I have an AA, BA and just finished my Masters Project. The university is what you make of it. At least one paper or project is due a week and you have to respond to the forum posts a couple of times a week. There are deadlines because there has to be. It is not a diploma mill, you absolutely have to do the work and can fail. If you're not a self starter and able to make constant deadlines then you may have some problems. There are good mentors and a some who fall short but it is on you to do the work. I had mentors that were very involved with the students. I had some that were less involved, most were very involved and available. Exams are proctored online and they're very strict. If you use AI on a paper or project and you will absolutely fail. They scan every paper for it. Customer service is definitely something that they could improve on. As far as mentors making their own rules (like a minimum of 250 words in a forum post) it does happen and it does make things challenging. read more

I have to agree with the reviews about staff/receptionists being extremely rude especially for the BSN program. Allie in particular is outright rude and dismissive. She's always in a rush to get off the phone and will refer callers to the school's website even when I try to explain that I've read the requirements and just have follow-up questions. This Allie person does not seem to realize that prospective students have the option of applying somewhere else- like TCNJ- where staff are very friendly. If Allie is the face of the University, I worry about the future of the BSN program. If you want to ruin your day, just call Allie. read more

I was able to have a degree in a short time due to hard work and dedication cost effectively. When I called customer service for a problem with a technical issue? They were on it! They knew the information in and out! When I called customer service? I knew my problem would be solved insistently! Not just passed around and needing to explain myself to a dozen people. School like that shouldn't be allowed. I went to a real state university, first it was much, much cheaper, and students really learned. TESU doesn't have a teaching program in place, they just request assignments, a student spend so much time turning in assignments in and learn nothing. Don't trust their reviews on Google reviews can be removed or manipulated. They accept lots of credit transfer, up to 90 credits for a BA but you need to take 30 with them which will cost you a fortune, $900 + per credit plus books etc. They also use only part of your grant making you take a loan and try to get you enrolled next semester. Do your homework! Don't waste your $ and time. read more

I thought this was my only option with military credits, but luckily I was mistaken. Having attended in person and online university prior to this, I can reliably say this is extremely poor "education" and charged at around $400 a credit hour for you to self teach with a lot of non-value added busy work and a "mentor" to remotely grade your work who does nothing else. They say it's targeted to working adults, but then have policies like every assignment needs to be on a different day, even discussion forum replies, which makes no sense. Student support is non-existent; if you have any issues or questions, there is no accountability for mentors who make up their own rules that's don't reflect university policy, advisors who are difficult to get follow up from and some of the textbook selections are blatantly outdated and misogynistic to the point I filed a formal request for review for one of mine bc it was disturbing to have to read. I transferred to a local university to finish my bachelors out because this degree would hold no credibility and is frankly taking advantage of folks who have no other options. My transfer university is FAU, a much higher regarded institution and it costs me literally half per credit hour what TESU was charging, for better experience, education, and esteem. Their drop policy is you lose money day 1 of the semester, so you can't even drop a bad mentor or class without taking a huge loss on already extremely bloated tuition pricing. For something this expensive you'd think their website and interface would be better, too, but it's about as antiquated and clumsy as you can get. Just a money and busy work for paper degree mill and HR people know it, too. Waste of my time and money. Don't make the same mistake. Check your local real university first, you'll be shocked how veteran friendly they are and most have online programs for working adults, too if that's what you need. read more

I've taken several online classes here, two away from degree which is the only reason I'm still attending here. Large fees incurred for almost everything. I've had instructors that don't follow the grading rubric and one even said grading is subjective...? Trying to navigate different areas of the school online is an absolute nightmare! There are so many different websites and logins I need to access everything. Should not be that difficult. You can preview a course syllabus before registering, but you really don't have a solid idea of the expectations from the instructor until the course starts. But by that time if you decide to drop, you'll only get 75% of the tuition back. I don't think that's fair. My biggest complaint is the amount of homework!! It's absurd. I recently calculated more than 30 hours a week for a 100 level course! They're all like that. Can't imagine trying to take a full load, that's ridiculous. They also seem to have a large staff turnover. But I do appreciate peer tutors reaching out to see if you need help during the semester and course survey's at the end of each class. read more

