Great family weekend at Timbercreek Bed and Breakfast. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Several of our rooms had fireplaces and were very cozy. We drank our morning coffee outside by the fire on the patio. Jim, the owner, was great. He cooked a fabulous homemade breakfast and served us each morning. Beautiful and peaceful b&b. Tranquil surroundings, woods and a nearby creek. Outside the rooms is an outdoor fireplace, but we had a fireplace in our room so did not use the outside one. The room also had a whirlpool bath and big double bed. Great breakfast on Sunday morning, thanks to Jim the proprietor. The website says continental breakfast on Sunday, but Jim made us a delicious egg casserole, english muffins, jam and fresh strawberries. My husband and I stayed here on a spur-of-the-moment decision to visit our daughter in Urbana and we already have plans to go back. From the moment we turned into the winding, tree-lined lane our first evening, it felt like a little oasis of welcome. Peaceful, beautiful, warm, tranquil. Connie, our hostess, and even Mo, the large farm kitty, made us feel at completely at home. We were treated to a lovely breakfast our first morning. Better yet, that next evening after our return from a long day at U of I, she recommended a German restaurant that couldn't have had friendlier servers, a more memorable atmosphere, or more delicious, authentic, yummiful food! (I was raised in Europe--I know German cuisine--and this was spot-on!) Thank you, Connie, for a delightful get-away, and thank you, Mo, for your own little brand of welcome. I booked a Friday overnight stay for me and my wife for her birthday. Four days before we were to check in the owner, Jim, contacted me and asked if we could checkout at 9am, 2 1/2 hrs early. His explanation was that we were to be the only ones staying that night and he wanted to rebook a pastor's retreat for that weekend. He offered no apology, and no compensation. I'm still unclear as to what those extra 2 1/2 hours would've given him, as check in time is 3:30pm. When I explained the visit was for my wife's birthday and that I did not want to force her to wake up early the next morning and that, no, we would like the full stay for which we would be paying, I was met with silence. The day we were to arrive Jim emailed me to inform me he wouldn't be there to greet us, but gave me the keycode to the office to let myself in. When we arrived the drive was covered in ice and there was a van double parked in the two check-in spots. We had to park in an event parking lot farther down and I had to duck-walk back in the falling snow, on the ice and snow covered drive, to get to the check in office. I fell on the ice at least once getting to the office. Maybe the owners could not double park their own vehicles outside of the office and force guests to walk? My wife and I loved the property. It is on a beautiful spot of land, the building is well designed and maintained, and our room was extremely nice. We enjoyed our evening. The next morning I went down for breakfast (my wife was not hungry and wanted to stay in bed). Our breakfasts were in the oven staying warm. I started some toast and made up some hot drinks for me and my wife. I took her drink up to her. When I came back down Jim was there, in his stocking feet, finishing breakfast preparations. I attempted some small talk and was greeted with silence. Jim served my food and then went outside to shovel the walk. I uncomfortably ate quickly and then went back to our room. When my wife and I left later that morning Jim was downstairs. My wife apologized for not coming to breakfast - explaining that she had preferred to sleep in. Jim, without saying a word, turned his back on her and walked out of the room - leaving me and my wife standing there in shock at his lack of etiquette. The property is outstanding. The owner is not suited to be a host, at all. If you are expecting a B&B stay with gracious hosts who are welcoming and courteous do consider other properties. read more

