LaSalle's fashion program strongest part would have to be their pattern drafting, sewing and illustration. The sewing and pattern drafting instructor is highly educated on patter drafting having apprenticed with a German patter drafter who wrote 3 books on the subject of how to make tailored garments. I believe LaSalle is the only school in Vancouver who teaches its students how to make your own blocks from scratch. Other school starts you up with pre made blocks. I came from a sewing background and still my skills in sewing improved dramatically. Other students, who had never sewn before starting the course, did amazingly well for beginners. I was blown away by our illustration instructor. She will make you improve whatever skill you have in drawing 100 times if you work hard every day. It will pay off. The campus location is great. It is right by all the downtown sky trains and the space of the school is quite nice. It's not new but the working area is big. While I was going there, all the teachers were excellent and since it's still a small school you will get a lot of one on one with all of the instructors. The school always encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities. Even though it is up to the student we are constantly hearing about fashion shows and participating at Vancouver Fashion Week. I have recently graduated in 2011 and secured a post graduate work permit. Currently, I got an interview with Cirque Du Soliel, which has always been my dream. I think LaSalle's reputation helped me get this interview because it is a logo that is recognized internationally. If I could give this place a negative star, I would!…read more I toured the culinary school with my wife Janet, as I am potentially interested in becoming a master chef (seriously, though). We arrived and we were surrounded by nerds. Oh gee, you shoulda seen the suicidal emo guy! I mean, the crowd made me feel cool and I'm just a geeky old guy. From the start you could tell that the institution was not prepared to accommodate such a large group of prospective students. The relatively boring sugar-shaping demonstration was cramped and hardly visible unless you were in the front row. There were truffles for tasting that literally made us gag. I've never tried chocolate that tasted so much like tropical vomit. The facilities were unwelcoming and did not seem as clean as competing institutions that we also toured. The introductory presentation was insincere and failed to cover crucial information such as tuition costs and teaching methodology (very little emphasis on hands-on learning). We got the vibe that the institution was a corporate machine with an intricate marketing scheme rather than a school with a true dedication to teaching culinary arts. On a more positive note, for those looking to gain experience in the business and management side of the restaurant industry, AI seems to have a strong program and good career connections(?). However, the most horrifying aspect of our tour was when I noticed that the school serves bluefin tuna on their student-run restaurant menu!!! (For your information, this is a critically endangered species -- it's like serving roasted Panda bear.) I commented to the staff about my concern over their consumption of threatened wildlife, and I was laughed at. The teachers that the school hired were assigned to teach a class they did not know anything about. I am not blaming the instructor I am blaming the system. The school hired an instructor who only knew Animation in 3D studio max. In that class, we were supposed to learn to 3D model in that program. The instructor explains to us that they told him last minute what he will be teaching at his new job. It wasn't just this 1 instructor that was hired for something they have no knowledge about. There were other teachers who were in the same situation. There are more Negative stories I have about this school but I have decided not to tell it cuz this post is already long enough. Please ! don't go to this school!

I found that they offer many courses and one of them is Social Media and Web Marketing, a growing industry nowadays. I send out my name and email on the website's online form. Roman Ansari, Director of Admissions emailed me, and my journey began. Roman is one of the best people I met; he is passionate about his job and has the heart to help people pursue their dreams. I am one of them. He guided me to explore my career options with great patience and proficient knowledge. He went above and beyond his duties and even encouraged me to join a women's group that has been so helpful. The finance department applied for my student loan. All the finance staff & others were very kind, patient and friendly and guided me to the step by step process. I was surprised and grateful to get the student loan and a huge grant. My course started in March 2021. This has been a life-changing opportunity for me. I could never ask for a better teacher than Ms Angie Janzen. She has been so patient and very helpful to her students. Ms Janzen makes it easy for us to absorb the daily lessons, be very emphatic, and listen to her students. This course has been extremely fun for me, and I am excited to finish this course and start a career in Digital Marketing. I am beyond thrilled that not only my expectation was met it surpassed my expectations. I am glad to take this career change with this, and I am excited to see what is in store for me. The teachers are amazing and the smaller class size facilitates a sense of community that can't be found in larger universities. The facilities are a bit lacking, as library license doesn't include some of the more prominent online resources that you might need. Still, it's a great school to get a diploma or degree at. Sadly, the IT department and admin in general is a hit and miss. It's always frustrating dealing with them. Sometimes you have to wonder how this level of incompetence exists. You ask one question they answer something totally different. You brought up and issue and the solution provided is totally unrelated.

Teachers get rotated for their schedule every week; sometimes some teachers forget to record your mark into the system, or not accountable enough to keep up with grades and such. I asked for a help on English grammar (for English course), some teachers just want to keep chatting instead of helping students. There are distraction in the environment where you study with other students talking to teachers, it's SO hard to focus on studying. Not only the distractions, teachers don't seem professional enough to do their jobs. If you're independent to study on your own it's okay, otherwise I DON'T recommend. I met a few nice teachers, but they don't know how to listen to student's concerns aside from giving false hope. Besides I had to track progress by keep reminding the teachers and the coordinator always give excuses about lack of student for class-based courses. Like seriously, some teachers at VCC are so lazy and unprofessional.