I have have done a total of four semesters at Thomas Edison State University and I am thoroughly pleased. This is the perfect school for the self-learner who is extremely self-motivated. If you need someone to hold your hand or are weak academically, you should look elsewhere. Just a heads up, besides having a lot of reading to do each week, which is expected, there are quite a bit of written assignments due as well. My assumption is that the lack of class room time to prove your knowledge in front of a professor has been replaced with a lot of written assignments. At one point I was writing about four to eight pages per class per week. Saying that, the courses are not easy. I feel like online courses are more difficult because of the difference in how you prove your knowledge. For traditional classes there are quite a few tests that determine your grade, for online learning you are graded by class-forum interactions, midterm, final, a lot of written assignments, and possibly a ten plus page final report in some classes. I am in my last semester and am glad I chose Thomas Edison State University. Besides great classes and professors, they accept CLEPs and PLAs. Taking and passing CLEP tests helped shave years off of obtaining my undergraduate degree. I am currently applying for a graduate program in Southern California. I have read negative reviews about the staff at the school, however that was not my experience at all. Every question I had was answered in a timely manner. Also, if you are specific and thorough in asking questions instead of assuming an answer, you will save yourself heart ache. Said all that to say, this a great school that will help you finish your degree. If finishing your degree is all that you care about and you are driven, this may be the school for you. read more

I am enrolled in an online nursing degree program with this school. This semester one of my professors disappeared for approximately 6 weeks. That's right, there was no professor at all interacting with the students. Nursing leadership at the school did absolutely nothing to address it. We were simply without a professor. The professor in my other class does not know how to utilize the Moodle learning program, and as a result, she frequently incorrectly grades students, accusing them of submitting work after the deadline. This has happened multiple times. Nursing leadership does not monitor their professors at all and the students pay the price for it. The tuition is too high for this poor quality of education. This will be my last semester here as I am transferring to another school. I can get a higher quality education at another institution that provides professors that actually seem motivated to teach and engage students. This school is a waste of time and money. Please consider another school that will value its' students and take the task of educating nurses seriously. read more

Quick overview: Professors - their level of interaction can vary however overall, I would say most are good or excellent instructors. You can certainly tell which professors are passionate about the subject matter and are genuinely interested in helping students succeed. (Quick shout out to the BEST Social Psychology Professor there, Dr. Sarah Bielek) Course content - it can be very robust, depending on the course and professor. There are quite a bit of written assignments and on-line discussions. Cost - it's fair considering how much other accredited universities charge. Staff overall - most people in each department are very helpful and friendly. Potential students - This school is a good choice for on-line learning. It does require a commitment of time. If you fall behind, most professors will work with you while you play catch-up. Life happens and sometimes, we all need a little flexibility. read more

This school is a total rip off. They will charge "fees" for every little thing. I was hit with a $150 "late" fee for signing up for a class beyond the registration period, which mind you is only 4 days long. I have spoken to every one possible and they won't budge on it. I could see if maybe I signed up for the class after it already started. Getting charged a late fee a few weeks before the class starts is absurd. They don't mention the "late" fee when you are signing up "late" either, they just hit you with it and assume you can afford to pay it. Horrible ethics in this school. A few years ago I paid for the Comprehensive Tuition plan then couldn't attend bc of things going on at work. 6k and no refund. Now I'm going and using financial aid and every semester I get a letter from the bursar saying how I haven't paid. The first semester it happened I was negotiating dropping classes and just paying the difference, then around midterms they tell me the financial aid will catch up to the amount. Now I have a letter saying I received financial aid I didn't earn. Is every single semester some kind of drama with them? Once I'm done with my current classes I'm done with this school and I'll finish my degree somewhere else. read more

I am glad to have found Thomas Edison State University. I work full-time and was able to earn my BS in Technical Studies. I have earned military education credits and additional credits from community college that were both accepted. I am glad to have found a school that accepts and appreciates the hard work of our military personnel. I have learned a lot during my time here at TESU and would recommend to anyone looking to further their education by earning their Bachelors Degree. Classes were easy to access and the instructors were always there to assist in anything I needed. The exams were taken through a proctored service and they had individuals who were dedicated and professional. Ive been going to this university on and off for a few years now and as the years pass, theyve gotten more and more difficult to deal with. The biggest issue that I have been having with them lately, besides the general attitudes of their mentors and staff, is that they want everyone to conform to their scheduling. I go to this school and take classes online for CONVENIENCE and what they want is for their students to take back to back classes all year long without any break in between. I like to have a month break in between semesters and Im paying for the education so I dont see why this cant be accommodated anymore. There was never an issue until this year. Now suddenly if you dont conform to their schedule, they hold your school loan. Mine is currently 7 weeks late. The semester is over. If youre a working student, generally you need some of that money to help with bills. It can be hard to get by without it and thats the position that Im currently in. I was expecting this money nearly two months ago and they keep giving me the run around about it. At the end of the day, its my money and they have no right to hold it. read more
