Owl bet you can leave this shop empty handed! Speaking of owls... there's a whole display case…read morededicated to these nocturnal birds of prey! As for myself, I purchased a desk set, magnifying glass and letter opener, carved with the most lovely owls! I also found some owl bookmarks, some jewelry, and a few other items. This shop used to house the old Wardley Theater and it was cool to see the projector set up amid vintage movie posters. It was heartwarming to know the owner cares so much about the historical aspect of the building and dedicated a corner of her store in its memory. My mom likes fruitcake and the owner had some for sale so I got one! In another section of the store there was a display of local foods: sauces, butters, salsas, honey, nuts, jellies and spices. They'd make great gifts! This shop had a bit of everything! The furniture was gorgeous and the prices were decent! The jewelry was unique and inexpensive. I left behind a cute owl pin that I might have to go back for! Also on consignment were some designer handbags, like Coach and Michael Kors. There were even some vintage clothes, classic kitchenware, nautical items, antique quilts and eclectic décor. We spent quite a bit of time browsing through this well appointed, organized store. The owner, Jane, has an eye for detail and merchandising. She's also very personable and helpful. I'd be sure to stop here whenever I'm in Callao! And after you've "shopped til you've dropped", the porch out front invites toto take a rest! And be sure to peek in the back of the store where you'll find the Chamber of Commerce office!

Jane is knowledgeable and engaging about her inventory. In addition to antique furniture, she…read morecarries some locally made (shelf-stable) food products and art works. This would be a great place to do your holiday shopping!

There is a nice gift shop that benefits the historic hotel/tavern. The food at lunch was a limited menu but the black bean soup and freshly made bread was fabulous and others in our group enjoyed the quiche. If you like historic places I definitely recommend this place.

The shop features household items, decor, quilts, knitted and woven items, made by local Virginian artisans. There are a few studios in the back where artists-in-residence can be found working on their crafts, and classes available (there was a beading class in session the day I was there.) The clerk was a volunteer, as I think is all the staff, and she was super nice and gave me lots of information about the shop and artists. I bought an adorable knit jellyfish ornament (pictured) even though I was originally planning on just looking. Then I went through to the cafe, also manned by volunteers, these from the culinary guild. They had soups, a salad option, a sandwich option, and some baked goods, mostly already prepared. I got the autumn chopped salad with spring mix, apples, avocado, bacon and a cheddar cheese dressing. It came with a choice of fresh baked bread and I picked a molasses cornbread variety that was AMAZING. The sandwich option, which I did not get, is also worth mentioning because it was a grilled cheese with BACON AND JAM and sounded incredible. My salad was delicious though and I needed some greens in me. The volunteers were all so nice and helpful. I love this place!

There are three signs out front: "Harmon House Shoppes"; "Grandmother's Store"; and "Inner Equinox". I don't know what you might gather from three signs, but as I walked up the steps of the old house in which this shop is located I figured Harmon House Shoppes was a collective, and that Grandmother's Store and Inner Equinox were both inside. I was right, but these shops aren't separate. All the merch is together. This means that the chowder mugs, "Feeling Crabby" travel cups, crystal fan pulls, salt water taffy, and plush monkeys captured by "Grandmother's Store" are shelved right alongside the jasmine massage oils, meditation CDs, tarot cards, evil eye bracelets, and incense sticks captured by "Inner Equinox". This also means I was able to pick up a cheesy Chesapeake Bay snowglobe and delicate blown glass Christmas ornament because I like to collect both on trips, and husband was able to pick up a white sage smudge stick because he likes to burn things.

Think of it as a new age metaphysical shop crossed with a quaint gift shop and you've got the Harmon House. The woman at the front desk, I did not get her name, is so sweet! She let us know about all of the classes and services they offer in addition to all of their neat gifts. Some of the things she mentioned were massages, reiki, and readings. I left with a gorgeous abalone shell ($11.99, such a steal!), a handmade magnet to remember my trip, and a few tumble stones. I couldn't be happier!
