They also have a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options which also covers their selection of milkshakes! It is always sad if you go to a burger place and your vegetarian friend only has one option while your vegan friends can't even enjoy the milkshake variations. They didn't ask how I want my burger so I had to trust the cook that it it will be served just how I like it and yes it did. It was still juicy and lightly pink in the middle. Not raw. The veggies and the patty tasted fresh. The bun was alright. The sunny side up egg almost perfect. The bacon could be crispier. Maybe a sprinkle of salt and white pepper would have bring out more flavor but I really can't complain. I also like to mention that the presentation of the burger was done with finesse. Especially if you consider I ordered with no sides. Kudos to the chef. SERVICE I rarely have been to a restaurant with that level of friendliness. Everyone is just very nice. I dig it. ATMOSPHERE Young and fresh just like their burgers. Well the burgers are a bit boring when compared to the interior of the restaurant. The restaurant is even split into two rooms with different designs. Very cool. RATING I have been here three times before. This time I wanted to take pictures and do a review. I never expected them to be so consistent. Especially when it comes to the service and quality. The inside: Rustic, quaint and all dark timber. Complete with US memorabilia and old signs, vintage license plates, old school fluorescent beer signs and advertising and an old gas pump. The food: Used to be better. Back in the days when this was one of the only burger places in town. Or, quite possibly I've just outgrown the frozen standard patty and am expecting a little bit more for a burger that sets you back between €8-12. To give you an example: They serve these standard sesame buns that you can get in bulk at discount retailers. My dad ordered their Sea Burger (or whatever it was called) and it was fish in a batter, a sad tomato, some lettuce and no sauce or extra seasoning. Yeah. Call that a dry burger - it was completely lacking any originality or love. I had their signature Road Stop Burger and they used to be more generous with the baked beans if I remember correctly. The patty must have shrunk over the years and it seemed lost in an oversized bun - the last remnant and witness of a better, more plentiful past. In general this burger gave the impression that it's lacking something - probably more generous toppings and some fresh, ground beef. And if that's too much to ask for - at least fix the toppings. So ... nothing that knocks your socks off. Don't get me wrong - I still kinda like this place. If only for their large Biergarten (which can be packed during sunny periods) and their unique atmosphere inside. So back to the burgers - I can't get rid of the impression that they've streamlined and downsized their food (in size and quality) to increase profitability and maximize profits - resulting in decreased quality. This is always a bad sign and prelude to 'I won't frequent this place anymore'. Same with the starter platter - onion rings, jalapeno poppers, chicken nuggets, tortilla chips - none of it seems home made. It's all frozen food, pretty bland, fried and served on a platter with a generic dip. Oh, that's so 90s. If you're looking for a more unique starter, try the pretty decent tortilla chicken BBQ bowl. The service: Is usually swift and friendly, however nothing that would set this place apart. The verdict / TL;DR: You can still enjoy a nice bottle of beer (they serve Miller - I guess it's what they consider American beer), or Snapple. All in a relaxed atmosphere and unique setting. If you're a biker, you'll meet lots of like minded people. Mind the evening rush though, this place gets packed. Food wise: I cannot recommend the burgers anymore, at least not if you're looking for quality food at a fair price. In that case: Don't put up with a nothingburger and head to one of the fine burger locations in nearby Düsseldorf.

In America, or Chicago at least, no one who's of legal drinking age and has any sort of respect for themselves goes to places like this. Bars like this are reserved for people who are freshly 21 and don't know any better, freshly divorced and looking to slum it, or for tourists who got got tricked into coming here. In this case, we were the Americans-in-Germany version of the latter. Our guide took us here thinking we'd be impressed with this 'American' bar. Obviously, that didn't happen. For any Chicagoans reading this, this bar is located in the Viagra Triangle of Düsseldorf and this place (along with all it's neighbors) would be the 'Mothers'... but at least we know where to send our guide when he visits Chicago next. Payback, for sure. The clientele seemed mostly older, divorcee-aged, though there were a few younger tables. The main level is sticky and standing room only and the crowd goes wild for songs that are perpetually lame to everyone in America besides mid-life crisis suffering suburbanites and people who enjoy piano bars. Songs like 'Who let the dogs out?', anything from Papa Roach and/or Nickelback, new-ish Bon Jovi releases, Lou Bega's 'Mambo #5', and more... but not ironically. A music video mash-up that did not match the songs that were actually being spun played on the overhead flat-screens. I was a particularly big fan of the Aretha Franklin video in black and white, Usher live in concert, and a raunchy Rihanna video. I'm not sure what the 3 had to do with each other, but it was fun to try and guess what the person who did mix them together was thinking. Our guide noted that they mix a mean Redbull vodka, but since the rest of us value our lives and do our best to not mix our uppers and downers, we all just opted for a straight beer. No surprise here with an altbier, but we sucked it up since were heading to Belgium the next day and knew we wouldn't have to drink any more light beers the rest of the trip. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but keep in mind we also came here sober. It's probably a lot better to come here after you've already spent a sizable amount of time imbibing.

With the brioche buns, delicious beef patties and straightforward flavors, Grindhouse just GETS it. I went for the Jack Daniels BBQ (€11) with a black bun and it was beefy burgery perfection. Also tried the American-style burger (€11), which had me suspicious by the name alone. But this burger is on point and dare I say... comparable to In-N-Out. It's a double patty cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, bacon and even a mustardy secret sauce, which reminded me so much of my beloved West Coast burger from home. Service was super fast and no nonsense, and they accept cards as well. After a series of burger struggles across the city, Grindhouse gives me life, and you should definitely eat here.