Do not stay here. My wife and I had a horrible experience at TimberCreek for our wedding. I could write a short novel on how many things went wrong but will only share a few. Please contact me via Yelp with any questions and I will share more details as well as can provide evidence to support some of what I'm about to say. Also, be sure to look at the reviews that are not recommended. There are some shocking stories there that will sound very familiar to this one. Pros - TimberCreek's employee, Connie, is wonderful. I am astonished that she still works there. The owner legitimately had her crying with how he treated us and her. Cons - I'll mention two... 1) When we were having our rehearsal ceremony the night before the wedding, the owner (Jim Walder) decided to mow the lawn right next to us. Then as we were heading to our cars, he decided to mow around our cars. He was driving his lawnmower inches away from us and my nieces/nephews - even with us trying to make him stop. This event occurred after numerous instances where we were harassed and blamed for being the most disrespectful family he's ever had to deal with. He sent some very unprofessional emails to my fiance (the bride) days before the wedding which included personal attacks on our family. This was obviously an act of aggression and there were many eye-witnesses who saw this take place. 2) The owner refused to let me check into the rooms (which was paid for in full). We had booked all the rooms. My dad tried to check in, however, the owner kicked him out and locked the doors to the Bed and Breakfast because he apparently didn't like his attitude. I went in to talk with the owner to see if I could smooth things over but he started rudely telling me that I better have a different attitude than my dad's or I was not going to be allowed into the rooms. He was shaking and spoke very inarticulately - clear signs of instability. It turned out he was mad that we had amended the contract many months prior to the wedding. We only wanted to stay there one night instead of two, so we amended the contract and the price and we (including Jim) signed it at the time it was amended. There was no reason for there to be any trouble. I deal with contracts in my professional field all the time and this is a very normal occurrence. I then asked him about his attitude because he was making accusations about my character, as well as my dad's, without me having done anything to show disrespect or unprofessionalism in any way. He was about to not fulfill his contractual obligations due to our apparent "bad attitude" and him being mad we chose not to pay extra in order to stay another night. He proceeded to tell me to leave and locked me out as well. My fiance and the bridesmaids were in there with a clearly unstable man locked inside alone with them. I had no reception so I could not call my fiance to warn her. Luckily, I was eventually able to call 911. Once I hung up, Jim opened the front door and at this point, my groomsmen came to help. I then went up to him and told him he was contractually obligated to let us get in our rooms since we paid for all of it. There were only three hours until the wedding. He told me he'd let me in if he saw an attitude change so I asked him what he meant by that. I was wondering what specific actions he was looking for to show my attitude had "changed". I then asked if the contract mentioned any specific attitudes we needed to have in which he replied, "the attitude is the contract!" Everything I said just seemed to infuriate him. I realized I had two options - (1) pretend to be in the wrong and apologize in hopes it satisfies him or (2) reschedule the wedding and lose the $7,000 we paid. Luckily, my best man smooth-talked our way into the Bed and Breakfast so we could finally shower and get ready for the ceremony. I talked with the cop once he arrived and told him all was well (because the owner was walking right next to me). We had to succumb to the owner's delusions in order for him to fulfill his contractual obligations. Again, this was hours before the ceremony. I've worked with many venues in my professional career and have dealt with some difficult business owners but trust me - this is as bad as it gets. read more

The owner, Jim Walder, is unbelievably rude and miserly. For someone who likes to claim Christian values he is more concerned with money than hospitality. He's in the wrong business, and his mean spirit did a lot to upset my hard-earned vacation. I made changes to my booking a week before our stay, and Jim sent a revised bill to me. He charged me $189 for a night in a cabin with no running water and an outhouse. I questioned the cost via email, and went back and forth a couple of times before I reached out by phone. I didn't get a call back right away, so I left on my vacation before resolving the problem. I thought I could just figure it out in person. However, when my family and I arrived at the Inn Conne, who met us, said she was surprised we were there since we had been asked to stay somewhere else. We were shocked by that, and it started to dawn on us that something was going on. It turned out that Jim had sent me an email after I left, saying he preferred we stay somewhere else on Friday! When we realized we had been dis-invited so rudely, my husband and I said we would be happy to go stay somewhere else -- we just wanted our money back. "He's not going to do that," said Connie. She was right. Mr. Walder expected he could rudely send us away, but that we would RETURN THE NEXT NIGHT to stay in his inn. Long story short, I cried, Connie cried, Mr. Walder refused to refund our money but did concede he had made a math error, we didn't have anywhere else to go, we stayed there, Connie was amazing and fantastic, and I'm committed to telling everyone I can about the poor treatment we received. Seeing similar stories on Yelp about Mr. Walder, I can see we're not the only person who has experienced Mr. Walder's mean spirit. read more

