Have been researching coffee places to try on our 2 week adventure to NS. Of course, staying in Lunenburg the first option and plenty written about was Laughing Whale. Stopped in on our first morning. Great menu and list of options including pastries and food items. Being a coffee "nerd" it was cool seeing the grinders, drippers, filters, etc on the wall for purchase! Everything was great! Kids loved the cookies, we loved the sausage roll and our coffees were absolutely fantastic. Great flavor, perfect size, and very knowledgeable! I started to have an allergic reaction later in the day so we started tracking down what I had in the day - gave them a call and they helped out with ingredients that they knew of. Later on in the day, we received a phone call back from Steve who had gone out of his way to call his local sources for more ingredient knowledge. Definitely wasn't expecting a return call with extra information! Incredibly nice people and we are already planning our coffee order for tomorrow! read more

Visited this famous coffee shop during my trip to lunenberg. Read about this place in lots of articles before visiting. Well as expected, ambience of cafe is vibrant and casual. This cafe is nicely decorated with packed coffee beans, coffee mugs, utensils and other products on sale. Best thing about them is that they are the first in canada to use best traditional roasting techniques with latest low emission and heat recycling technology. Cafe had a long queue but luckily most of the orders were to go which made easy for us to grab a seat outside. We ordered: Cinnamon Roll latte: Started our day with this freshly brewed latte with single shot of espresso. Good for those who likes to have a lighter version. Yesterday ordered two cappuccinos to go here for my partner and myself; frankly, we ended up pouring them down the sewer grate on the street outside. The coffee flavour was weak, hard-edged and stale-tasting...there are any number of coffee places in the Lunenburg/Mahone Bay area we could go to the next time, or just go without. I also notice that the other reviews listed here are from at least two years ago or longer...something has changed, it seems. read more

No where will you find better coffee. Organic and amazing, Laughing Whale Coffee been my choice for the better part of 2 years now and I haven't had anything else since. From the various blends they have, they sell their coffee at the Halifax Farmers Market Saturday mornings and its the first thing I look forward too! Combination gift and coffee shop. You will find kitchen gadgets, liquid gold olive oil and coffee goods here. We went in to see what they had for drinks and they do offer almond and soy milk so you can get many drinks veganized. The service was great too!
