Beautifully cared for b'n'b with all the charm of days gone by and wonderful breakfast, super friendly staff

We arrived at 5:30 PM and were greeted immediately at the door. The gentleman who met us (Brian), gave us a full tour of the historic house and grounds - and even played the piano for us! We enjoyed snacks and drinks right outside our room. We sat out on the covered porch on the side of the house and enjoyed the setting sun. In the morning, we were treated to a gourmet breakfast. We stayed in the Carl Vrooman suite; had 3 rooms. One was "standard", with a comfortable bed, the second was a sitting room with Carl's desk and a couch; then a separate bath with clawfoot tub. Everything was very "period". It was quiet, clean, and easy access to restaurants in Bloomington. We bounced a dinner idea off Brian and he heartily agreed - and it was great! We really enjoyed our stay at Vrooman Mansion! It has an interesting history, has been well taken care of, and is a beautiful place to stay. All the employees were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We enjoyed a beautiful charcuterie board with fruit and cheese upon arrival, and loved our breakfast on the patio in the morning. It's conveniently located, in a beautiful neighborhood. Great place, great stay! Was just in town for the night for a concert but wanted something with character and style. And the mansion delivered. The staff was welcoming and the extras were well above a standard place to stay. Definitely can feel the history and fun touches of artifacts and photo albums of the history of the house add a lot. The breakfast was great and neighborhood is peaceful. Would def recommend and stay again! read more

We had our wedding here in 2002. The staff were very helpful and always reachable. The price was very reasonable. It was a unique experience in that myself and the wedding party got to get ready in one of the old bedroom suites. It felt very classy. Instead of walking "down the aisle" I got to descend the staircase. They were able to fit in the String quartet with no problems whatsoever. My vendors (flowers, etc) had no problems getting things set up and taken down. If you are like me and looking for a really unique place to get married, this is your place. read more

I am writing this review based on the events that I have attended here. I have never stayed over night here :) That being said, I have taught a cooking class here and catered on multiple occassions. The staff are attentive and know what they are doing. We have seen many weddings here, and the people are always so happy. Their Teddy Bear tea is on Tuesday from 5-8, I think :) read more

This is an amazing Bed and Breakfast!! I decided to book something different on our road trip to CA and so happy I did!! I encourage anyone interested a relaxing stay in an historic gorgeous house and surrounding property with 5 star breakfast and customer service...stay here!!! The owner Pam gave us a tour and history of the mansion when we got there and then was available if we needed anything..like wine glasses for a drink on the huge veranda that evening. It was a warm day but thankfully the mansion has been retrofitted for modern conveniences like beautiful bathrooms and a.c.. Water and other sodas were available directly from a frig in the kitchen and snacks and chocolates could be found throughout the mansion. The breakfast made by Pam was the best I have ever had at a Bed and Breakfast. I will try to add pictures although it won't do it justice. Love the Vrooman Mansion and hope to go back one day!! read more

What a magical place for a B&B. We were doing a campus tour of U of Il and ISU. My honey decided that he was going all out to make this special for our little girl who have never been to a B&B and her first college tour. If you are looking for a wedding venue that has charm, character and elegance you should stop now and call the Vrooman Mansion. We held my daughter's wedding there over Memorial Day weekend and it was phenomenal. The Grounds: The landscaping is lush and well-manicured. We had an outdoor wedding for about 90 people so the ceremony was on the grass. The grounds are large enough that we could also erect a 40x40 foot tent. Even after that there was room enough so guests could just wander. There is an outdoor fireplace and a small garden as well. All beautifully done and picture perfect. The Mansion: Historic with great character. Our family stayed in the mansion for the weekend which was great so we could all be together. There are five rooms in the mansion and they are all very nice. It is an old house so it creaks and there are not plugs every few feet etc. but again if charm and character are important to you then you can't go wrong. Picture claw foot tubs and gorgeous poster beds. Their maximum capacity for a wedding is about 100 and there is room in the main house to hold the ceremony indoors - it would be lovely as the bride could enter by descending down an absolutely stunning staircase. The Carriage House: This is a separate building on the grounds with a downstairs sitting room and half bath as well as a small kitchen (fridge, sink, and microwave - no stove). Beautifully appointed and cozy. The Carriage House suites are the equivalent of a Five Star hotel - gorgeous (and I mean gorgeous) bathrooms in each suite and lovely antiques throughout. The Staff: The owners Pam and Dana are amazing and the inn keeper Trish is fantastic. Every staff member we encountered was wonderful - they truly cared about you having a great experience. Trish also acted as a wedding coordinator on the wedding day and things ran beautifully. Breakfast is included with your stay and the food is incredible. Conclusion: Five Stars - location, charm and character, incredible staff, beautiful grounds. A charming and wonderful place for an intimate wedding. read more

