This was an awful experience. I had to return the rental because apparently the customer who rented before me had an issue with a flat front tire. I basically rented for ONE DAY and was charged 66 dollars for a 20 dollar car. I had to put air in the tires- TWICE, paid for it and still the rental place were willing to give me an OLD CAR. the place obviously is a sleazy scam place with poor selection of vehicles. Thrifty then charged us $9.99 administrative fee for each of those 12 toll charges on those 3 days for a total of $119.88 Administrative Fee! 3 toll charges where $0.46 cents each and thrifty charged $9.99 3 times. 1 toll $0.66 Thrifty charged $9.99 2 tolls $0.94 each Thrifty charged $9.99 2 times. 4 tolls $1.32 each Thrifty charged $9.99 4 times. 2 tolls $1.34 each Thrifty charged $9.99 2 times. $11.88 toll charges $119.88 Thrifty Administrative fee. Only selecting one star because I cannot select zero. Manager Luis was very rude when I return my vehicle. He said I needed to vacuum it before I dropped it off otherwise he would charge me $250 to detail it. I ended up calling thrifty in they said that we could take it to the airport and drop it off for free and they would vacuum it. Manager Luis told me that any car that goes through there only gets a quick vacuum with his handheld vacuum cleaner. It makes me wonder if this place is Covid safe at all? Is he wiping down the cars? He's only vacuuming with a little handheld vacuum cleaner, how Covid safe is this place? Very disappointed in thrifty car rental as they allow this sort of thing to go on at one of their locations. Do not rent from here unless you plan on detailing the car before you return it and like rude people. The car was not that dirty. A quick vacuuming would have sufficed. He said he wanted us to return it exactly how we rented it, which in his mind meant vacuumed. I escalated the matter to thrifty.com which did not really help and we ended up spending another hour taking it over to another location where I would not have to vacuum it before I dropped it off. Pros: Good off season pricing Cons: Terrible customer service. I rented a car for over a month, extending the rental several times. In that regard they were flexible, but it was also more revenue for them during slow season, so that seems reasonable. What was not ok was the long hold times. At one point they kept me on hold so long that I got into the car and drove over. By the time I arrived I had been on hold about half an hour and when I walked in, they were just chatting off to the side. I held up my phone showing them I was still on hold and explained that I wanted to extend the rental. Instead of an apology for leaving me on hold and walking away for half an hour, they charged me an extra ten bucks for extending the rental this one time. When I returned the car, cleaned, washed and with a full tank, I asked for that single $10 charge to be refunded, because of the hold situation. That is less than a 2% discount. As it turns out, there are no tolls once you enter the keys, and the tolls we did encounter before then amounted to about $2. So, this was a lie aimed to get tourists to spend more money, and I'll never again use a business that condones this behavior from their employees. read more

Writing my first bad review...bummer. This place is a disaster... Like some of the other reviews mentioned, we booked online and were confirmed. Went to pick-up our car on the day of rental and were told there were no available cars (this, after waiting 30 min in line with one person behind the counter and two others just hangin out). There are a zillion ways to tell a customer that their reservation can't be filled....but blaming the customer for booking online isn't one of them. The agent literally acted like we were insane for expecting a car after booking online. Then the little accented lady (mentioned in previous posts) came to 'our aid' to help us try to rent a car for "much more than what is quoted online" from another mysterious source. Yikes, lady. We left...called Enterprise on the other side of Miami and got a new rental right away. Seriously just shifted loyalties. Enterprises' customer service and check-out flow is way more advanced. Even though their cars are sometimes a bit more expensive overall, they don't nickel and dime you for little things like the cheaper car rental places do. With experiences like this, it's worth opting for a premium, reliable service. This place is an absolute trap. Literally the worst. It was 40 degrees outside and the lady at the counter made us wait outside on our rental car because she didn't want 2 people in the office at the same time. I made reservations to pick up and 830, arrived at the office at 835 because our driver was running late. She told me that I should have been there at 830 if I wanted my car on time and since I wasn't, I had to wait at least 30 minutes. Thrifty Car Rental came through for me in a pinch when faced with a last-minute booking for a planned business trip to Key West. My go-to (Enterprise) was fully booked, and this was the nearest location with available vehicles for the days I needed. A Chrysler Sebring (or equivalent) was reserved for me to the tune of $59.99 per day. A little steep, no? Upon my arrival, I was informed that my vehicle would be a Dodge Journey - a mid-size crossover SUV. Definitely not my first choice, but hey, who am I to complain when someone else is paying? But then again, I was off to the Keys in a vehicle that didn't have cruise control or keyless entry, but did have bluetooth, an MP3 jack, and a 6-CD changer. I don't get it. The service was very friendly, though I thought it was curious that they had me do the walk-around to inspect the vehicle for dents/dings, etc. Every other rental agency I've been to does it themselves, with you along for the walk. The location is a bit tricky, as it's right on Collins in the thick of South Beach, and parking is limited. But if you're an experienced Miami driver, this shouldn't be a problem. Enterprise is still my first choice for car rental, but Thrifty is now a definite viable option, especially in a pinch. read more

