I am regrettably writing this negative review about the AUCNY West Nyack location. After a few…read morefamily friends praised Dr. Giella, my father decided to transfer his care from our former urologist in NYC who had retired, to AUCNY. In January, my dad was diagnosed with what was referred to as "low risk" Stage 1 prostate cancer. Because of a discussion with Dr. Giella, who did a very good job of "selling" the benefits of treating it with radiation, my 84 year old father decided to move forward with the radiation treatments. It has been nothing but a nightmare since. During his second week in treatment, he was unable to void. So Dr. Giella inserted a catheter, and told my dad to come back in 2 weeks. 2 weeks later, they did the "trial" of removing the catheter to see if he would be able to void on his own. At the end of the day, he was unable to, so the catheter had to be re-inserted. Fast forward to today...almost 3 weeks later. "Trial 2" of removing the catheter, and unfortunately, the same result. In the meantime, as my father's healthcare proxy, I have politely requested 3 times for Dr. Giella to provide a letter/medical documentation so that my father can fill out the FMLA form at his job. It has been five weeks since treatment started and still no letter. This is completely and totally unprofessional for a doctor of Dr. Giella's good reputation. Now my father was told that within 4 to 6 weeks after completing treatment, he should begin to feel better. Which means the catheter has to stay inside for another 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 weeks. Then there is my situation...because my dad raved about Dr. Giella, I decided to make an appointment to transfer my care from Mount Sinai to AUCNY West Nyack. Because he is not accepting new patients., I was unable to see Dr. Giella. So I made an appointment with one of the other doctors. During my first visit in early April, I was told that they needed a urine sample. I politely mentioned that I would prefer to speak to the doctor first, as my situation is a bit complex. Before I could finish verbalizing that statement, the medical assistant became annoyed and raised his voice at me saying that it is getting late (4:00 pm appointment) and they did not have time to wait around until I decided to go to the bathroom. At the conclusion of my appointment with the doctor, I requested a follow up appointment for a uroflow test. The doctor said no problem and that he would go over the results with me during that second visit. That never happened, as the medical assistant (different one this time) told me that I had to wait 2 weeks for the results, which required a 3rd appointment. The medical assistant apologized for having an earbud in his ear and told me that he was on hold with a representative about an important (non-work related) matter that he needed to take care of. When we got to the other office, I explained to the assistant that I was unable to drink a whole liter of water working an hour because of a medical condition. He politely encouraged me to try to drink more water...and told me that while I was doing so, he was going to continue to wait for customer service...it was a personal call. When I finally did so the test, this is when I was told by the medical assistant that I would need to schedule a 3rd appointment to review the uroflow results with the doctor. Maybe I am wrong, but this seems like a "money grab" operation more than an urology practice. I have been getting Uroflow tests for years as part of my regular six month follow up visits with my former urologist, who would review the results with me at the conclusion of each visit. No scheduling a second appointment two weeks later, and then a third appointment two weeks after that to go over the results. The next day, I called the practice and requested to speak to the practice manager, Richard. I received a call back at the end of the day with a voicemail which I returned within 30 minutes.... And have not heard back from Richard since. I should have stuck with Mount Sinai in the first place, where the front office staff and medical assistants are always top notch. It would be unfathomable to think that a medical assistant would raise their voice at you for a simple request to discuss a analysis with the doctor before leaving a sample, or having a medical assistant, tell you that they are on hold with Customer Service, and make you feel like the non-work related phone call was more important than you, the patient. After I get my Euro flow results this Friday, I plan to never go back to this "money grab" business that presents itself as an urology practice. Between my father going through hell, and not being able to get a letter to document his FMLA request after repeated requests, as well as my own personal bad experiences doing both visits, I wish there was a way to give this place zero stars as a review. Because they unfortunately do not even deserve one star!

During that consultation, I was informed that I would receive a call to schedule an appointment. After waiting two weeks without contact, I reached out and was told that Deloris would return my call. Two weeks after that initial inquiry, I called again to speak with the office manager. Although the manager, Richard, eventually left a message on my home phone at 1:19 PM stating he would call back at 2:00 PM, I never received that call. I have since reached out again and left a message for him, but I have yet to hear back. I would appreciate an update regarding the scheduling of my procedure as soon as possible.