If you want a charming and beautiful stay away from home, complete with amazing breakfast and wonderful hosts, GO TO THE VROOMAN MANSION! Here's our thank you note to the owners: To Dana, Pam, and all of the Vrooman hosts/hostesses, We just arrived home from a 4-hr blustery and white trip from Bloomington to Oak Park, IL. What a blizzard! It was an anxiety-provoking and nail-biting trek, but now that we're safe and sound, we can think back on our stay with you all and the Mansion. Our stay was by FAR the most luxurious and comfortable (and, might I add, delicious) B&B stay we've ever had. Not only do you own and maintain an amazing piece of history, but YOU guys, the people behind the operation, made it just spectacular. Everyone was so warm, inviting, accommodating and helpful during our entire stay. Thanks to Trish for welcoming us in on Friday night, to Kate for looking up IDOT updates on Sunday before our commute home, and to Brian for his help shoveling our car out of the snow. My husband and I stayed here a few weeks ago and really enjoyed our visit. We happened across this B&B by accident while searching online and were very glad we did! Walking thru this amazing mansion with the original fixtures and so beautifully kept ...it felt like we had gone back in time. Usually a place like this would be a museum with ropes up and signs saying don't touch. Instead, we were able to admire everything up close and enjoy the amazing detail wherever you looked. There are some different signs giving information and one of the owners showed us around and gave a little tour when we arrived as well. In the morning, we were really impressed by the complimentary breakfast. Instead of the usual fare set out on a sideboard, we were served by the owners at the original, elaborately carved dining table. Fruit salad topped with cream was followed by a souffle with bacon and handmade french toast type pastry squares which I'd never seen before. The owners were incredibly nice and relaxed and made us feel very welcome too. Basically, if you are ever in Bloomington, forget the cookie cutter hotels you find everywhere and try something well run and unique. The price was the same too when comparing to a lot of hotels in the area, you just get more. (This may sound over exuberant but we had a great time and we'd love this place to stay popular so we can go back again). read more

My friends and I, group of 5 in our late 20's, had a wonderful stay and a beautiful breakfast experience at the Vrooman Mansion. We arrived later than expected (10pm, rather than 8pm as agreed upon) but they were so kind to accommodate us through it all, we really do appreciate it. I arranged this visit for my friends visiting from Boston as a surprise and they didn't expect this kind of accommodation for the night since it was just a simple stopover between Chicago and St. Louis. When we arrived at 10pm, the neighborhood was dark and we had to park on the street. We had no problem with this but I think they were expecting a regular boring hotel so it definitely raised some eyebrows even before we stepped in. We found our host patiently waiting in the foyer and everything unfolded nicely after that, from our beautiful rooms, over the top amenities, to an amazingly delicious breakfast with other friendly patrons. The Vrooman Mansion is a wonderful property with unbelievable service that will make your stay as enjoyable and relaxing as it can be. It's definitely a necessary upgrade from the roadside hotel/motels for those that are hosting out-of-town visitors! We will be sure to book with them again if we are in the area! read more

The charm of this bed and breakfast is outstanding! From the attentive friendly staff to the awesome decor ( there is literally something to look at in every corner) to the history of the mansion...I can highly recommend this to history and bed and breakfast lovers! We stayed in Julia's room and it was as charming as can be! Extremely well decorated and clean. The bed was so comfortable could have stayed in it all day.Though only a radiator the heat it put out was enough to keep us comfy on this winter night! Soft fluffy robes are provided along with toiletries that smelled amazing! There are historic pieces of info everywhere including original photographs and documents. Breakfast was simply fantastic! Valentines Day breakfast were chocolate crepes with marsapone stuffing and topped with strawberries. The accompanying egg/potato dish entree was fabulous. Coffee, fresh orange juice and water kept being filled. The table was original to the house and decorated beautifully! We loved this place...we had fabulous stay and can recommend it without a doubt! read more

