Just what I was looking for - thank you, Yelp! I was in Brussels for a morning meeting and wanted to find a place close by to eat that wasn't too expensive. Thanks to Yelp I decided on this café. At first I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find it, but you can't miss the 20 person line! And the line never let up! All of the reviews recommend the fried chicken (poulet pané) so I decided to try it! Waiting in line went quickly - I enjoyed the warm aroma of fresh baked bread (and you can see it baking. The oven was constantly full of bread to meet the huge demand!). The person in front of me ordered the fried chicken with mozzarella, tomatoes, and tartare sauce and when it was my turn to order I took the same! I wanted to enjoy my sandwich at the restaurant. I loved the purple walls and communal style dining tables. I wound up sitting across from the person whose order I copied. We had a nice chat - turns out he works close by and is a regular. My sandwich was way too much and they happily gave me a to go bag! Will definitely go back next time I'm in Brussels for work! And the great food and service cost me less than €6 including my drink! read more

We first learned about Thérèse et Dominique through an article by Derek Blythe in the Brussels Times. He's the guy that wrote that 500 Hidden Secrets of Brussels book. In the article, Blythe shared some of his favorite spots to eat, drink, and see around Brussels. We were excited to go back in late February, pre-Covid and sample, what he called, "some of the best Italian-style sandwiches in town." We went at an off peak time and skipped any semblance of a line. My wife and I each tried a different sandwich, ate half, and switched. On our first go in February we tried the Blythe recommended Bonne Maman, made with meatloaf, zucchini, grilled red peppers, arugula and their own homemade cocktail sauce, as well as their Président, made with camernbert cheese, arugula, Granny Smith apples, olive oil, balsamic vinaigrette, honey, and pomegranate arils. Both were spectacular. The bread is very nicely made, and their sauces were really well balanced and complimented each sandwich perfectly. Back in February, this place would have received a five star review. But for some reason, I never reviewed it. Well, we finally went back again, post-lockdown, and, well, they're still on point. This time we ordered the Rodéo, made with roast beef, a three pepper tapenade, arugula, and parmesan cheese. We also tried the Ciccio Bello, a breaded chicken sandwich made with tomatoes, mozzarella, eggplant, arugula and slathered with their homemade tartar sauce. The roast beef was a little tough to get through, but the three pepper tapenade was a great balance of peppery flavor without being spicy. The Ciccio Bello however, was an absolutely perfect sandwich. The chicken was breaded and cooked perfect, very juicy with a nice crunch, and the tartar sauce was impeccable. All in all, in two separate visits, Thérèse et Dominique has left us excited to come back and try another different sandwich each time. Unlike most sandwich places where I would find a favorite and stick to it, I don't see that happening here. Each sandwich is a win! read more

