It's the kind of place where you want to grab that special someone, escape, wander up and down the street, hold their hand, and think about how lucky you are to have found them and to have found yourselves together in this mystical mountain town. When it comes to Main Street, there are all kinds of art galleries. Big, little, photos, fine art; they're all worth visiting. I've been to J GO a few times, and it continues to be one of my favorite galleries on Main. Each gallery has its own identity and personality, but J GO certainly stands apart from the rest. While each experience is different depending on the artists on display, the time of year, and your own mood and disposition, I can comfortably say there isn't another gallery like it. While others cover more traditional fine art, photography, or sculptures, J GO takes a more modern slant. It's not so modern that there are strange things crawling out of walls or floor displays that make you question whether they're art or a janitor's half-done project, but definitely more modern in lines, feel, mood and color. One of my favorite bits of the city entire is in J GO--it's the WonderBox. This small alcove in the basement is an old silver vault, and now houses some of the more curious and funky pieces of art. From clowns to dolls or small delightful works of art, it's a little bit silly, a lot though-provoking, and in a town where you can only look at so many photos of trees or barns, it's definitely memorable. To find J GO, look on the east side of the street, and when you see the sign, head downstairs. You can't really see in from the street, so take that leap and head down the stairs. There's also an entrance on the back side (Swede Alley, I think?) and that one is a little less trafficked but more visible and accessible. No matter the season, it's never a bad time to hit up Main Street. Escape, saunter, leave your cares behind, and find the whimsy of the WonderBox and the entire J GO Gallery.

I bought some pictures here a while ago and they have a wonderful ability to stay fresh looking even after many years. Mangelsen's photos are a great way to add timeless color to any room. They are expensive though, expect to spend a few thousand dollars for some of the larger ones. Smaller pictures are more reasonably priced.

So when I arrived the next day to Park City, our first stop was to Wild Spirits so that I could see this so called photo. Jared was right... Gary Crandall's photography is pretty spectacular. I didn't fall in love with the photo that J wanted me to see as much as a few others, but they were just a bit out of my price range. This is the perfect gallery if you are decorating a mountain home or want the feel of a lodge. The photos are spectacular and some of them took my breath away. In particular, there were photos of bears, foxes, and elk as well as scenic photos of aspen trees, mountains, and colorful leaves during the change of season that caught my eye. From the instant you walk into their gallery, you feel at home and yet you're surrounded by such beauty, it takes your breath away. The art Tom has so skillfully curated is from gifted artists from all over the world, many of which have Tom to thank for their international notoriety. Whatever your artistic taste I'm sure Tom has something in his gallery which would be perfect on your wall -- whether it's whimsical, impressionistic, hyper-realistic, beautiful sculptures of playful foxes or intricate leather models of Japanese Emperors which take so long to build that they wear the artist fingers to the bone. (And he can dazzle you for hours about the story behind each artist!) You must take a peek and his gallery: it'll bring a smile to your face and awe to your soul. On a more personal note, I know for a fact that Tom and Carolyn's hearts are pure gold. Only someone with the purest heart would listen (and say yes!) to a girl who walks into their gallery and proposes a preposterous request: please hold a fundraising reception during Sundance weekend, oh, and it's just days away. (The next door neighbor charged $5,000 for a two hour nonprofit reception for the exact same time, and yet Thomas donated his space out of the goodness of his heart. Thank you, thank you, Tom for your open heart and welcoming spirit, thank you for your hospitality and kindness. If you're in Park City please pay him a visit, you won't regret it. Thomas Anthony and Carolyn are as good as it gets and the Thomas Anthony Gallery is truly creative magic.