If I was able to give no stars I would! After looking through out the web we came across expedia.com and reserved through there. Everything went great until we actually got to the office. We arrived 30 minutes late due to plane delay. It wasn't just the hour that we had to wait for someone to reach out and speak to us, but when the "manager" told us they did not have out car. Manager claimed that when one reserves and pays the insurance it only to "reserve" or keep the same price, that does not means you will actually have a vehicle once you arrive to the pick up facility. Also, if I wanted to wait for a car, which let's not forget was actually reserved, there was a wait list of 60 other customers before me and they did not guaranteed the price. Which at the end of the day wasn't it the insurance charge for? Since we arrived 30 minutes late, they gave it to someone else. Before we left for Miami, I happened to read all the Google reviews and yelp reviews for this location. They were all horrible. Debated whether to cancel or not, but the latest yelp review said they were under new management and gave it 4 stars. So I called twice to thrifty confirming our reservation, and they said it is confirmed and the vehicle will be there. On the say of the trip we went to the rental place, and the thrifty employee (who was of course late) asked when we had made the reservation. I said 3 months ago. And the he says "the thing is, we have no cars". And there are 6 other people who have reservation waiting for cars". He was very unapologetic and said it as matter of fact. I said ok.... Is there a way you can arrange for us to pick up the car at the Miami airport location. And of course he was unhelpful. And then a person driving a car shows up (luckily for us) and the thrifty employee says "if that person is returning the car, it's yours". So by chance we got lucky and were able to be on our way. Another episode of costumer service with a F U. Rented a car for a day. Tried to return it the next morning before work at 8am the supposed opening hour for this location. No one was at the location. I guess they slept in. Called the 1-877 number and spoke to dispatch number and letting them know that their isn't anyone at the location and was advised to leave the car in a parking spot across the street. While I work I spoke from a woman working at the location. She stated that she's not going across the street retrieve the car and that I would be charged an extra if I come bring the car back across the street. I haven't even gotten to the location yet to rent the vehicle. Our reservation was made online through a travel site, I decided after the fact to add a car seat to the reservation instead of checking mine on our flight. I called the number provided which took me directly to a call center. I was disconnected 8 times while being transferred to the correct department. None of the operators spoke English well enough to understand what I was requesting of them. One of the operators said she needed to transfer me to a different department and when I was supposedly transferred, the same operator picked up to transfer me to another department and was immediately disconnected. Inacceptable service, to be precise, there was not even a service. We booked our car on their web site in advance not to pay an exaggerated price for holiday seasons. As our flight was rescheduled and we knew we are arriving later than expected, we called thrifty's support and arranged our reservation to later time. When we came to this office at 3pm, Sun, it was closed already(btw the address specified in the confirmation mail was wrong: 1520 Collins). So, we came on the next day, then, the staff said "the reservation is not valid anymore. It's for yesterday. We keep the car only for 2 hours from the reserved time." We explained that we called in advance and changed the reservation time. But they responded " it's not reflected on our system. And it's between the staff you talked on the phone and you, not with us. We have lots of customers waiting for today's reservation." in a bothersome way. They don't respect the reservation and don't care each customer. There was another customer who was furious about their service, by the way. If you find yourself needing to rent a car in South Beach, please read this and proceed with caution. This rental facility is among the most unethical and corrupt businesses I've experienced. On Saturday, January 7th, I was in need of a rental car as my previous plan to rent a car from the Fort Lauderdale airport fell through on January 6th because of the shooting that took place. On Saturday morning, I showed up and rented a car. At this time the service was fine. We shared the time we would be returning the car on Monday and there was no indication