HUGE THUMBS DOWN TO KOA THUNDER BAY
When they say "Must be accompanied by someone 19 or over" they really mean "Don't be 19." I and a small group of friends; all Honour student graduates attempted to book a one-night tent reservation, (as I am a camp counsellor in Alberta and don't get to see anyone during the summer months). We planned on catching up, chatting, and playing guitar, but were bluntly refused by the owner, who justified this by saying we "sounded like a party," half an hour after we booked our site. The KOA says that all children must be accompanied by an adult, which they state is any person over 19 years of age, however the fact that there were two 19 year olds and four 18 year olds suddenly made the previousy statement irrelevant, and she quickly discriminated us based on our age. We've recently had the pleasure of staying at Happy Land, whose owner gratefully gave us a chance to display to her that our age doesn't necessarily dictate our behaviour, and she was pleased to have residents use her cabin that appreciated and respected the property; abide by the rules of the camp, and cleaned up after themselves.
It's a real shame, not only the age discrimination young adults like myself are constantly faced with from members of the public, shopkeepers, managers, and powers of authority, but also that some members of my age group have ruined opportunities like this for others. I'll be having a wonderful get together with my very mature, respectful friends at Happy Land this weekend. It makes me smile that some people still believe in giving people the chance to make impressions for themselves. read more
