Many assurances were given regarding experience, knowledge and professional handling of sales . When an "on site" estate sale was not possible, we were assured that the company had provision for off site sales and we paid $995 for the transport of the items to their NC facility. From that time forward, nothing transpired as we'd been led to expect based on written contract and written and verbal assurances. Items were not inventoried immediately as promised, communication was sporadic and limited, and when we pressed for answers, we were met with excuses and passive aggressive accusations. Even when we expressed patience with the owner's spouse's health issues and later facility woes, we were not communicated with proactively to enable us to make informed decisions along the way. Ultimately, the funds generated were a pitiful reflection of the items conveyed. We trusted this company based on referral and their "history" in business, but encountered very poor results and even worse communication. Unless you are resigned to pennies on the dollar and a very unpleasant experience, you'd be better served giving away your belongings and saving yourself the frustration of attempting to deal with them. If there is any response to this review, it will no doubt predictably align with what we have experienced throughout our 14 months of dealing with this company. Questions ignored selectively or viewed as a personal affront, clear accounting avoided, and any expressed issues met with passive aggressive, condescending rewriting of facts.

Our items were picked up and taken away per agreement, and we paid to have this done. From that point forward, the communication nightmare began. We were told of a health crisis that the family had to deal with, and following that (months later) was a flood that sent the business into chaos. We were patient and empathetic towards the challenges they were dealing with, though we only learned of these "challenges" when we would seek information regarding the status of the process. (no proactive communication received). We signed a contract that was not adhered to by Carriage House Estate Sales. Our requests for supporting sales data were ignored, emails often went unanswered, and when we did receive a response, it was filled with sarcasm and drama, rarely addressing our specific questions. Our ultimate dissatisfaction with this company was not the paltry proceeds from the sale of goods consigned with them, but rather the way we were treated when we sought timely answers in good faith. Reasonable questions were met with silence, avoidance, passive aggressive excuses and not so subtle blame shifting. What seemed rather remarkable was that we were expected to understand every hardship the company endured, but the company never cared about our needs as their customer. Treating your customer as a burden is an inexcusable business practice! Perhaps this company still trades on a reputation established in past days. What we encountered was nothing we could recommend to those looking for an honest and straightforward process.

The problem came in when Nancy decided to be one of the bad estate sale customers and cheat when it came time to take a number. She knew her place and number in line but reached up to take a number prior to her turn. Surely nothing inside the sale could be enough to show estate sale customers that for Nancy Baldwin disgracing herself and her company was worth it. Be a better person Nancy.
