The staff were excellent and kindly accommodated an early check-in, which made a big difference after a tiring journey. The hotel itself could benefit from a light refurbishment in parts, but this is more than balanced out by its many strengths. The location is fantastic, and the top-floor bar offers great views and a relaxing atmosphere. Access to the Lagoon pool and gym is another strong plus. Breakfast was a highlight. The staff were professional and attentive, and the selection of Norwegian food had that distinct, fresh quality that simply feels good--both in taste and overall experience. With views stretching toward the Royal Palace and even glimpses of the fjord, the stay felt special and memorable. Overall, a very enjoyable stay with excellent service and amenities. The train line from the airport ran directly to the Nationaltheatret station. From there, it was a reasonably easy 8-minute walk. The hotel itself was not necessarily what I would call elegant, but it was quite nice nonetheless. The lobby was spacious, warm and welcoming with an interesting fire place structure in the middle. There was a convenience store entrance off the Lobby for good measure. The service at the front desk was polite and efficient. Our check-in and check-out experiences were trouble-free and the time or two that we had questions involved very pleasant interactions with prompt answers. Our room was on the 9th floor affording a nice urban view. I was a little afraid of the size when I booked. Our only experiences to date with Scandinavian hotels in Sweden and Denmark were cramped rooms for very high prices. But we were pleasantly relieved with the discovery that our room was more comparable to American-sized rooms than Northern European rooms. We had plenty of space to feel relaxed. The decor was pleasant and the room was in good shape. The Wi-fi signal was strong and did not fail us at any point during our 5-night stay. The bathroom was clean with all fixtures working as expected. The room was equipped with a refrigerator which allowed us to keep leftovers, minimizing our food costs. The coffee provided was instant, but with the fast water heater that was OK. The hallways were neat and well-kept. We did not take advantage of the pool, but we noticed that other patrons clearly enjoyed that amenity. One of the notable things was the restaurant. I highly recommend booking a room rate that includes breakfast. The restaurant itself had quite a large seating capacity, so even at its busiest we could still find seating. The buffet was fabulous, rivaling many that I've seen in Asia. The hot selections were plentiful with eggs, potatoes, meats, pancakes and more. The bread selection was quite good and the yogurts, fruit, cheeses and greens were all you would want. The local specialty brown cheese was worth trying and became a favorite. The coffee was good as well. The cost was well worth what we received. It helped immensely that we visited in February allowing for us to take advantage of off-season pricing. But this still worked well for us because the weather was not overly cold and most attractions were still open. Our pre-paid rate with breakfast was around $656 including taxes for five nights. At about $131 per night, you really can't beat the value. The fact that we could walk or easily ride everywhere we needed to go made this hotel the perfect choice as an anchor point for our visit to the wonderful city of Oslo.

There is a pretty awesome breakfast buffet every morning which filled us up for the day. It actually spoiled us for the rest of our trip, because we got so used to eating their breakfast buffet. Honestly, the only thing that was difficult was the notoriously tiny Norwegian bathroom. If you shower, the whole place gets wet, including the toilet. I think you could brush your teeth over the sink while sitting on the toilet at the same time. It took some getting used to, but you'll manage somehow!

This hotel is very central to so much of what there is to do and see in Oslo. It's a 4 minute walk to the train station, the Tram is at the corner, and the ferries are about a 15 minute walk. There are lots of shops and restaurants in the area, one very tasty restaurant is almost right across the street. The breakfast that comes with the stay is an incredible spread for a budget hotel. They have such a wide selection of foods, nothing runs out, and the staff is there promptly to clear away empty plates so there is always a place to sit. It gets very busy, as everyone seems to be excited to eat here. However there are the downsides. For 2 nights during the week, they had group parties that went until late in the evening with loud music in the courtyard. If you're a light sleeper, there is no way you would be able to sleep. The bathroom is the tiniest thing ever. The shower was super small and there was a bit of black in the grouting. But the flooring was heated, a nice perk! They only offered one soap - a multi purpose Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Soap - really don't know how that is possible? They also don't stock washcloths for showers or washing your face. I liked the place, even with the small room, showers and missing toiletries - but the loud music until after midnight was a bit too much for me.

My kids enjoyed spending some time relaxing with those games at the end of the day. Kids also received a coupon each at check in that was redeemable for a free kid's mocktail at the bar. Super cute. If you are traveling with kids, there are 2 playgrounds close by! One is just around the corner still in the same plaza, adjacent to the train station. The Hotel Folketeateret is located only a few minutes from the Central Station, where most people arrive when they come from the airport. The entrance is located within a mini-mall where you can find all sorts of restaurants, delicatessen stores, hairdressers etc. Upon entering the hotel, I always feel right at home, as it is cozy and warm in a typical Scandinavian fashion. Plus, the receptionists here are always very friendly and on top of that super-efficient; I've never waited longer than a minute to check in or check out. The hotel rooms that I've stayed in are not luxurious, but they are comfortable and they offer all the conveniences that a business traveller might look for: master switches for the light by the bed, plenty of sockets by the bed, free and fast wifi etc. As I mentioned before, the breakfast for me is the highlight here and I really urge you to get up early and take full advantage of it. The buffet is so big with so many yummy choices that I usually end up not needing to eat until the evening...seriously, I stuff myself with hearty rye bread, eggs, sausages, smoothies and other goodies. Another nice amenity here at the hotel is that in addition to the free breakfast, they also have free coffee in the lobby and they also offer a free light dinner...now this is what I call convenient!

They nickel and dime you so if you stay here for a long time the charges might add up. They were at least quite friendly on the phone. The check out process was not fast. The staff that was there on our check out day didn't seem to know what she's doing with the guests in front of us. It took her a long time before she could check us out. Decor: It's hip and modern! The elevators are tiny but at least they're there! Our double room was big enough for a bed, a desk, a chair, a TV. We didn't have a closet though, just hooks to hang our clothes. The bathroom was clean and modern, but the lack of shower door caused splashes on the floor (and they won't replace your floor towel for free!) Overall, for the price, it wasn't a bad stay. I'm not sure if all hotels in Oslo are like that. It's just really strange how they nickel and dime you for housekeeping like that.

The exhaust fan and hand wash dispenser in the bathroom was broken and the latter was a problem in a small space. I asked for a backyard facing room as recommended here to reduce noise. However, I still could hear loud music on the weekend.

Every parking in the city is paid, and the going rate is $30 US per day. Free wifi and $1 for coffee. No TV in the room. But overall it was a pretty decent stay.

This place is more like a hostel, basic without shampoo, shower gel, etc.; hot shower; room was a bit cold (not well heated); location is at the edge of the city center, a bit far, but close to National Theatre and Royal Palace; does have lots of coffee houses/cafes, restaurants and shops nearby; noisy at night on the street with trollies and people. Staff seemed cold, they help you, but didn't look happy. The room is spacious with a simple kitchen. The building still maintains its original floor and stairways, nice! They also have a luggage storage room for you to leave your luggages which is convenient. For the price I paid, I feel it's not a good value.
