    Pool closed Labor Day Weekend.

This used to be my favorite place and at one point I left gift cards (for the bar and grill) for the crew. The last few times that we've been its been problem after problem. Labor Day Weekend 2022. We arrived and the gate was wide open (just like last time). No one manning the gate. We called from the phone at the gate and we were told "I'm cleaning a cabin. Just go find a spot and I'll find you." She did stop by to tell us "move your truck off the grass." There is no grass. Just sprinklers that spray (river water) onto the picnic table and motorhome. I say this because the sprinklers were still running when the water in the entire park was shut off. The entire holiday weekend there was one person working. On Sunday we were told that the pool was closed due to the chemical's being unbalanced and the water in the entire park was out. "No idea when it will be fixed." Yes NO RUNNING WATER!!! What one earth are we paying for? We took showers down at the state park. We return after dinner to our site to find our ice chest in the road and empty. A tent on our site had been ransacked. A notice was left on our door to our motorhome to boil the water. I went to the office to report the theft and again no one was there. The group in the site closest to the gate, advised me that golf carts had been speeding through, had been coming and going all night and a white car was speeding (30 mph) throughout the campground. I used the phone to contact the ranger however she didn't answer. I called the manager Laura as her number was listed on the notice. Of course her voicemail was full. I texted her of the incident including that this was unacceptable. The ranger stopped by our site, again not very helpful other than to say she was with the plumber and "no one had been into the campground. Everyone else is watching their sites." Really? Laura called and advised me to call the police and said she would check camera's and file an incident. This place is getting pretty bad, and clearly security is not a priority. The campground is so run down. The water goes out every time we are there due to some excuse they've made up and then give us a boil water notice. The grass is dead as dead gets from not watering at all. Handle at pool is broken out and an hole in the concrete. And the mosquitos are insane. They are good at blowing smoke about all the changes they are working on making. Yet it seems to not change 3 and only get worse in the last 3 years. Membership is a joke with thousand trails.

This is one of our favorite Thousand Trails Camping Resorts because of the phenomenal staff and beautiful serene views. The campground has 115 large sites with grass. There is no need to worry about finding a sewer site because every site provides full utilities. Some sites, like ours, have a view of the Columbia River. The playground is currently in the plans to be replaced. The swimming pool and hot tub are clean and inviting. Actually, this park is well taken care of by all the employees. They are always out trimming bushes, cleaning sites, etc. There is a great walking trail along the Columbia that leads to a really nice park. The park has a huge playground for the kids. Other amenities include clubhouse, laundry facility, tennis court, and volley ball net. The crescent bar area is great for boating, fishing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. I would also like to send a special note of appreciation to Marci. She is a member of the amazing staff and has assisted my family during our stays. We always feel so welcomed and will continue to recommend this resort to everyone. Again thank you :)

Nice view to the Columbia river. Clean facilities and nice staff. Just get prepared because it gets pretty windy at night.

Our little cabin was a delight, especially since we were coming from California without camping gear. It was perfect for the three of us and we even had a semi-private bathroom right outside our door. If we were tent or RV camping, this would also be my first choice versus camping at The Gorge. The sites were grassy, everything was super clean, nice family vibe, helpful staff, felt very safe, and even some fun activities like crafting and tie-dyeing shirts. One of the best features of staying here is the shuttle service to The Gorge. You can enjoy the show, then come back to a well-run, charming campground that makes everything better!

The kitchen staff whip up amazing breakfast, lunches, and dinners. It's our 3rd stay here, and we were smart enough to bring a small inflatable pool to keep cool in the peak heat. I appreciate the shade that the fence line spots provide, but the grass spots are worth having too because it's all so well kept. The landscaping team just excels at keeping these grounds so beautiful. There was a huge inflatable water slide setup this year, which looked like a blast. I know RVs of any size are welcome, and they have electrical hookups. Cheers to anyone able to stay here.

The second time I did it as a three night hike because it was after October 15th and I still didn't have a permit. Since that time, the permit season has been extended to October 30th. Either way, I suggest that hiking in the fall is the prettiest time due to the larch trees colors. Both times we started at the Stuart Lake trailhead (recommended due to reduced overall elevation gain) and ended at the Snow Lake trailhead. Now at the risk of offending someone I will say that hiking through the Enchantments in one day is like watching a porn movie on fast forward. You miss most of the scenery. My suggestion is to either get a permit, or hike outside of season, preferably in the fall, but stay at least two nights. Given that the hike up Aasgard Pass has an elevation gain of 1900 feet in about a mile, I can attest that it can be quite dangerous when raining. On the East side there will be mud & rock slides and in our case we had to duck out of the way of several large, (18 or so inch diameter) Rocks that came bouncing down the boulders with unpredictable direction at a very high rate of speed. Risks early in the season are snow slides and avalanches, so be very aware of the conditions when you are there. All that said, anyone who does not give this a five and tell you that it's absolutely one of the most beautiful hikes you'll ever take on must know something I don't, and I've hiked the Himalayas. Remember that goats are dangerous. Pee on rocks, not soil because the goats will dig it up for the salt. Try not to let a goat see you peeing or it will run towards you. Try fishing in the lakes; the trout are great for dinner up there. You should also know that when coming down toward the Snow Lake trailhead there are a large number of switchbacks and when you see the cars just down the hill, it will likely be another hour before you get there, and if you did it as a day hike, your feet may not be happy when you finally arrive. If you are a hiker, you must find a way to get this one done before you hang up your boots.

