When I first had an appointment with Jordan she was confused as to why I was taking gabapentin, even though she knew I had an anxiety disorder prior to meeting with me, which was an immediate red flag. She should be aware of this medication's treatment. Gabapentin is used to treat seizures, pain, AND anxiety. She seemed confused as to why I was taking it and immediately wanted to discontinue my use of it. It is a high dosage of gabapentin, BUT it works and I told her that before leading up to our second appointment. I wanted to make sure I was going to be getting it before I paid $125. She flat out refused! I told her that I had been taking this same dosage since 2015 and she still denied it! I also told her that it works well for me in cohesion with my anxiety treatment. She would NOT give me a reason as to why she didn't want me to keep taking it, which I thought was very unprofessional, but I know the real reason. Doctors, psychiatrists, and others who prescribe medication are deathly afraid of giving a high dosage or even a specific medication even if they damn well know it will work for the patient. This is wrong and must stop! This is the EXACT reason as to why she did not prescribe me medication that I have been on since 2015, and she is the only person that has denied me this particular medication. Why are they afraid? It's simple. If anything were to happen to the patient they would be held liable, but you cannot lump every patient into one category. People know, and ESPECIALLY prescriber's know that the same dosage cannot be given to everyone! That's treatment 101! Her job is to help and listen, not worry about whether the medication she is prescribing goes against what SHE thinks is right and what her own personal beliefs are, especially if the patient has been on it for almost SIX years, and if they are telling her that it works! Psychiatrists - in her case, nurse practitioner- think they know better than their patients perhaps because they simply know more, but what they forget, of course, is that while they may know more about mental illness, they DEFINITELY don't know more about any one person's experience of that illness, which patients encounter all the time.