My fiance and I stayed here for a concert in Bloomington and Vrooman Mansion far exceeded our expectations. The house and the grounds are really beautiful and full of awesome bits of history. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and made us feel right at home. To top it off, the complimentary breakfast was incredible! Compliments to the lady who makes the souffles, and to Brian, the innkeeper who was always sure to ask us if we needed anything but was never intrusive. We stayed 2 nights and the staff and service were outstanding. The breakfast was great. The first day we had a grilled peach, soufflé, bacon, sausage and pancakes with a fruit compote. The second day we had a fruit mix, ham egg and cheese roll, bacon and waffles with bananas and Carmel drizzle. Both were served with water, coffee and orange juice. Both mornings we were able to eat outside on the patio. It's shaded and stays very cool. We had our 4 year old daughter with us and the staff were very kind to her and her needs. My four college friends and I celebrated 31 years of friendship at the Vrooman Mansion the weekend of October 23-25, 2015. We had the Carriage House to ourselves and it was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. We walked to the Vrooman Mansion to have the unbelievably delicious breakfast! The owners and employees went above and beyond the call of duty to make our three day stay enjoyable. They gave us a tour of the historic mansion and brought us warm desserts in the evening. The house is clean and has high-end furnishings and fixtures! I have stayed at a lot of BnBs and this one is probably the best! read more

We stayed here Christmas week, 7 days. It was fabulous! Quiet, gorgeous, filled with antiques, a player piano, even period clothing pieces. We were transported back to the 19th century. There were Christmas trees in EVERY room, decorated beautifully, so festive and charming. Upon arrival we had a tour and learned some of the history and then made ourselves at home. The breakfasts were generous and delicious with fresh fruits daily, an egg dish and French toast or crepe or other item. There were beverages and homemade cookies and treats available 24 hrs. We also toured the Davis mansion during our visit. I can't wait to return, the staff is great!!! read more

We had our small wedding of about 30 people at the Vrooman Mansion on August 2, 2014. They went above and beyond our expectations before, during, and after the wedding. Beforehand, Tricia answered questions via email right away, which really helped with the planning. The mansion itself is beautiful, so we were able to do our ceremony, pictures, and reception there. There are outdoor and indoor options for ceremonies, and they even switched us from outdoor to indoor at the last minute. The food and service were fantastic, and because we had a smaller wedding they were able to provide food so that we didn't have to worry about a caterer. They allowed us to bring in our own alcohol and some food, which helped keep costs down, and they took the time to set up the outside food and beverages we brought. After the wedding they got all of our personal belongings together for us, wrapped up our cake, and even took our gifts up to our wedding suite with a personalized note and gift from their staff as well. We would highly recommend the Vrooman Mansion to anyone planning a small intimate wedding in the area if you are looking for something simple, classic, and reasonably priced. read more

Absolutely fabulous.....people, place, service and food were far and above anything I could have imagined. My college roommates and I had the Carriage House to ourselves for our reunion weekend. The house included spacious gathering space in the kitchen, comfortable seating by the den's fireplace and beautifully decorated guest rooms for relaxation all contributed to our great weekend. Fantastic place! Stayed the weekend of Feb 7-8, 2014. We wanted a little more privacy for our wedding anniversary weekend, so we paid extra for a room in the carriage house. It was worth it! The carriage house has only two bedrooms, each with their own full bath, and a shared common area that includes a powder room, a kitchenette/eating area and living room with working fireplace. We chanced that the other bedroom would not be occupied that weekend and it wasn't! Had the place to ourselves! Was nice to stretch out in front of the fire and share a drink or two. The carriage house is a dozen yards away from the main building, which I thought would be a problem with eight inches of snow on the ground, but the pathway had already been scooped by the time we got there. One perk of staying at the carriage house, besides the privacy, is it offers off-street parking. There is also a screened-in back porch and an outdoor fireplace which would be great in summer. The breakfast next morning was delicious. Fresh fruit and yogurt for first course, and spinach soufflé, sausage and stuffed French toast for second. They also offer juice, tea, cocoa and hot coffee. The owners are very pleasant and even stopped by for a chat at breakfast to ask about our stay. We hope to be staying there again very soon. read more