that there was no after hour accommodations - which would have been important information. Come Monday, we returned the car around 5:45 pm. At the time everything online (including Yelp) indicated that this Thrifty closed at 6:00 pm. Upon entering the facility it took several minutes for Sergio to come out from the back room and tell me the store was now closed and that my only option was to return my car to the Miami Airport (there was a sign on the door that said the store location closed at 5:00 pm, but this was never mentioned at the time of rental. In addition, it is not mentioned on any of the contract documents provided to me at the time of rental). At which point, I said that there must be another option, but he refused to offer any additional suggestions. I asked what he would do if I left the car in the lots and gave him the keys. He simply shrugged his shoulders and said "fine." I considered this option, because what is the worst that could happen? However, fortunately as I was leaving to unload my car, I saw a very small sign that was posted (not by Thrifty, but rather the city of Miami) stating that unauthorized cars would be towed. I reentered the facility and challenged Sergio asking him, if I would have left my car would he have towed it. He stated that he would have done so. Of course you can imagine my frustration. I left and ended up valeting my car at the hotel where I was staying. On Tuesday morning, I returned and asked to talk to the manager at which point Shirley entertained my complaint. Conveniently, Sergio was present in the room and did not deny any of my story. I point blank asked Shirley and Sergio if this was common practice and if they received a kick back from the tow company. She nodded and said they did. I said that it should be the fiduciary responsibility of the Thrifty employees to tell those renting cars that if they are parked in the lot after hours, that their car will be towed. In addition, there should be a clearly written sign that states "Cars returned after hours should be towed." Shirley said that the signs that are currently in place are sufficient and offered no apologies for the unethical behavior of Sergio. It is very unfortunate as this is one of the only rental car companies in this area. For this reason they are able to get away with these business practices. As I mentioned, if you must rent here - proceed with extreme caution. read more

Do not rent from this location! We had a car reserved for 9 a.m. (reserved a week in advance) and arrived at 10:45 a.m. to be told that there were no cars available. First we were told that the airport had not delivered any cars and then we were told that there was no car for us because it was over two hours past our pickup time (which is wasn't since it was before 11:00 a.m.). The agent was extremely rude and did not try to help us at all. The best he could do was to suggest that we check back at 1:00 to see if they had any cars. Since we needed to be somewhere at 1:00 (which is why we rent the car in the first place) that was not at all helpful. Rented a car from here during my last trip to South Beach. I got there early in the morning so i could get in and out quickly, how wrong was I. Their computer system was down and they chose to just wait until it came back up rather than doing rentals the old fashion way, hand written. This location does not honor price quotes from Sam's Club. We had a reservation but they said if we dont have the physical Sam's Club card to show them they couldn't give me the price. Note that they Sam's Club card doesnt have my name or my picture one it. You are better off at Sixt or Enterprise which are close by. Also they dont have a cleaning facility at this location so if you bring the car back with sand in it they will probably charge you a extra cleaning fee which i have never even heard of before. We were directed to speak with to some lady - she has a strong accent and was hustling us. Go to the direct source when you rent a car because it's cheaper that way. I reserved a convertible 2 months ago for this south beach location, my pick up time was 9am. I arrive around noon and the guy said they gave my car away. I was so disappointed this really ruined my vacation. We had plans for the day to use the car. This is unreal, he didn't even call me to ask if I was coming. I reserved it for the day, why would he give this away? He said there was a 2 hour window if I don't show they give it away. If I would have known that I would have come right on time, and again why didn't they call me and ask if I was coming. This is terrible customer service and completely unacceptable. I reserved a car 4 weeks in advance for a business trip. When I went to pick up the car, I was told none were available. I had to get a ride to the airport to get a car, where I was told it would cost more than twice the reserved price. I finally got a car at the agreed price, but it was a subcompact rather than the midsize car I reserved. I am 6'6" and do not for comfortably in a subcompact. Set underneath a hotel, it's pretty hard to find this Thrifty. The prices are pretty cheap $170 per week for an average (UK standards) car. GPD is $10 a day and insurance around the $20 a day mark (but optional). It's a no frills stores (two seats and a desk) and we had to wait 20 minutes for our car to be delivered from a nearby car park, but the rentals are cheap and that's pretty much the most important thing read more
