I just spoke with the representative Carla. She was absolutely horrible. She asked me my name twice. I provided it twice after that. I'm calling you all for assistance and she is the one asking me all of the questions. After providing her with my citation number, she immediately said "you have a bench warrant" my response was no I do not. I just went to court yesterday. She said no I'm asking you do you have a bench warrant??? she originally asked me for my license number. I told her I didn't have that so we went with the ticket number then this is what she says? I told her thank you anyways, and I excused myself off the phone. The assistant is already too confused. I have no desire to do any business with this company. I was traveling to miami with my family when I pulled over to the side of alligator alley to assist one of my children. A min or two later a sheriff was behind me without his lights on. Hmmm, did I win the case? My bank account doesn't think so. A friend of mine recommend them to me. So I paid their fee which was $69, ok fine. Then Mr. Unger represented me a day before xmas eve in court apparently. Result was I had to pay $277 worth of court fees or something? Not really sure anymore to be honest. Grand total would be $347 for a red light ticket! I repeatedly emailed and called trying to tell them that I never got a red light ticket through the mail which would have been initially $158 if I ever got it in the first place. I would have rather paid that amount instead! So the fact that I did not get it ever, without my knowledge turned overtime into a uniform traffic citation which apparently is whole other much more heftier fee. I explained to them in detail that the only reason I even had a spick of knowledge of anything wrong is when I started receiving red light ticket advertisements through the mail. I then called one of the paper ads and asked them what the hell was going on?! And that's when they found my ticket in the system. I told Unger and kowitz this. Did they take anything I said into account? Doesn't seem like it from where I'm standing. I ended up paying because it's already a headache and I shouldn't be surprised that this is what lawyers and our lovely government loves doing...screwing you over like always. I should have read the unrecommended reviews first. There's quite a lot. They're probably going to flag me down too even though I'm describing what I feel and the fact that I find it all unsatisfactory. read more

Back in my younger days (I'm only 28 but I don't feel it! ) I had a bit of a lead foot. I had my fair share of speeding tickets. It's a cheap one time fee per ticket. And they handle the rest from there. They appear in court for you, they handle all the processing. I have YET to pay for a ticket because they lost or get any kind of points added to my license (knock on wood!) This is a late late review but i used Unger and Kowitt a few years ago on two different occasions for red light camera tickets. First, it's important to realize that with anything in the legal world - YYMV - a great lawyer can lose or have some sort of fine imposed, a horrible lawyer can win for a reason as simple as a cop not showing up, you get the point. It's not really fair to review legal firms and attorneys based on winning/losing alone in all cases. If you have 30 tickets, you're not getting off easy for the 31st :) I can only assume many of the cases are from people with previous issues/record/tickets or similar, which is already starting from a disadvantage. So all that being considered, it's more important to review based on treatment, communication, time and effort put into a case, things like that. Unforutnately, for most people once you pay the fee and hand over the ticket, it can be hard to know what the lawyer actually does or how hard they worked. I can comment about this, however for my recent experience with U&K We've used the larger companies in the past with mixed results but always felt like they were so slimy - typical get them in get them out quickest cheapest way possible approach. So, I contacted U&K after finding a blog about red light tickets online (nice they take the time to answer the hundreds of questions over many years; appreciate a smaller company vs the huge mass volume ones that treat you more like a number.) Immediate responses, polite, informative and not pushy. VERY easy sign up (can use the app and get $5 off too) and the documents to esign and send back were sent within a day. Painless and quick - no back and forth and no endless info to read. Very quick to get entered into the system, and happy to say the case was completely dismissed which is of course great! Next day got an electronic letter, so much nicer and easier than waiting for snail mail. Immediate response to every single email too. What stood out though is that there was a minor detail (technicality) that got it dismissed, and while it was a relatively simple thing and maybe easy to determine for them -- it showed they actually DO look and focus on each detail, and don't just plead no contest to everyone to make it easier and move on. I'm not sure one of the big mass volume companies would have caught that - who knows - but it says at least they are paying attention and working as best as they can for you, even at this price! Had we lost or had fees it certainly would have sucked, but I'd still be happy with their attention/communication/service. All in all I appreciate their approach and small company feel, you get much more atttention and respect with them then you would with any of the huge pushy companies, and even if you end up with fines or similar you can feel you did everything you could and hired the right people. Hopefully we won't ever need them again but if so they will definitely get our business! read more

