Watching the sunset while hearing the steady surf on the rocks behind us was memorable. Definitely worth making the time to visit.

"The Rez" is my favourite place to enjoy the day with my family…read more Offers a supervised freshwater beach, a playground, picnic tables and hiking trails. There is so much to do! There is a wide, gravel trail (wheelchair accessible just make sure someone able to push through- took grandma & loved it) going around the entire rez (3.4KM) but off this main gravel trail is 2 dozen trails (no official map, just have to look for the openings!) My favourite trail we call "beaver trail" - named because you pass a beaver dam! (have never seen a beaver but always have my camera ready...) To get to the beaver trail: Go clockwise. The opening is 3 minutes after you start on the gravel trail - its wide enough for 1 person so bring your carrier. Also, I've been temped to let my dogs off leash in these trails but one day I came across 2 poripines (they left us alone and we left them alone, no harm) but from then on will not let me doggies off leash (as the sign states lol) There are lots of beaches as well! To get to the best private beach people bring their poochies to: Go clockwise around trail. When you come to bridge take the trail to the right (along the water) There will be other small trails leading off but keep going straight and you come to a beautiful beach. Get out, enjoy and make your own family map of the trails you discover

After a disappointing day of checking out the food and beer scene during our cruise port stop in…read moreSaint John ... we had nothing left to do and decided to check this place out (especially since they also serve beer - some from Loyalist City Brewing which we could couldn't taste while visiting their brewery on Water St. just below Woodchucks since they don't have a taproom). This ended up being where we found the BEST beer suited to our tastes ... Trailway Seeing Citra (6% hazy NEIPA - best beer DH had all cruise anywhere) and Loyalist City Lupulus Interruptus (8.2% tasty DIPA - which I enjoyed immensely). They also had a $25 cruise special for a 45 minute axe throwing session that included a 20 oz. British pint of any beer on tap. What could be wrong with that?!?! We enjoyed it all so much that we ended up staying at this place for over 4 hours drinking the awesome beer (but they do also serve wine and other mixed drinks) ... and for an additional 1.5 hour session of axe throwing. We left Saint John vowing to try axe throwing when we get home ... but just hope there's also good beer there as well!

They pick you up directly at the cruise terminal. We got lucky & were the only ones so it turned into a private tour of 3 adults & 2 twelve year olds. The owner, Deanna is a retired teacher & rattled off all kinds of local history on our 30 minute ride to Dipper Harbor. Matthew the instructor was very patient with the kiddos & very helpful teaching us how to use the rudder since none of us had gone sea kayaking before. They were also kind enough to add a stop to Tim Hortons & a scenic drive & overlook of the Reversing Falls. They are a small operation so must book over the phone. Across the street from Saint John City Market is King's Square. Surprisingly there is no website…read morededicated to it to learn more. It was a lovely park to walk around and sit for a bit. The square was named for King George III and granted to the city of Saint John by Royal Charter in 1785. In the early years, the grounds were the site for such public uses such as oxen roasts, fireworks displays, militia parades, cricket games, public wells, a slaughter house and agricultural fairs. It was developed into a park in 1844 and the current design of paths was laid out. The bandstand in the middle of the square was designed and built in 1908 for the city coronet band by Neil Brodie, a local architect. One year later, it was donated to the city of Saint John in the name of King Edward VII of England. There are many monuments and statues scattered throughout the square.

We took a cruise excursion that took us here first thing off the boat, unfortunately nothing was reversing so it was like ok a big body of water and a paper mill. We went about our tour and on the way back to the ship, I guess we had some extra time, so we went back by the falls. This time, it was reversing!! Definitely a very unique thing to see. Keep your eyes open for cute little sea animals (seals, otters, etc).

The pulp mill in the pictures has been set up to be green. It emits almost no smell and cleans the water before it goes back into the harbor. Depending on the number of tour buses, this can be one of your busiest stops. I suggest taking a video each visit so you can really see the difference between the tides.