Well, what can say that hasn't already been said? Probably nothing, so I'll just pile on and say this place is amazeballs. This hardworking little shop was about a 5-min walk from the lodging the hubs and I occupied while in Brussels, and I'd stay at that location again just to be close to this sandwich shangri-la. We visited twice during our 2-day stay in town. This appears to be a family operation w/ possibly mom and dad making the food and the son handling the cash. Could be wrong, but I like to think of it that way. It is very, very busy at lunch, especially for take-out. The line can get pretty long, but it's worth the wait!! You can get either a 1/2 or 1/3 sandwich, both are huge and based on a fresh baguette baked in the store. The main ingredient everyone seems to go for is the poulet pane, a breaded chicken cutlet thingie. We had some of that in several different sandwiches, and also had a tuna sandwich. What really made the sandwiches for me was the sauce they put on them... it's a kind of tangy mayo-y sauce that was so tasty. Apparently, the sauce does not come standard on all sandwiches, so be sure to ask for it. :) Sandwiches here were sooooo cheap... best value we found on our 2-week jaunt through the Netherlands and Belgium. If you are looking to eat on the cheap and your lodgings have a fridge, I would even suggest ordering one sandwich to eat for lunch and a second one to take away and eat later for dinner. The 1/2 baguette sandwich is huge, and the 1/3 baguette sandwich is still very large. Ingredients were very fresh, and the flavors were just fantastic. Menu is in French but we just kinda pointed at what we wanted and hobbled our way through ordering w/ our very crappy and limited French skills. This place is on the outskirt of the tourist area, but serves a mean sandwich. Having read so many great reviews, I had to go and give it a try. We got there around 11:15am to line up for our sandwich. There was only 1 person in front of us so I thought that maybe the hype has died down or perhaps Monday is their slow day. Well, I was wrong. In about 10 mins, a nice queue of local police officers, construction workers, and other locals & tourists formed behind us. For my sandwich, I chose Italian ham (procuitto) and raw vegetables. The simpleness of the sandwich, quality ingredients & fresh bread, makes it so appealing and delicious. My wife had the fried chicken cutlet sandwich with mozzarella & tomatoes. It had a nice sauce and lots of arugula that made the sandwich. Her sandwich was pretty good, but I enjoyed mine more. I really wanted to line up for a second one, but the queue was growing. If you're looking for a cheap and quick lunch, I highly recommend this sandwich shop. They also serve amazing salads as I saw one being made while I was ordering. Check out some of the pics. This place was a lucky find in Brussels... Yelpers gave it 5 stars, so on our last day in Brussels, we walked from our hotel to this place and saw a small line already formed around 40 min before it opened. We explored the area and came back after it opened with about 25 people ahead of us. Not being able to read the local menu, I ordered the "chicken" sandwich and the older couple behind the counter nodded back. I assumed they were the owners and possibly the son was the cashier. They were all very nice and packed the sandwich with all sorts of vegetables and pieces of chicken cutlet. It wasn't a sandwich I was used to having as cauliflower is not normally found in a sandwich in the States, but the bread was soft and fresh and the chicken cutlets were tasty. I enjoyed the sandwich overall but wondered what it would be like to order like the locals and gotten one of the sandwiches featured in the pics of Yelp. Nonetheless, the location is convenient, steps away from a big shopping area, and the meal itself was super cheap. I would probably go back a little more prepared next time and figure out the exact sandwich I want, assuming I ever get a chance to visit the city again. read more

Great little place for a lunch bite! Very limited hours but the line is always out the door. The whole time I was there, there were no less than 20 people in line. Know what you want before you get to the counter because you don't have much time to glance at the menu. Inexpensive at between 3-5 euros for sandwiches, and they so do salads. I got the Poulet Aubergine salad sandwich and it was very filling. Bread was wonderful and meat quality decent. read more

super nice staff and worth the wait! the line gets pretty long around lunchtime, but it dies down around 2. I got the ciccio bella which was grilled chicken, breaded vegetables, and tartar sauce all on a baguette. I got the small size for 2.50 which was a great price for the portion. The sandwich was fresh and light. I will definitely be back to try out the fried chicken sandwich that everyone is raving about! read more

If you're in the area because you work around, or if you're here just for a shopping session, then drop by! don't be afraid of the queue's size, there are many people, but they go really fast serving you. don't be afraid of the colors inside, once you get your sandwich, you just don't pay attention to this anymore. my advice : breaded chicken with grilled vegetables, sooooo good! the trick : send a friend with the list of sandwiches go and wait while you're hanging around :P read more

This amazing sandwich shop is definitely for the locals, so as a tourist, it should be on your must-go list. Worth the queue for sure. We had the breaded chicken (poulet pan), mozzarella, tomato, tartare sauce; and the italian ham, mozzarella and eggplant (aubergine). Both were delicious. so i tracked this place down like a hawk based on the reviews. i happen to be in the neighborhood 10 minutes before they opened and there was a line 5-10 deep. i read all the great yelp reviews and decided i was going to get the chicken with veggies and the sauce which i think was tartare. so i spoke zero french and yet the man of the house took such good care of me as i'm sure he's used to tourists all day. i REALLY appreciated his warmth and taking care of me. end of the day i think it just may be a cultural thing? my life didn't change. the chicken was nothing to shout home about nor the was the sauce. it wasn't gross but just didn't move me to tears or close to it. its a strange combination to the american palette but i REALLY wanted to like it but just didn't. Possibly one of the best "fast food" restaurants you could ever go to. Therese et Dominique offer amazing selections of fresh food, at great prices. The que is pretty long, but moves quickly. What I like best is probably the fresh bread that they bake right there in the shop, so you know what you're getting is the best it can be. The staff is very friendly and accommodating; even with its communal-style seating and the sometimes chaotic feel to everyone lining up for their food during the lunch-hour rush, it is always comfortable, clean, and the food is amazing. read more
