This is a great local independent bookstore that is super friendly and welcoming. I love that they take the time to have staff reviews of books and make great recommendations. The store seems very family friendly with a great kids books selection and what looks like a lot of reading and book events. Finally, have always had great service. I'm obsessed with this bookstore!! They have an amazing selection, super friendly/helpful staff, and are very kid-friendly. We often go for story time (most Saturdays at 10am) and they are so wonderful and engaging with our rambunctious kiddos. Super cozy space with tons of locally-made products too. Prices are what you'd expect for books, and I'm happy to give my money to a locally owned business vs. ordering on the internet! They always have fun events going on (book clubs, author signings, etc.) and have great recommendations if you're not sure what you're looking for. read more

A new (to me) bookstore! Stopped after a hot chocolate run (highly recommend) to browse around this cute cozy store. They had a great selection of books and super nice helpful staff. It was just everything a little bookstore should be. Happy to add it to the rotation. Three Avenues Bookstore has allowed me to cancel my subscription to a large online megaretailer whose name I will omit from this review. What a relief. The store has a solid generalist selection of books, and has a rotating selection of new offerings that are making waves. My own tastes tend to run a bit left-field of the store, but they are happy to order what I need and prompt in following up. But this is somewhat beside the point I really want to make, because I don't expect them to be stocked with 18th century apocryphal Peruvian literature. What I mean to say is that the folks at Three Avenues are great neighbors. They understand the needs of the neighborhood and the people in it. The store frequently serves as a community space for parents and kids (and boasts an extensive children's section) in addition to readings, musical events, and more. I haven't been to these myself, and frankly don't intend to, but the bookstore understands its function as a third space. The staff are incredibly kind. They know my name, and know the books I like - despite my visiting only a few times a month and often just to duck in and get out of the house for a second. That kind of service is rare and impressive, and stores like Three Avenues deserve to be celebrated for their contributions to the community. Three Avenues is so adorable and has a great selection. Prices are on par with Barnes and Noble but you get to support a small business that in turn supports its community. Hidden gem: the queer candle co. candles are amazing. read more

We were walking around the neighborhood and found this cute bookshop! They have a great variety of books and also have a bookclub you can sign up for. Specifically, it seems like there are readings on Saturday's for children which is perfect for the neighborhood. I am excited to sign-up for bookclub sometime in the future! The person who greeted us at the front was very nice. The books overall seemed reasonably priced and they have a cute wall with surprise books you can pick! read more

I had 15 minutes to kill between meetings and wandered into Three Avenues Bookshop. I'm so glad I did. Three Avenues has all the magic and charm held inside an independent bookstore. The books really are the star of the show, and they are organized neatly by genre. The handwritten notes on certain books by employees was sweet, and actually sold me a book I plan on starting this weekend. There was a cozy kids corner brimming with children's books. I picked up a Sandra Boynton book for my 7 month old. We already have a few by hers that he loves, so I'm excited to add to the collection. The employees working were really sweet and friendly. Did not like the selection and especially the very biased displays. More worried about pushing propaganda than providing various viewpoints. Some of the books highlighted on display were incredibly antisemitic. I read a few pages of the books and I was appalled they would promote these. The progressives leftists have really lost the plot. Anti racist towards everyone while actively antisemitic. Great job guys! read more

I happened to be in the neighborhood today and saw this place. I cannot believe that it's been open since November 2022 and does not have a raving review yet! It's a very bright and welcoming space with cute nooks for trying out a new book or two. There's a great selection and tons of little knick knacks (which is why bookstores are my personal Achilles heel). The store merchandise is adorable too, and there's even a coffee bar! This is quite possibly the most cozy wonderful bookstore in all of Chicago. It not only has such a nice lovely vibe with free drinks (!) but they have such a great selection of books and ACTUALLY comfortable chairs with a nice staff who lets you read in peace. I absolutely loved this bookstore. I'm pretty sure it's my favorite in Chicago and probably anywhere--I hope more people come check it out! There are so many amazing things about it, it's hard to even list them all. The selection of books is fantastic. I saw so many books I've loved and about a dozen more I wanted to start reading immediately. There are several cozy reading chairs, as well as many comfy spots for kids. They have a mini fridge stocked with free sparkling water and juice (so thoughtful). The bathroom and the whole place is really clean and nice. The decor is great, lots of very healthy looking cute plants. Of course there's cute merch and decor and little gifts too. I was in there forever and it was such a nice spot. Support your local independent neighborhood brick & mortar bookshop! Love walking in and exploring the well curated shelves on the adult side. Kids love the inviting children's nook on the other side of the shop. The selection of children books is not necessarily your typical classic children's books but as a mom of a neurodivergent child of color, I appreciate seeing books for children with different sensitivities and books representing minorities. Also, they support local causes and partner with school related activities. Glad they are in the neighborhood. read more

Selection is very limited. Very one sided as well. If you are looking for a variety of opinions about topics go someplace else. I would caution Jews from going there as I was getting glaring stares wearing my star of David necklace. I asked one of the employees a few questions about their displays and she went to the manager who was about to "talk" to us. Not sure about what. Luckily we were just walking out. I was very uncomfortable there. It's a private institution and they can decide what they want to put out for people to read. But I will not go back there. read more
