As Scarborough is still a bit of a rural backwater at the end of the road to nowwhere, if the few small, local PC businesses in town didnt trade, we'd have to go all the way to PC World and the like in York and Hull. On a couple of occasions over the last five years or so, Coywood has proved to be a lifesaver as people grow more and more reliant on their home computers. In addition to selling various kinds of peripherals, Coywood seel complete PC packages and will build a PC to order if required. They also sell reasonably priced refurbished laptops (usually Dell) which come with warranty as standard. Where they excell though, is when you have to turn to them for advice and help on technical matters. They'll take the time to talk you through whats wrong and how they'll fix it and show how to avoid it happening again. On the couple of occasions I've had to use them, they've been very competitively priced, and I;d happily use again without hesitation.

I called to notify them of the issue and ask for the correct item to be delivered. They said it would send it out again. As they hadn't met the next business day delivery I paid extra for I told them it was only fair they refund the express delivery fees and I was happy for them to pick up the wrong item. Their attitude from here was appalling. They said they would only refund the delivery fee once I had posted them the item out of my own pocket. I told them I don't go anywhere near a post office so it isn't possible without me taking multiple busses and wasting a lot of time and going way out of my way to get to one. Their response was 'well we wont refund the delivery fees until we get our item from you. Your fees are our security to get the item back. They said refused to pay for a courier to organize the collection of the wrong item they sent me. I was told other customers don't ask for refunds when they don't deliver the right items. When I said this was poor customer service they said I was just being argumentative and was unwilling to help them. They said they would get someone to call me back shortly. Of course this never happened. I called again that afternoon and then the following day before they guy said 'fine, you don't want to help us, I'll refund the extra delivery fees and I guess we'll just take the loss' then hung up. I'll have to see if they actually do refund the fees. I tried to be helpful by letting them know I received the wrong item and would have it ready for them if they would organize collection. I have never had a company tell me to mail their items back to them out of my own pocket because they made a mistake.

Said he would inquire about how much the parts would cost and get back to me the next day, and I could bring my laptop back in for the repair once the parts were in. I did not get a call back on Thursday, so I called him on Friday to inquire. He said they had not heard back from their suppliers, so would call me on Monday. Still nothing on Monday. Called back Tuesday, and was told someone would give me a call back. Tara called on Wednesday morning (one week after I went in) to say that she would look into the cost of the parts and call me later in the day. Guess what, no call back! Finally, I have called ByteGuys today. Apparently, a broken hinge is a common problem. They are going to pick up the laptop from my home, do the repair, and drop it back. Now THAT is customer service! Should have gone to them in the first place.

Last year my girlfriends laptop conked out and her insurance company told her to take it for a valuation on how much it would be to fix. she took it in there to see if he would be able to do anything about it, he charged her a flat rate for the tests, then when she went back to see how much it would be to fix it he said he would try free of charge. Next time she went in, unfortunately it was beyond repair, but he prepared an engineers report at no extra cost so that she could send it off to the insurance company and she would get the correct valuation on the replacement. More recently, I went in as I wanted a new desktop PC, and got a quote to see how much it would be for the spec I wanted, and found that it was around £300 cheaper than the equivalent if I had gone online and got it manufactured by a larger company. Shows how much commission they take! If you have any computer problems I would recommend this place, he won't overcharge like some of the places in Middlesbrough.

Anyway I since learned how to repair my own but still use the store when in need of parts or software. On this occasion I needed MS Office student with 3 user licences & this place had it for a cheaper price than anywhere on the net. It is a professionally run shop with knowledgable/friendly staff that seem to be the same guys from my first encounter. Well deserved 5 stars. Tucked up a little pedestrian walkway, off the main street. No parking obviously!

I didn't believe them as I am no idiot and knew there was something seriously wrong with the computer. I asked for this in writing for which they charged me £25 on picking up the computer and getting it home within 30mins the fault came up again. I cannot use the internet or emails as my email company has advised there is a serious virus on my computer and must be removed. I even took a copy of the fault that came up on the blue screen. Ordered Motherboard bundle and a B grade 1TB NVME SSD…read more The value of the B grade nvme was £80 Incorrect 500gb SSD shipped - the mistake was due to incorrect (possibly deceitful) labelling of stock inventory and clearly no system of thoroughly checking items before being posted to customer. Emails then ignored for 3 days, wasn't until they were called that any action was to be taken. Not only is that an unacceptable time frame, its frankly borderline disability discrimination, as someone who is AuADHD and have other health issues, the last thing I want to be doing is ringing companies to chase issues that should already have been looked into as it makes my symptoms worse and I will be unwell for days after. On the phone I was spoken to with Dan, who did not offer a satisfactory resolution to the problem. It felt like there is a culture of apathy at CCL where the whole system seemed quite inflexible and born out of a business that is happy to regularly make mistakes at the customers detriment. It is not my fault that the wrong item was sent and that there isn't stock of the item I ordered. The reasonable solution most other decent companies would have taken would have been to replace the £80 B grade NVME with new stock one (£100 at the time of my purchase) and have the 500GB incorrect one returned and the company eats the mistake of losing £20 - but naturally they had already increased the price of the new item to £115 and did not give this option. Instead I was forced to choose between a partial refund or returning the item - not satisfactory considering the items are all part of a birthday gift for a 13 year old that needs to be ready in a weeks time. Edit - was called again by Dan who said he cannot do the partial refund so the only option was to send the item back and get a full refund. NOT IMPRESSED I will not be using CCL again unless the realise the value in seeking returning customers via good customer support and will stick to using their competitors.

I ordered a CPU from them on Nov 8th at scalping prices (£70 above RRP) on the basis of a promised 15th Nov shipping date. When it hadn't turned up by the 20th, I contacted them and was told to expect it towards the end of November. By the end of December still nothing heard, so I emailed them telling them how unhappy I was - they didn't bother to answer my email but logging in to the web site, I find out that they have simply cancelled my order without telling me. I have never had such dreadful service from a company selling computer parts.
