The front desk staff were helpful calling us a taxi. When we went to our room it was very clean but very hot, which was surprising since it was December. I immediately turned on the AC and noticed it was blowing hot air. I called the front desk and no one answered so I went down. I was told the AC unit was broken and someone was onsite to repair, it should be fixed soon. If not, they would give us a fan and show us a trick to unlock the window. We left for a couple hours to have dinner and came back. The room was very warm. The person said it shouldn't be too warm, but said the would bring a fan. When the front desk gentlemen walked in he mentioned how warm it was and apologized. He set up the fan and unlocked the window for us. After this the room was manageable. My friend who had a room on another floor said her room was not as warm either so there was definitely an issue with our room. Other than the hot room and difficulty with the parking the stay was fine. If it had been summer I don't think I would have been able to stay in that room.

It was a bit of a challenge to find as you went out the door at the end of the hall to find it. It was so quiet and had a view of the Old City Walls and gate. Thankful for air conditioning and complimentary bottles of mineral water in the room. Thirsty? Grab more water from the orange fridge in the lobby. There is also a full honor bar down stairs with drinks and snacks. Our room included a full breakfast buffet in the morning. Loved how the choices were laid out and labeled so clearly in German and English. Enjoyed so many delicious breakfast options. I wish the gym had a treadmill, but frankly I'm happy they had a gym at all with a bike. I really have no complaints. Everything about this hotel was wonderful. And if you're wondering about the location, don't worry for a moment. It's about a three minute walk from the train station (I know what you're thinking, but I promise this train station isn't dodgy at all and there are no bad characters hanging around, so it's totally safe!) sits in the middle of the wonderful Main Street for shopping, Christmas markets, and fruit stands. After wandering all around the area we decided that Karl really did have the ideal location for our needs. Sitting only a block from the Hauptmarkt right off the river, the hotel is within walking distance of the castle, the market, many notable attractions, loads of shopping and restaurants...yet strangely peaceful and quiet at night. The hotel is clearly new, with a sleek, modern style. We reserved 2 rooms and requested connecting rooms if possible. We ended up with 2 rooms at the end of a hall, each with their own door, but both doors within their own lockable third door and entryway. The rooms were a good size with a very modern decor. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, and every space we visited within the hotel was spotless. Checkin was simple, and the staff exceptionally friendly. There is a coffee shop next to the lobby, and multiple restaurant options within the block. While breakfast was not included, we received vouchers for free hot beverages upon arrival. And honestly for the price paid and the feel of the hotel, not getting an included meal seemed fair. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, and highly recommend Karl August to anyone planning a trip to Nuremberg.
