The flea market has a very wide variety of items from antiques to tools to food to household supplies to blankets and vegetables and dog bones. Not much changes from year to year, but you end up wanting to keep going back for the tried and true favorites (we tend to pick up big jugs of Maple Syrup when we're there), and the special finds (on our last trip we bought a beer stein). The prices aren't always cheap -- the vendors who deal in antiques tend to know what their wares are worth, but most are willing to haggle. You have to pay to park -- I believe it's $5. You can also park across the street in someone's yard for $2 if you'd like to save a little a walk a smidge farther. We typically go the yard route simply because it's a little quicker to get in and out. Expect to spend 2 hours or so walking around if you want to see everything and bring the sun screen -- there isn't a lot of tree cover.

This was my favorite shop of the day on my little trek to Amish country. They had a little of…read moreeverything that the other shops had, and they had T-shirts that said "Smicksburg", just what we were looking for. I was also happy about the hot chocolate, as it turned out to be a very cold day. The woman at the counter was very sweet, and she made small talk with us as we shopped. We ended up bringing home some edible Amish goods, one of which was Amish popping corn that I made for some of my students. The pumpkin butter was also quite amazing. This is a must-stop if you are heading to Amish country and want some gifts to bring home.

We purchased our hardwood floors for our house from the Hardwood Mall and we couldn't be happier…read morewith that decision. We chose red oak and asked to allow as much character as possible since the floors would be in a log cabin and we hoped to get a lot of knots and holes since we weren't able to afford reclaimed wood. We also paid to have saw marks and contour sanding on the wood. The wood came with a ton of knots and wormholes and, after the Rubio oils were applied, we think they look a lot like reclaimed wood anyway. We were lucky and the guys from the Hardwood Mall agreed to install our floors for us and we were so glad we had them do it. They work with the wood everyday, they have installed floors for other people so knew what they were doing, and they were actually cheaper than our contractor was going to be to install cheaper floors. The customer service was great - it's a family owned place and the guys were always very friendly, quick to respond to communication, and helped us to choose the right mix of oils for the floors. Highly recommend.

I am mostly interested in less common vintage guns. Each time I have found outstanding deals on vintage firearms. Most recently a Stevens Crackshot, a The American Double Action in 44 Webley (small gun, huge bore and perfect grips), a Forehand and Wadsworsth 32 S&W (perfect grips) and a Winchester 250 lever action. With all of those great oddities, I didn't break the bank. These folks do business the right way and are also very nice. They have new guns and old guns. It is very much worth your while to stop in their store if you are a collector or are interested in new guns. I have got to tell you, I left their store with a smile on my face and an armful of awesome vintage firearms that I will spend years enjoying.
