PR 1852 Cebu to Manila 5:55 AM Departure
This was a very short 80 minute flight, so Philippine Airlines (PAL) doesn't provide complimentary meals on board. For domestic routes, they usually give passengers small packs of cookies ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/chocovron-global-corp-san-pedro ). Or, they pass out these snacks instead. It's called Guisantes Espesyal, which a very simple mix of peas and mangoes.
The dried peas are aromatic and well seasoned, with a savory and toasty flavor combination. Slightly crispy and crunchy textures.
The dried mangoes bits remind me of the fruit nugget snacks Florida's Natural used to sell. It's very chewy and gummy, make sure you have toothpicks because these will get in between your teeth.
While this may seem like a strange fruit and veggie pairing, the sweetness from the mangoes and the saltiness from the peas make it a fairly balanced treat that reminds me of trail mix. Pretty good for a complimentary airplane snack!
Manufactured locally in Cebu. They are available at Kultura souvenir stores inside SM malls if you want to purchase some. A 20g bag is ₱299.00 or $5.19 USD.
