So here's the thing about Chicago...its meant for those who walk...because if you don't get out of your car and just stroll through the neighborhood, then you wouldn't find little gems like AlleyCat Comics. So my daughter and I actually went to Andersonville for a thrift shop, but since we had so much time we decided to stroll up the street and low and behold we stumbled upon AlleyCat comics. The store is cute and well organized with all kinds of comics from your usual to your lesser found and your anime. They also have games and paint and other little cute comic related items. This is definitely a must stop for anyone who loves comic books and just wants a spot they can explore in joy!

Actual alley to lead you into comic book heaven.

Huge fan of Graham comics and decided to venture off to find a another place which led me to finding AlleyCat. Loveeee the atmosphere here. They don't mind you grabbing a book or two and sitting on the floor and reading. The staff isnt afraid to nerd out with you either. Ask them a question and prepare for nerdism :) The inventory they have is huge. Everything is neat and in order and easy to find. My only wish is that they had more Black Panther stuff but no biggie. I'll just travel to Wakanda myself. Anyway, on hot days, they let up garage door and turn the place into a convertible. Pretty dope for an escape to say the least.

Comic book stores don't get much cleaner and well-organized than this. They aren't as large as a lot of other comic book stores in Chicago. They don't have a lot of the "toys" you'll see jammed into nooks and crannies in other places. I'm not into comic books as much as the people I was with, so I'll let others review the place in depth.

He may not sell your mainstream books in the 100s but he's learned a good array of tricks to get good sales. For one, he is practically located on the grounds of Loyola University. Right under their rooms in the heart of Chicago close to the look offering spectacular views. What did they say were the top 3 factors to operating a business? Location. Location. Location. Terry understands his customers and demographics. In this little shop you will find a wide selection catering to your popular comics of superhero titles, your classic reads like Sandman, your newer classic reads like Saga, independent comics like Umbrella Academy, and so forth and so on. He is very meticulous on what he orders and is a great source of information about the industry and genre. No wonder he has many loyal customers. New comics, comes in every Wednesday, are well labeled so you know what is new. On a rack he has an assortment of collected trade paperbacks. Along the top of the walls, I found this interesting, are original art pages. I wish they were closer down so I could a better look of them. Looking for a good read? Here's where to go.

There's a little of something for everyone here. I usually see the same staff faces and they're always helpful and welcoming. If you're a collector at any level, definitely stop by. That's mostly because the prices are terrible--worse than eBay and Facebook marketplace scalpers. Case in point: there's a pokemon illustrated set that just came out. It's $17. You can still get lucky at retailers and it'll be restocked. Here, just 2 days after launch, they're selling for $50. Just nuts. I guess it's clear this isn't a "card shop," it's a scalpers storefront. Don't go here looking for Lorcana--guessing the margins are too low. Except for their singles, which they sell for $2-4....crazy pricing for Lorcana. Anyways, i won't be back. Will have to continue my search for a card shop that's ethical and somewhat reasonable. --------- Edit in response to business reply: 1) i agree conversation could go a long way. But when your pricing on a brand new Pokémon set (which doesn't have a set market yet) is already 3x MSRP, what productive conversation can happen? It's just a straight up gouge. I'm not naive to expect to get everything at MSRP, but i think 3x markup 2 days post launch is unreasonable. 2) i did ask about Lorcana. I was told you "don't carry much" and "didn't have any right now." 3) you seem to be implying that you're aware prices are high and can then be negotiated lower. If that's how you want to do it that's your prerogative, just understand that's offputting for new customers. It's hard to want to establish a relationship and have a conversation when the first impression is being taken advantage of. And when your response to pricing questions is "well the hobby is thriving!" I don't think that's off base.
