Saved me money by trying to see if he could fix it by using my same parts vs replacing. (Little did he know the parts are relatively new, a year old. I knew they wouldn't need replacement- it was a seal issue. I just wanted to see what he would say- test his character.) Well- he passed with flying colors. Sooo honest!!! sean came out to my house literally the day my friend texted him, which was wonderful, and highly appreciated. while fixing my sink, he broke my pipe under my sink and told me he'd be out monday to fix it (it connects my washer so now i have no washer) i am a single mother and have TONS of laundry. i've reached out multiple times, to no response, my friend has reached out to no response. i get he was doing a favor by coming out and helping, but in the mean time completely broke my pipe and refuses to fix it for 3 weeks now. read more

I do not recommend Thompson plumbing. I purchased a home in Fairmount and Thompson provided prompt service with the removal of the sink so that the painters could complete their work. The commode was removed by others and a new floor was installed. The new floor installation required significant additional work to be performed by Thompson so that the toilet could be seated properly to the flange as well as the sink attached to the wall. There continues to be an issue with that toilet. I called Vince yesterday discussing this issue - and despite spending $1200+ of Work on two different occasions, since it was past his 30 days... we were told that we had to pay since this issue was different than the previous issues. When a toilet gets reinstalled, you would expect that the plumber may make additional recommendations so that issues do not continue such as when the toilet tank was re-installed, new rubber gaskets and/or washers should have been installed as well. Had I known that these should have been installed /replaced I would have recommended so that it could've probably been done st minimal cost while under the same service call for the installation of the toilet. This would prevent leaking and a future service call fee. When I called Vince to ask what can be done so that we don't have to call every other month, his response was "you're always going to have some sort of problem..." I realize that parts wear out. However, when an installation or re-installation is done, proper methods should be performed. A test of all parts should be performed so that if in fact a part looks faulty, it should be replaced/repaired at that time of service rather than require another service call. Vince responded to the email saying that it was not in his scope of the job nor was it authorized to make the other repairs and it is considered a new job. Unfortunately I am looking for a new plumber if anyone has any recommendations. read more

Last week I had a little water in my basement. Looking for the culprit, it became apparent that it was my hot water heater. I called Thompson's and they were here in less then 30 mins. They examined the situation, determined I was right, and John stayed to remove my old heater and prepare for the new one while Vince went to get the new heater. By working together, they were in and out in about 2.5 hours with their quality work being completed. Plumbing issues, and the damage they can cause, mean you need quick action. Having Thompson's as a reliable company to help address such issue so close by, is greatly appreciated. read more

After trying several plumbers that already had reviews on Yelp and getting nowhere, I asked a neighbor for a recommendation and he referred me immediately to Thompson Plumbing & Heating. We had a couple of plumbing issues that needed to be addressed urgently following a home inspection and Thompson Plumbing came through quickly, efficiently and affordably! We were impressed that they were able to come out the next morning after we called. John came and was very professional and friendly. He quickly was able to address and resolve the issues that we had with our plumbing; including resolving a low pressure kitchen sink, reconnecting the head to the stopper in the bathroom sink and determining the source of a leak in the basement. I definitely recommend Thompson Plumbing & Heating - we were very pleased with the service they provided and the degree to which they were thorough with their assessments and their work. read more

Will never use them again! Both Vince and John were very nice and showed up when they were scheduled to. The work seems to be done well, my complaint, they took forever to do a simple job. He would not give me an estimate to install a water filter but said it wouldn't take long. Even though they charge $125 an hour I decided to use them because of their A+ rating and I like to support neighborhood businesses. After all how long should it take for a "master" plumber to finish a simple straightforward job. Well now I know why they don't give estimates .... It took him 4 hrs to finish the job. I was also charged a ridiculous amount for the parts he used. All in all I feel totally taken advantage of. read more

Used Thompson to troubleshoot a heating issue with my radiator as well as inspect the old boiler in the basement in my house in Fairmount. Vince the owner answered each time I called and was very helpful over the phone. John showed up on time and was extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and personable. He was able to fix my radiator and provide an honest assessment of my heating system. He's got 30 years of experience, is very knowledgeable, and took time to explain the entire heating system to me. Both guys get an A in customer service, & the job cost exactly as what was quoted over the phone. I highly recommend them, and will definitely use them in the future. read more

We hired Thompson to remove 4 toilets, install 4 new ones, and remove and install a new kitchen faucet. The quality of the work completed was fine. But they overcharged by at least $400.00. They were at the house from 8:30 until around 1:45, yet I was charged for 9 hours of work. When I called to speak to the owner he said they were there until 4, when I told him that just wasn't true he then changed his story and said they had 2 guys working on the job, not just 1. Then he further modified his story to say the travel time to discard the old toilets is why the bill was so high. The reason I know he was lying is because we have an alarm system that shows when doors are open and shut. The front door was shut that day at 1:45 that day and wasn't opened again until my wife and I got home from work. Been using these Thompson since I bought a home in Fairmount nearly 20 years ago. They're professional and responsive. During the Pope's visit my toilet sprang a leak and John rode over on his bicycle, tools in his back pack, and fixed it! Try and find someone in the building trades that will go to those lengths for a customer. They may not be the absolute cheapest, but the prices are fair and they're good at what they do. It's a plus that I feel they are trustworthy and have no worries about having them in my home. read more

I have been using Thompson Plumbling & Heating Company as long as I have lived in Fairmount as well as my parents did many years ago working with Vince's father. I have never had difficulty or problem with Vince or John. In addition to the excellent quality and professional work they do, Vince and John are always gentlemen arriving and departing my home, always cleaning up the work area. Recently, I had a heating problem (no heat) and called the office, realizing there probably were other customers experiencing the same issue. Vince and John showed a sense of urgency and concern for me and came to my home to check the problem. They did this even though they had scheduled work for the day. The problem was corrected the same day at NO CHARGE TO ME. Even if I did not live in Fairmount or moved away, I will always use Thompson Plumbing and Heating. When I moved into Fairmont in Philly in 1996 I asked a friend for a recommendation for a plumber and it was Thompson Plumbing & Heating on Brandwiine. I had some them do some work over the past 16 years but will use them no more because of the last job. The charge was $420.00 for (1) replacing the thermocouple in the water heater..and (2) installation of a bath tub faucet. This was a labor charge only. The tub faucet stopped working within40 days. Thompson came out and was not able to fix the leak and blamed the problem on the tub faucet. We had another plumber fix the leak for less than $50.00 and it has not leaked in the past two years. I had forgotten about this travesty until I came across the Thompson invoice for the $420.00. I don't feel like Thompson stood behind their work in my case and blamed the problem on a tub faucet. Plus, even if the work had been correct, the charge seems really high. read more
