We waited about a week just to receive a rough estimate, which came in around $10,000 ( not a small job). Given the size of the project and the fact that we are working with a mortgage company on a rehab loan, we requested a detailed written bid outlining the scope of work and costs. Initially, we were told this would be provided within a few days. However, we were later informed that we would need to pay an additional $500 just for them to return to the property and prepare a detailed estimate. This would bring our total to over $1,000 without any actual repair work being completed. When we questioned this and asked if they were interested in taking on the job, we did not receive a clear answer. For a project of this size, transparency and communication are critical. Charging such a high additional fee simply to provide a detailed bid--especially after already paying for an inspection--feels unreasonable and discouraging. Unfortunately, this experience has led us to look elsewhere for a company that is more straightforward.

The appt was set for between 10 am and noon. They ran behind and didn't show until around 1 pm. The biggest issue though was that their estimate to swap out the disposal. The new one was already here waiting, and their estimate was $402 just to do the swap. Absolutely ridiculous. I laughed and sent them on their way, and then called another company that was here in less than 10 minutes. They did the job for $125. Won't be calling Marathon again! ***Adding detail due to the owner's comments: Yes, we were texted that "Your plumber will be arriving at the latter part of the appointment time." That would be near the noon. At 12:05 I texted and asked if there was another eta, as the time had passed. At 12:17 the response was that they had to drop off another piece of equipment and would be here in 20-30 minutes. It was longer, however that wasn't the issue, delays happen. The price was the ridiculous part. The 1-star review was for the price gouging. I called around and compared the standard service calls fees but also to see who could get to my home fastest. Jim not only beat the other companies in my immediate area in time but beat the call fee by a comfortable margin. Jim exhausted every possibility of the problem before doing any costly work that I didn't need and willingly showed myself and my wife each step of the way, which I appreciate because I have changed a couple heaters when a was able.
