Nestled in a centuries old fishing community, they're home to a unique collection of gift shops, museums and art galleries, delicious restaurants, coffee and bake shops, ice-cream canteens and fish n' chip shacks. Because it's off-season, a lot of the shops were closed but it was fun to walk around ... I love being by the water. In addition to the shops, it also functions as a fishing wharf. I never knew this place existed until today. I imagine it's an awesome place in the summer with all the shops open.

Stopped in on our first morning. Great menu and list of options including pastries and food items. Being a coffee "nerd" it was cool seeing the grinders, drippers, filters, etc on the wall for purchase! Everything was great! Kids loved the cookies, we loved the sausage roll and our coffees were absolutely fantastic. Great flavor, perfect size, and very knowledgeable! I started to have an allergic reaction later in the day so we started tracking down what I had in the day - gave them a call and they helped out with ingredients that they knew of. Later on in the day, we received a phone call back from Steve who had gone out of his way to call his local sources for more ingredient knowledge. Good service. Coffee prepared just the way we wanted it. And excellent pastry. Graham the barista and perhaps the owner was working like a madman preparing orders. I'd be delighted to have a shop like Main & Mersey down the street from my house. There was plenty of space. I hope they are jammed for dinner. We sat at the community table and we got the history of Liverpool and an analysis of local economic conditions from a lovely woman who was at the table with us. The Liverpool Tourist Authority might want to hire her. Or maybe she WAS working for the Tourism Authority and we didn't realize it.
