As a new client of Jack Taylor's firm, the previous reviews posted was not our experience at all. He met us on a Saturday morning for a consultation and discuss our needs and concerns. ( for more than 2 hours I might add). Informative, engaging, while listening to our concerns. The few phone calls that were made to office, the staff was polite, warm, courtesy and helpful. I HIGHLY ADVISE ANYONE NOT TO EVEN CONSIDER PICKING UP THE PHONE AN DO ANY SORT OF BUSINESS WITH THIS FIRM or anyone involved AT ALL! I sought out this acct. firm once business were opening up during covid upon my former acct of 7 yrs retired. Upon meeting Jack for a consult he was more than happy to oblige , I'm a stickler for getting things done the more and more I visited his firm to confirm or catch up just to get things rolling it became bizarre . I would ask him if he recieved my emails and instead of looking at his computer he would go and look at his phone . I found this peculiarly odd. When it came time to get my taxes done for my company this is when i figured out this was all a farce so I would show up w/appt to pay my bill and question if my taxes are done . This was more CAT and MOUSE than client business relationship March , April , May came and left I had enough . I had to seek out another accountant so I wouldn't get penalized for filing late, this new acct. took less than 2 weeks to get everything done He NEVER responds to your EMAILS if you call it always some vague answer and the last time I showed up with an appt. to confirm if anything was being done he wasn't even in his office the door was locked ALOT of russling and going through papers , I found this weird he came out of the other room with a RED FACE like he had gotten caught with his pants down . I could not even look him in the eye clear indication I CAN NOT TRUST YOU moving forward. I gave him more than enough ample time to clear things up IF YOU WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO STEAL and I DO MEAN STEAL MY MONEY!, you should've have had enough dignity and respect to file my business taxes they were straight forward nothing to it ! The money wasn't the problem here I never had an issue with my other 2 PROFESSIONAL ACCTS , it's the act of DISRESPECT that is my issue and I'm certain the other clients that you've done this too felt the same! Now to follow up with the 2 other complaints below I STAND IN AGREEMENT WITH THEM as far as that new review IT'S A PILE OF COW PLOP anyone can type that up, that was only done after you recieved my legal binding letter. That you vaguely answered and never got back to me, oh yes I AM REPORTING , I was just waiting for this made up review to POP UP! I would give Jack Taylor zero stars if I could. He did the 2016 taxes and totally messed them up. He filed the incorrect return to the IRS and gave me the correct return to pay the tax payment. When I asked him to find his error he did return my emails or phone calls. This error also effected my 2017 estimated tax payments. Only when I reviewed the paperwork at considerable time on my part did I fine the errors he was incapable of finding. I found another accountant. The reason he moved to a new location is that he failed to pay the prior owners who sold him the business. You cannot trust someone like him with your money. Do not forget Bernie. read more

DO NOT USE THEM!!! (RUDE, TERERIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, OVERPRICED AND THEY DO NOT RESPOND TO YOUR EMAILS AND CALL RIGHT AWAY.... SOMETIMES THEY TAKE WEEKS.)... READ BELOW BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO USE TOBIA AND HILLYER. I was refereed to them by a friend and schedule an appointment to do my person taxes last year. The charged me almost $400 even after referring a few clients to them. I did not having anything complicated done. I called this year to schedule an appointment for my personal taxes again and also to schedule my husband's business taxes, I simply asked for the times and dates they have available this week and how much they would charge this year. The receptionist transferred me to Burt because she thought I was asking about my husbands personal tax information. How a person can confuse schedule a appointment with me asking about person information , I am not sure. Burt quickly answered the phone and spoke in a very rude condescending tone and said "I don't know what you don't get. I can't give out personal tax information." I responded "Do you even know what my question is because I didn't call asking about any personal information. I was calling to see what days and times you guys have available this week for my husband to have his business taxes done." He then told me the hours they had available this week but when it came down to the price Burt did not want to give me a price. After asking a third time for the price this is the conversation we had: Burt: "Your husband knows how much he paid last year..........It is going to be $250 more this year." Me: "Do you have that on file? It should be in your records." Burt: "You don't even know how much it is going to cost. You're asking the wrong questions. Me: "My questions were what appointment times do you have available this week and how much it is going to cost. You just said it is going to cost $250 more than last year. Is that correct?" Burt: "I am losing my patients with you and if you or your husband want to deal with us you can have him call." He hung up on me! I am not sure they they are still in business if this is how they treat their clients, especially a client who gives you referrals. They treat their employees just as bad as they treat their clients. Cons 1. Both partners are micromanagers. 