All I can say is do the math. I hired this firm to get me out of a "failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign ticket". I have an excellent driving record with my last ticket being well over 6 years ago. They were successful in having the charge removed and no points assigned to my record, HOWEVER, I was assessed $203 in court fees plus the lawyer's $89 fee. Had I chosen to attend traffic school the cost would have been $186 for the ticket plus $30 for a 4 hour online course. In other words, $76 cheaper than going with a lawyer. I have no complaints about the firm. They were polite and professional enough. My decision to go with a ticket defense lawyer saved me TIME which for me IS money, however that may not necessarily be the case for everyone. read more

Don't waste your time and money here! I paid for the service but ended up paying twice the amount of the initial fine. The whole thing dragged for three years! Unger & Kowitt refused to issue a refund. I got the red light ticket in Feb 2015 of $158 fine. Instead of reviewing my case, the staff simply told me they are experienced, plus if the ticket is not dismissed I will get a refund. So I paid $69.95 for the service. While my case is 'handled' by Unger & Kowitt, I received another notice that if I don't pay for the ticket, the penalty will increase. I called the office and the staff told me not to do anything because 'they got this'. So I didn't do anything. About a month later, I received a third notice from Miami-Dade that since the ticket is past due, the penalty increased to $277. I called the office again, and was again told 'don't do anything'. Finally almost three year past, I received the court decision that the ticket is not dismissed and I need to pay $277! Including the 69 dollars I paid to Unger & Kowitt, I'm paying twice of the original ticket and wasted three years time! I requested a refund of the $69.95 (I didn't even request a refund of the difference between 277 and 158 which is purely due to that Unger & Kowitt didn't submit my case in time), but was rejected. The staff insisted 'they've done their job and they don't hold any responsibility'. He said that no business would work for free. When I questioned their promises of refunding when I was explained 3 years ago, the staff blamed me on 'not having a good understanding of the process'. When I said it should be the staff's fault since she didn't explain me the right 'process', he said 'no, the staff had no fault'. When I said I'm very disappointed with the 'solution', the staff said 'don't worry you are not the first one' (seriously?) This business bet their luck on that Miami-Dade change the traffic law. Pure gambling. Think twice before you choose them. Record all your communication and put all your agreement in written! They will not admit what they've said and are not willing to take any responsibilities. They bet you are guilty for your ticket so you won't speak up. Ask if they are as skilled and as professional as they advertised, why wouldn't they assess your case in the first place before they charge you; why all the testimonies and reviews on their website are at least 3 years old; why the so called 98% success rate is based on 2014 results not 2017? If I could give ZERO stars I would have. I got a bad vibe the first time I talked to them before the pre trial hearing. Talking with Unger on the phone he was very condescending and impatient to get off the phone. He wasn't willing to discuss how he was going to approach the case and just kept saying he wouldn't know what he could do until he got to court and saw the evidence... He didn't want to take the time to make a motion to get the evidence before hand.. which of course would be actual work. Shortly after the pre trial hearing I discovered that he entered a no contest plea and I now owe $175 for the ticket and $106 for court costs. They didn't even "fight" the ticket at all. The minutes of the court proceedings (which I downloaded from the county site) show the start time 2:22 and the end time 2:23.. which means he spent about 1 minute of work to make $75.. not bad work when you can get it. Everyone on here that is saying that they got their cases dismissed are deluded. All they did was show up and plead no contest and because you had a clean driving record the court "withheld adjudication" which means you didn't get points.. but the case is still on your record.. so the next time you show up in court you won't get off so easy. Check out the county website and you'll see it's still on your "record".. The only reason to hire an attorney is to fight a ticket... I could have shown up in court myself and stood up and said "No Contest", why did I pay $75 for this "service"??? read more
