Back in August or September of 2016 I assessed with Awake and Aware and was placed with my current therapist. Now I'm awkward and really don't do well with new people in general. However, I don't recall my first appointment with my therapist which means it went very well. At Awake and Aware I've always been treated with kindness and respect. Despite my constant mean mug they always greet me with a smile and appear happy to see me. Next, my therapist. I've been around the therapy block and this is the best match I've ever had. My therapist has a sense of humor, is able to put my feet to the fire when needed, and best of all is authentic. I'm purposefully not posting their name here because you got to trust the process of being placed with the right person for you. DBT is the form of therapy used at Awake and Aware and clients are required to attend skills group once a week for 90 minutes. If you're looking for a therapist this could be the place for you.

After reports of my children being abused at their mother's home emerged, I got a court order to…read morehave my children evaluated by a therapist. We brought the children to a Child's Voice. My children were scheduled with Mindy Romero and seen several times. When I first asked about the process, I was told that I would be kept in the loop about therapy. Several weeks later, I was told that I would have to do a formal records request. Shortly after than, I was asked to not request my children's therapy records. I set a meeting with the agency's director, Tina Bond. When I spoke to Ms. Bond, she revealed that Ms. Romero had observed some initial evidence that my children had been abused, but they would need more time to be sure. Then my children's mother stopped taking them to therapy. Inexplicably, Ms. Bond took their mother's side and discharged my children from therapy without confirming their initial findings, talking to me, or doing any real treatment. It is shameful for a group claiming to represent the needs of children to give up on a case where therapy is so obviously needed. It's also worrying that they try to keep parents from getting the records. Whatever they do, they're doing it inappropriately and deviously. In the process, they are causing injury to the children of New Mexico. It's been several years, and I'm back on the hunt for good child psychologists because the ones at A Child's Voice failed utterly. If you care about your children, avoid this agency.
