Coffee is delicious, too bad it's only warm. Coffee should be hot. Unfortunately I got to go and I'm on the way to Calgary.

Lacombe is becoming a more frequented place for me to meet country town & rural friends. Mostly as Red Deer is just too busy to accommodate last minute get togethers unless you are closer by & have the opportunity/time to drive around. That's how I first got to experience Ona & that was back when there was a furniture & a homewares store including the cafe within it. Things have changed since then (now only cafe & cafe space is significantly larger with raised patio in back) but still fabulous food & great coffee. Plus the bonus is the neat extras one can also purchase. Lots of lower height tables & it seems to be quite popular with larger groups & families (observation from my last visit a few weeks ago). Parking is on the streets around but I have yet to walk further than a block. Bathrooms are generous in size & I greatly appreciate how well kept they are considering how popular this place always seems. Decently lit with lots of natural light. A bit more on the louder side now that it is only a cafe but still a good spot to cool off & rest the arms from driving. I've tried treats & sandwiches here - both are of decent sizes & what the price of this are these days, I would say at a reasonable price. Coffee is always tasty here & I quite enjoyed the iced option this last stop being that the outside temp was over 25C. Staff are always friendly here & great at answering questions. As a cane user, I also greatly appreciate that things are bright out to the table so I don't have to navigate around searching for seating with food &/or drink plus a cane in the other hand. Thanks for always an enjoyable road break!

Place was 80% full when I got there and most people even just got thier food + drinks to go. Lovely place to kill some time or for a coffee date. Loved the assortment of unique goods at the back. Cashew cream cheese, chocolate milk, crackers, broth, candy, etc. What a wide range! But all very unique and would make such a great gift for food-lovers. I tried the sausage roll $7.50: 9/10: very greasy. They do warm it up for you. Sausage was a good texture and taste. Pasty was nice too but sausage falls right out of pastry when eating. I also tried the beet root latte. SOOO pretty! So beautifully pink. BUT tastes like warm milk with no other flavor. I would have liked a stronger beet taste. So if you want something for show and not taste this one is 10/10.

When we arrived, there was only one other group dining. It was a little bit confusing on whether to ask for a menu and order at the counter or to sit and wait to be served. No biggie - after inquiring, the gal behind the bar told us to take a menu and have a seat. Our party of three found a cute table, helped ourselves to some water and perused the menu. We waited a little uncomfortably long to be approached then found out it was the waitresses first day on the job and there was nobody there to assist her. She was waiting tables and making drinks from the extensive list of smoothies and coffees. About 20 minutes later, the manager or owner came rolling into the restaurant. We ordered the Kale Caesar and few different Avocado Toasts. My friends Caesar salad was meant to have tempeh on it but came out as basically greens with lemon juice squeezed on top for $17. The toasts were fine but nothing better than you could make at home. The salad was so disappointing that my friend actually kindly approached the owner/manager to let her know of the let down and asked about the tempeh. She was explained that they could no longer get tempeh from their supplier. Seemed like a pretty easy fix to reprint the paper menu. I think there is a market for these little plant based eateries and I want to see them succeed but this one was severely underwhelming.

Tollers Bistro's food is certainly worthy but since each of its previous five ratings are fives, I'll go against the grain with a four, as there is always room for improvement. Located in a small strip mall, it's a high ceiling open space that lends itself well to safe dining. Tables are nicely separated and booths have guards between them. However, there is no sanitizer available at the entrance and I noticed the waitress seating customers without masks, so a little more effort regarding patron's safety would be nice. The food is excellent. Great menu, lots of choice and really interesting. We did some sharing, fish tacos, sweet potato fries, and cauliflower bites. Fish was battered, not normally my favourite, but was light and really tasty. Maybe the best sweet potatoes ever and the cauliflower bites are a meal, lightly breaded and tasty, maybe too big to be shared with just two people, most of ours came home. Staff is friendly and attentive. Waitress didn't know the beer list and suggested I "go look", which is fine but there weren't that many to remember. She did, however, bring us a takeaway box without being asked as she noticed the cauliflower bites still lingering on the plate. I can agree with the previous fives, but there is always room for improvement, at Tollers it's just some attention to detail. Great spot!

We had our dog with us and thankfully, they have a very dog-friendly patio with cozy couches and lawn games. Pro-tip: go to the dog park across the street first and find the flyer offering a free pint! My husband and I started by ordering a flight of 4. I specifically asked the bartender for 4 beers I wouldn't normally be able to get in Edmonton and he had some great suggestions. I especially liked their 24-2 Brett Stock Ale which we ended up buying a couple bottles of to bring home. They also make an excellent sour. Blindman is great and definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Lacombe, but if you don't, their beers are sold in stores all across the province and they offer delivery in Calgary, Edmonton, and parts of central Alberta.

For me it was the meatloaf sandwich and for my partner it was Chipotle Turkey Bacon. They use really thick slices of bread that some may like and others might find too filling. My meatloaf sandwich was only $10.50 which is good value. The Chipotle Sandwich was a bit more at $13.50 but that's still reasonable. I had a coffee too. It was fine, though nothing special. WiFi is free but not password protected. It was nice inside the cafe. Very roomy and not too loud nor too quiet. It was easy to carry on a conversation. I enjoyed my sandwich but it was a bit large. Still this could be my new go to cafe when I'm hungry on the QEII. I recommend it.

If you want to keep your calories in check, make any sandwich a salad. That way it cancels out the cinnamon bun appetizer, probably. I have been coming here for years but never wrote a review in an attempt to selfishly keep the lunch-rush lineup at a minimum; but alas, the good word has clearly gotten out. So best to call your order in ahead of time if you're in a hurry - do NOT rush these lovely ladies in their craft, they are hustling HARD.
