When, I first moved to Buffalo I didn't know anyone. I came across this church and have continued to go back. It has helped me get through some tough times.
