We are so fortunate we found this location and gave it a try. we had the feta and spinach risotto, and the charcuterie board. this was the best risotto we have ever had. We walked around and around, but because it was February, some restaurants were closed because it was not tourist season. After walking past Le Chaudron twice already, the third time I looked down and saw a light on, and realized, "Hey, that's a restaurant down there in that cave place!" Ok, I don't think it's LITERALLY in a cave, but maybe it is. It's set downstairs and the walls are made of old stone, and of course, it's in a very old building as is all of old Antibes. I ordered a fantastical pasta dish while my husband ordered a seafood dish. Not only was the food tasty, but what really put this place over the edge was the service. We are not fluent in French, but my husband speaks a little. The owner of the restaurant spoke very little English. She was just so gracious in trying to listen to my husband attempt French, and the three of us really tried hard to communicate which actually made for an interesting and enjoyable time. She understood our dietary needs and was trying really hard to make sure certain ingredients would be ok for us. We ate vegetarian on this trip, with my husband adding in seafood here and there, so it wasn't tough at all. I really loved how cozy this place was. While the menu (although all in French) was good with a nice variety, and the food quality and taste was excellent, the service really put this over the edge for both of us!

Having dragged my husband there to visit the Musee Escoffier, we arrived early and decided to have lunch first. Following my nose, a sensitive organ only rivalled by our 2 year old Labrador's, I smelt out the restaurant Le Chat Plume. What a find! Run by Cyrille and Guillaume, who were delighted to describe in detail their exciting menu, we settled in with locals and some ex-pats for a gastronomic afternoon. The smell that had enticed us in, we discovered, was from a main course of paupiette of veal cooked in Riesling and lardons and served with purple potato mash. Not having eaten meat for a year I was at once tempted from my vegetarian high-ground and ordered, my word it was worth it! But I'm getting ahead of myself - first the starters: my husband Nick went for a simple but delicious gratin of St.Marcellin served with a green salad and rustic bread and I went for a spicy tomato gazpacho served in a dish with a flan of parmesan. It was so good my knees are now dancing with excitement from the memory of it. We both decided on the enticing veal main and although I know I'll never get to vegetarian heaven, I'm a happy woman. I can't believe I had room for a desert, but was tempted by a glass of champagne served with a scoop of lavender ice cream in, while Nick ordered the ballotine of apple and calvados. All plates were sent back to the kitchen clean, as were the wine glasses and coffee cups. Escoffier would be proud - I would write a review of the museum but can't quite remember it in the same detail. Cost for two including aperitifs, three courses, coffees and a 24€ bottle of wine = 90€.
