Yeah, the majority of instruments are legacy wooden and brass from centuries ago. The 17th to 19th century pianos are gorgeous. But there are rooms with synthesizers from the 1950's to 2000's. Live in the flesh musicians also perform several times per day. The player I met who performed on the viola de gamba was a virtuouso. I'm an advanced level guitarist, we had a great conversation. Bring your camera, you'll take 100's of photos. Also in the boutique are lots of CD's. Yeah I know, ancient technology but the selection is grand and the prices are low. There was a 10 CD box set of the female jazz vocalists from 1930 to 2010 on sale for 29 euros. I'm kind'a ambivalent about Paris after 20 visits. My wife loves the city way more than I do. But this museum is my favorite in the world. More than the Louvre or the Vatican.

This may well be the most comprehensive museum on musical instruments history on the entire planet. Certainly, I have never even heard of anything that compares to THIS place. Absolutely a MUST-SEE if you're at all interested in classical/acoustic music. Its exhibit stretches from middle-age viola da gambas to mid-20th century electronic instruments (like the ondes martenot, or the Moog synthesizer). The individual samples are superbly preserved and presented. Tons and tons of instruments, some of them quite bizarre. See my photos! The Musée de la Musique is just a stone's throw from the Métro (Porte de Pantin , Line No.5), and it's part of the larger Cité de la Musique, which also offers live concerts and many other exhibitions. Once you're done with the museum (expect to spend 2-3 hours there), there's a nice selection of local bistros and pubs just across the street, where until 8 p.m. you might get a "happy hour" beer at just € 5 per 500ml. Yes, that's what they call a happy hour in Paris. Highly recommended, and it doesn't get crowded. Consider it a hidden gem, even if it's not quite so hidden after all.

That said, it may take that fantasy sense to appreciate the Archeological Crypt of Notre Dame. There is a charge to get in, but we scoffed that with our Museum Passes. There is a fascinating history of the development of the city of Paris from Roman times, but it is mostly shown in charts and pictures, the only things you actually see in the crypt are the stone foundations of the Roman city. So, I would recommend this for archeology buffs or history buffs. One tip if you have asthma, it is a bit airless in the crypt, although cool!

The bath area is just a peek below and the Tapestries room was filled today with a class of college age standing students and 15-20 grade school age that swarmed around us and just sat on the floor and she started her talk. The six seats in the middle were taken and this was going to be a couple classes Let's go.... We passed. Too much work. i did mention it on exit and just got a shrug. This ignores the two different women with a covid sharp coughs that were easy to avoid they but should have stayed home.

It was created by Loius XIV as a hospital and retirement home for veterans. The museum has many different sections to visit and houses one of the largest collections of military weapons and other objets from the middle ages to the present: swords, knives, weapons, guns, pistols, cannons, armor, military uniforms, Napoleon's death mask, and so much more. It also houses a cathedral, St Louis des Invalides. We visited in February 2026 and paid 17 euro each for entrance fee. Its opens at 10am and closes at 5:50pm. Plan to spend at least 3 to 4 hours here. We were here for the entire day and still did not get to see everything. Audio guides are free as long as you leave an ID with the desk. I would recommend getting the audio tour. There was massive construction going on in the enormous courtyard, so unfortunately this area was not accessible. Lots of walking and stairs to climb. There is a cafe close to Napoleon's tomb to get some drinks and snacks and take a rest.

In November 2021 a friend suggested we see the play " Le Porteur d'histoire " at this theatre. I…read moredidn't go in with too much background knowledge on the theatre or the play, but at least knew the play was well-received in the past. My friend reserved our tickets for a Saturday evening showing. We arrived around 15 minutes in advance so that we could get in line and allow for time to collect our tickets at will call and for Covid sanitary pass checks. The staff were friendly and efficient. The theatre was small but reasonably comfortable. The seating consisted of benches. If you are short like me I would recommend grabbing a seat as far front as possible since it is not like at a cinema where the rows get more elevated as you go back. We were told to leave the very first row free, but then the last audience members who arrived seated themselves in the front row; not sure if maybe the staff were just hoping to leave that row empty but changed their minds when everything else got filled. Since the theatre was small, it made the ambiance a bit more intimate, but my friend who is quite tall didn't seem to have much leg room. The performance was great; I was impressed by both the artistry of the actors and their stamina in what turned out to be a long, energetic play. There were not very many props, as the actors typically conveyed the presence of objects or settings through miming or dialogue and they did this very successfully in my opinion. Both my friend and I really enjoyed our time at this theatre. I would recommend it for an accessible, intimate theatregoing experience in Paris.