2. Both partners are difficult to work for, have no patience, and treat the people they work for with little or no respect. You need to think fast on your feet. In addition, they have terrible tempers and are quite capable of flying irrationally off the handle at the slightest provocation. They also like to "talk down" to you to show off how much they know about their profession. To sum it up, they are insecure with little or no tact! If they worked for a larger firm, they would have been fired on the spot within a week of their first day. 3. Salary - way below market standards for the type of work involved. 4. Benefits, vacation, etc. - substandard. 5. Career Growth - none. You shouldn't expect job growth in a small firm where the pay is cheap, and the amount of actual work is always done by both the partners since they want to keep their clients information close to the vest, and they are looking to sell the company to the highest bidder. If you decide to work there (only if you are desperate), it is just a 9-5 paycheck job. Consider yourself lucky if both partners like you, since they are both easily dissatisfied with whoever they hire and they have no hesitation to fire them at any time. After changing my accounting firm of 10 years strictly due to geographic distance; to THT Tax and Accounting this year, I am compelled to respond to the ONE review left by Elizabeth O in 2015, as time is a catalyst for change. The company she mentions in her very graphic and possibly true review in 2015 is no longer the same company that resides at 309 Bloomfield Ave in Caldwell. Yes, it is still named THT Tax and Accounting, probably for logistical reasons. However, firmly printed on the door is Taylor Tax Accounting. The last "T": in THT, for Jack Taylor. Since first encountering Jack and (Mark - associate of the firm) at the N.Essex Chamber of Commerce meeting earlier this year, I felt an immediate sense of genuine concern for their clientele. In fact, our first meeting was almost 3 hours, where Jack, Mark and Marge (An amazing woman - on top of her game, personable, and extremely professional) indulged in conversation to better understand me AND my company. They listened intently and never looked at the clock once. I don't even remember if Jack wears a watch no matter how many times I visit. Spending that time with me to learn about my company's values, purpose, mission and vision for our Legacy was priceless. LITERALLY! because Jack announced at the end of our meeting, that the consultation was free! He said, "it is important to us that we understand you and your goals in order to better guide you in the best decision making process for today and the future." The experience has been like that ever since. For some, visiting their accountant is like pulling teeth. As for me, not only does Marge make the best coffee this side of town; but Mark makes sure I don't get a ticket at the meter because I love to ramble on about all of my ideas for the company - while Jack absorbs everything I say and provides not only solutions to any issues; but real guidance for the best professional steps to take in order to make the most use of the legal opportunities our tax laws provide. And as if, there was not enough icing already on this cake - Jack Taylor and his entire staff are glass half full spirited people. No matter the challenge, I leave the office of THT Tax and Accounting with a solution in hand and a positive outlook on the future. I had similiar experiences as Paul P stated in his review. Jack Taylor is a total incompetent when it comes to filing taxes and keeping you in compliance. Zero Stars. He DOES NOT return telephone calls, Emails. You have to continue to track him down, and when you finally do, he does not take any responsibility for his mistakes. When he bought the firm, he got rid of the entire existing staff of qualified employees, resulting in clients needs not being addressed. After paying an expensive amount of money for tax preparation, he Messed up my taxes bigtime., resulting in IRS actions and penalties. Found another accountant, had him look the tax filings over. His response was he could not believe a CPA completed them until he saw Jack's signature on the forms. Many mistakes, items in the wrong area of the forms, deductions that were not correct, eligible deductions not taken, etc. Unless you want continued headaches,do yourself a favor and FIND another firm to use. Nobody needs to deal with the IRS. read more

My husband and I have been Jack's clients for a few years, and I can't say enough good things about his practice. Each year Jack makes time for us, never looks at his watch, and answers all of our (admittedly mundane) questions. He never makes us feel as if we are wasting his time, and in fact he explains things to us in detail to make sure that we understand. He also includes a financial review in his tax prep at no additional cost, which is something that I haven't found anywhere else. I highly recommend him and his staff, and encourage readers to consider him not only for tax prep but for general financial direction. He was professional, punctual, and thorough. I especially liked how after he completed our taxes he walked us through what happened the year before and how to prep for next year so we could understand what changed not only with our financial situation but with the current tax laws. We found his fee to be more than reasonable for the services he offered, and look forward to having him do our taxes for years to come. read more