In conversations before the bris, I knew that my friend was nervous about the process, the ceremony, and the actual circumcision. I can say with confidence that Dr. Rumbak put the family's mind at ease both with her expertise and her gentle approach. As a "spectator" at the ceremony, Dr. Rumbak passed around sheets so we can all follow along and feel part of the ceremony, and explained what different blessings meant. She also added some Jewish text in a modern and relevant way, which I appreciated, and my family continued to discuss post ceremony. The sweet baby did super well and was calm throughout the entire process. Truthfully, I didn't even know when the actual circumcision actually happened because she was so gentle and discrete. At the end of the ceremony, many people went up to Dr. Rumbak to compliment her on one of the best brit mila's they ever went to, and many asked for her card (including my mom for our temple!). She has a great business partner in Shachar, who socialized with the guests of the ceremony, kept everything organized, and was just an all around stand up guy. Oh, and how great that she is a mohel AND a doctor. Talk about putting your mind at ease..that will definitely do it. Highly recommend.

Would have loved so much to give a glowing review of Dr. Rumbak but unfortunately we look back on…read morethe day of my son's bris and what transpired after with a lot of sadness. Dr. Rumbak deserves credit and thanks for her discretion in not circumcising our son the day of his bris due to a urological condition she noticed in her ore-ceremony examination. We are thankful for that. She performed what essentially worked out to a baby naming ceremony for us. Obviously the day was emotional to begin with and the news she couldn't circumcise was extremely disappointing and heartbreaking since this was a day we looked forward to for so long. In the days after the bris we were able to absorb the events better and realized exactly what happened. To begin with, my wife asked for a program to keep as they were being collected (yes, collected), and the response was, "I collect them." She said the same to my mom (baby's grandma). We consider this ridiculous - even if the baby's grandparents couldn't have one, at least the parents should. When I emailed Dr. Rumbak about the issue I'm about to describe, I also mentioned the program and that part of my email was left unaddressed. Here's the major problem, though. We paid $800 for a circumcision plus $150 for travel from Manhattan to Nassau. We were happy to do this because we really liked Dr. Rumbak on the phone. However, after the bris, we had a bit of a realization that really irked us. Why were we never offered any kind of refund for the circumcision not being performed? It really should have been offered that day, on the spot, but it wasn't. Days and weeks turned to months and we still were never offered anything. We didn't even get an email or phone call to check on our son given the medical issue Dr. Rumbak identified. This was surprising given the emotional nature of the day but also because part of Dr. Rumbak's service (advertised on her web site and vouched for in her reviews) is her frequent follow up with the family. Finally after a few months, I emailed her explaining we feel we are owed some kind of refund due to the most critical part of the ceremony, the circumcision, not being performed. It is that expertise for which we paid. Dr. Rumbak issued a $200 refund, saying that the rate for a baby naming is $600. It's unfortunate such a beautiful day was soured by the experience we had. As new parents we feel we were, in a way, taken advantage of. Dr. Rumbak did ultimately give some money back, but we feel we shouldn't have had to ask. Experiences like this are what make people cynical about organized religion. The right thing to do would have been to give us a refund without us having to ask. We would not recommend her.

But, I have a problem with my copay that I paid upon my visit in August. The billing dept sucks and unprofessional. You cannot get anyone to speak to you directly. The most you can leave messages with the representatives. On 9/4 I was told by my insurance company I do not owe any co pays after receiving my bill. Since then to date i have been calling every week. I kept asking to speak to a supervisor or mgr. I was told there is no one to connect me to. Last Wednesday I called again and spoke to Ruth. She said, she will escalate the matter again to Brian. She said he will call me back. To date, Brian has not call me back. I called this morning n spoke with Fran she said she will leave another message. This is all these people are telling you. No one in management to speak with u or the billing dept. I need my money back. That's all I want. It belongs to me. If I do not get a call from Brian or anyone in billing I will escalate this matter to the business bureau. This is what these medical billing office do. Once your money taken, it is hell to get your refund. This is robbery. Scamming patients of the $$$. I will never pay any medical office ever a copay. I will request a bill. I hope other people see this review and do the same. STOP paying copay at any medical office. It is a scam going on amongst them. This is not the only medical billing dept I am going thr this with. They are all the same. It is so sad what it comes down to. No one you can trust even in the medical billing dept for your money back once it is taken.
