The food was just not good. They have this huge menu and don't do any of it well. My husband and I both had specials. His salad was just fried popcorn chicken with iceberg lettuce Anna dressing. My wrap was iceberg lettuce with some pieces of chicken and some cheddar cheese shreds. Very expensive for very little and no taste. Noticed that other people were ordering all of the fried foods so maybe that's what is good here. read more

First, it is a small town and they are having problems getting people to work, so when that happens, be grateful you got a waiter or waitress. They are trying so hard. The one owner is fighting a disease, they are under stress and hardly have any time to themselves. Knefla soup is delicious, as is the Mexican food. The turkey dinner is fantastic. It's nice they serve breakfast all day and the hash browns are cooked just right. Chris, one of the cooks, is EXCELLENT and she has a wonderful attitude. Deanna is a great waitress. It has plenty of seating, is clean, prices are not bad. My husband is VERY PICKEY and he loves their baked chicken. The pizza is expensive but so worth it, especially the taco. Even their chicken burger is very tasty. Please remember, you are in a small town with limited staff and they are doing the best they can. In NO WAY do they have a "we don't really care attitude". I eat there every week, am a cook myself as was my mom and grandma and I support them 100%. Beats the newest place to eat that opened and is cheaper! read more

Ordered the spicy chicken melt with curly fries, it was a grilled chicken breast on wheat toast. It was okay. Ordered my 2.5year old pop corn chicken with macaroni and cheese. Something like craft mac n cheese, it was cool on top and hot on bottom. The service is friendly but scarce, did not offer drink refills even on water, my husband's plate and mine were brought out then a few min later my daughters. The bathrooms are interesting, 2 stalls no doors, however there is a lock on the entry door. We will eat there again for sure, this was our first visit. - they also had pies, a list of cookies, and I think they had ice cream and a salad bar. read more

This is probably the worst place I've ever been in. Service is not good. At all. The food is warmed up in a microwave. I believe the only reason this place is still in business is because there is nowhere else in town to have breakfast. I would rather have a sandwich from the gas station. This is by far the worst restaurant I've ever ate at in my entire life. I've spoken to so many people about this and most of them say the owners are aware their food sucks and they don't care! No matter what I order, the food is overcooked and tastes like toxic chemicals. I feel like I have the stomach flu from hell every time I've had their food. Small town cafe comes with small town service. This place took forever to be waited on but once order went in my food came reasonably fast. I ordered the hamburger steak and mashed potatoes. When the food arrived it didn't come with brown gravy which they said it's served without so I asked for a side of it. The mashed potatoes were really good as it wasn't boxed but fresh. The hamburger steak was cooked just right. If you're in the mood to eat decent food but aren't worried too much about service than I'd give this place a try. In a nutshell, food was good but service was horrible. We walked in and didn't see a soul until finally someone wandered out of the kitchen. We wanted to sit in a booth so we chose the least dirty one as they all had dishes and crumbs etc. Waitress forgot the husband's drink and had to be reminded when the food came out. After she brought the drink she literally disappeared. We waited for the check for a long time before the husband went to inquire about it. Turns out our waitress had "left the building" since her shift was over. read more

The prices are reasonable, and the food isn't terrible for a cafe in a small town, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. I'm used to getting my order screwed up in some way here or the food being delivered cold (always after a long wait). The waitstaff are not terribly friendly, either. They're not rude, but they're not outgoing. Also, as you can expect in a small town, it is not particularly vegetarian friendly. read more

Grew up in Cavalier, and Thompsons used to be the best place for pizza and some of their Mexican food. We travel there a couple times a year and I'm totally miffed at what the heck happened to this place. Lack of service #1. Secondly, the food takes forever. When you finally get it, it's just like the owners (same as always) just dont care anymore. Last dish I ordered was the rib special at a slow lunch "rush." They were so tough and obviously reheated in the microwave from a prior time they tried to sling it. Tough as hell. When the server finally came to check I said, I cannot even attempt to eat this. Well, what do you want instead, he said. I'm like, well everyone was finished with their "meals" so I said, just deep fry me some chicken strips or something. So the chicken came on a side plate and I ate them along with my mow cold hashbrowns. I guess the only safe thing here is pizza, hopefully. read more
