In addition to these core benefits, Kumon has had many other satellite or "meta" benefits. For instance, the passages my daughter read in Kumon higher level reading exposed her to many interesting subjects outside of academics. Regular practice of the Kumon method also helped her develop singleminded focus upon the task/subject at hand. The last "meta" benefit has been critical to her being able to handle the heightened pressures of high school at Debakey High School, which is one of the most acclaimed and competitive high schools in Houston. My daughter was fortunate to be one of the select few kumon students from across North America to be invited to the "Kumon North America Conference", which was not only a great honor for us, but also a wonderful experience - she got to meet and hear from peers and former Kumon students / graduates all of whom are now highly successful and well-rounded students or professionals. The best way to describe my 5 star rating for Education One, is to compare it with another place…read morewhere my son paid almost twice as much for SAT tutoring and his score went down at Varsity Tutors! We were skeptical that Education One would be better although you would think it might be less convenient because you have to drive there vs Varsity Tutors which is online. VT did not listen to us when we tried to get help in the reading and comprehension/vocab part of the SAT because my son was already at 720 in Math. Nyal allowed my son to dictate what he wanted to focus on based on his experience at Varsity Tutors. He gained 70 points in Math and 40 points in the Reading component for a total increase of 110 points. Conversely Varsity Tutors, for which we paid almost twice the money, we saw my son's Math go DOWN 10 points and No change in Reading to go from 1420 to 1410. So, when he went from that to 1520 for half the cost, 5 STARS for Education One!