Upon arrival I did have my tickets but I did not purchase a camping pass. I assumed (yup), that i would be able to go to Family Parking for free like i did back in 2023. First of all the employees back then were much more chill. I think it was before the "Live Nation" takeover...possibly? Anyway, I was told I had to purchase a Tent Camping spot even though i didn't have a tent. So I plopped $300+ for that. I actually got a relatively good spot near "The Pivot". The next time I come, I am definitely going to look into other camping arrangements.

I just know myself and know that is a recipe for misery. I have seen general camping described as "district 9" and have read that premier & terraces are a worthwhile upgrade. Now on to my review of the gold area: Huge shout out to Owen-- who supervises this area. He helped us get settled and came to check on us all weekend. One thing all camp areas have in common is that they are a big open field. In Gold, the downside is that you are about a 15 minute walk to the food and other vendors, which are situated near the other campsites. The huge UP SIDE is that you have a separate arrival gate, a separated entrance gate, and a separated exit gate from the venue. You are also at most a 5 minute walk from the entrance to the venue. This is great at the end of the night. The spots are big enough that most people in an RV also had a sun shade and even a couple of tents near their RV. Highly recommend you bring your own shade because there is none. Porta potties were pumped at least once per day and are conveniently spread out throughout the camping area. There are also plumbed toilets and a shower trailer. Showers are free and are cleaned once a day. We found them to be "clean enough". Power is only available for some shows and no other hook-ups are available. The website says honey bucket will pump your waste and we did see them circulating around but we never connected with them. But, no big deal to find a free dump-site later. Anyway, I was nervous when I realized power is provided by a series of cables running to a generator shared by many RV's. But, Owen kept the generators generating all weekend and the power stayed on. So, blessedly, did our AC. There really isn't much to do in the area between shows. So, bring some way to entertain yourself. I have heard you can walk down to the river but it's a bit of a hike. We walked over and did a wine tasting one day at the winery. They advertise a pizza truck, which we were looking forward to, but didn't actually seem to exist. We made friends w/ our neighbors-- and someone gave us a ride to the river one day-- which was wonderful. If you can figure this out-- definitely bring floatation devices/paddleboards/etc to enhance your river experience. Rattle snake cove is about 2.5 miles away. There is also a nice state park across the vantage bridge. BUT you have to go back through security to get back into the venue which might not be worth it depending on the show. Overall a great experience & I would definitely RV camp, with AC (haha) here again.

We had some problems trying to find directions out to the place, so here's directions from my personal experience. Directions: we stayed in Quincy the night before, so we took the 28 to Whitetail Road. Made a left on Whitetail from the 28, then a right on road 9 NW. follow road 9 NW and it turns into Ancient Lakes Rd NW. At the end of the road, you'll find the west parking lot. I am not sure how to get to the east parking lot. There's a lot of parking here, when we got there by 11 am, it was really crowded but we still found a spot. (When you are on Whitetail Rd, it might look like you are just driving through farms, but buried in there, there's Ancient Lakes!) There is a port-o-potty at the trail head on the west side. Trail head: is well marked, we hiked in about 2 miles and got to the lakes and the rolling grass area where you can set up tent where ever. There are some man made fire rings scattered through out the area. Hiking: After we picked a spot and set up camp, we hiked a loop around the lakes. We started towards the waterfall. It was a scramble up the side of the waterfall, like a class 4 rock scramble lol. Loose rocks, loose footing. From there, we went pass that waterfall and onto the backside where the east parking lot is. Which there's another waterfall there, and there's also camp spots there too. We looped around, it wasn't too hard. We estimated this part of the hike to be around 6 miles round trip back to our tents. Lots of people camping, we counted about 50 tents, then you estimate about 2/per tent, so like 100 people were out here! But you still are able to find solitude. We came across 3 snakes, an owl, and a marmot. Easy trek, not very hilly at all. Good for first time backpackers. The area can be explored in a day.