Pros- *If you're having a large family gathering or a wedding party, then this place is awesome! Nice, big living room and dining room for family and friends to gather... *Outdoor patio and fireplace is stunning. *The rooms are beautiful. New, clean, VERY nice. *The lady who makes breakfast is very sweet and does a nice job. *Very scenic and beautiful place. Well maintained. Cons- *The man who runs to place is not friendly at all. During the wedding, he was more worried about his generic tent falling than having common courtesy. He was pounding on stakes throughout the beginning of the ceremony which was extremely rude. No class. *No tv's in any of the rooms. Not necessarily a con just don't expect there to be a TV. *No cell phone service/terrible wifi. *Definitely overpriced! Other than the man who is not very accommodating and is extremely rude, the place is very, very nice. read more

If there was a "0" rating this what would be given! The owner Jim Walder is unbelievably rude and very disrespectful to his customers that are paying him !! If questions are asked be ready to have him throw contracts at you and threaten to throw you off the property specially if you stand up to his answers that you know are incorrect ! When you run a business you are there to please your customers specially on a wedding day! When you tell your customers that set up will be done by a certain time then that is what is expected not 2 hours after the fact if the tent company did not delivery on time that is the owners problem and responsibility not the customers ! If you know the wedding party is setting up and decorating why would you NOT finish the inside before you go out to set up chairs ? I would not recommend this destination for any weddings not sure really why a man like this would own a wedding destination when clearly does NOT like women specially those that question him ! However I will say the hostess that lives on the property is very friendly BUT she should NOT have to repeatedly apologize for this mans actions If you are thinking of holding your wedding here really think about it !! You might be told something but it will change so be prepared ! If you hire horse and Buggy be told you have to stop giving guest rides you are messing up his grass Really ?? read more

This is a great place to go if you want to relax without any distractions--if you're looking for a satellite TV forget it, there is no TV or phone in the rooms. My wife and I went here for our anniversary a few years back and had a great time. I would highly recommend this establishment. Horrible people. We planned to have our wedding there. They treated us terribly so we backed out and they wouldn't refund ANY of our money, not just the non refundable. They claim to be God fearing people but God fearing people do not act like how these people did. I stayed here a few years ago and had a good time. Pretty rooms, clean and quiet. BUT I would NOT recommend it, NOR would I return. We appeared to be a mainstream couple when we stayed, but we are not. And I would never have given them a dime if I'd known that our appearance was the only reason we were treated nicely. Future brides, listen up! If you choose these people for your wedding venue, get everything in writing! Do not let the owner tell you something, and then go back on it a half-hour later. He breeched my contract several times, and made it very clear that he didn't care about "the law" He went so far as to threaten my groomsmen physically simply because they showed up on the time agreed upon by the owner and myself for pictures! This man is a liar, and he is hostile! He double-booked my wedding and let the other wedding party intrude upon my photo session, and then told me that I, yes, me, that I need to be respectful to the other wedding party..that had NOTHING to do with us! If there were a 0 star rating I'd give it, but there isn't, so 1 star will have to do. I booked a one-night anniversary getaway online. The B&B had a Specials page that included a discount for anniversaries if proof of wedding date is provided. There were no instructions as to how to book the rate, just a button that linked to the regular booking site. I assumed the hotel would provide a rebate once we showed up with the anniversary proof and went ahead with the booking, and followed up with an email to confirm that we wanted that rate and would provide proof at check in. I got a response from the owner saying that "Once your card is charged for the reservation amount that you agree to online, we don't offer a refund." I explained about the unclear instructions on the web site and his responses became more and more accusing and unreasonable. When we showed up at the B&B after a half-hour drive, we found the door locked and an envelope taped to the door with a refund check, saying that we were not welcome and should find somewhere else to stay. Seems a rather un-Christian act for a place that claims to be Christian! Obviously I cannot recommend this venue at all. read more
