There is a bit of everything here from modern fishing rods to Georgian furniture. The overall feeling is of a shop that has been there for so long that it has sort of collected or inherited its stock and perhaps the owner just opens the place up every day because that's what he has done for the last 40 years....not so though! Harold's Bazaar has been in situ for a mere 2 years and this fact alone makes it worth wandering in to.

In fact, I don't think you need to be an enthusiast in anyway to understand the allure of all these mystical trinkets. The selection is remarkable for such a small shop, though I'm no expert, and trawling through the dishes of coins really rouses the historian in you. Not that they shop here often mind, it's rather too posh for that, but it's the kind of place it is. A proper family jewellers, with father and daughters on staff and expert advice on hand. In the first store we went to, Ken was amazing! He showed us silver cups from 1750 and he described how they would have been made by candlelight. His description was so evocative of their history, he just bought a piece of inanimate object alive! Seriously- he needs to have his own TV show! I also spotted some authentic Victorian jet jewelry from the 1860s (Queen Victoria made it famous this stone famous in her mourning for Albert, and Ken told us the history of his elder brother too!) However please note that I know absolutely nothing about antiques and all these mis matched garish bits of glass are probably worth a fortune to classier folks than me. The nice bits as far as I can see (and therefore probably worth very little indeed) are the silver bits and pieces - wee spoons and jars. Much to my delight the selection of vintage men's jewelry in store was huge! I never see this level of estate jewelry in the states. I tried on many beautiful rings before deciding on a gorgeous 18k gold cats-eye cabochon ring, the price was reasonable and the service was top notch. I will definitely return on my next visit to this fine city. Also the location of this shop is incredible, there are multiple estate jewelry shops, merchants and restaurants, it's definitely worth checking out.

They want you to know that they're a shop, that sells watches. Wouldn't it be so great if all shops were equally candid about their wares? There would be a lot more places called Crap Shop, but we'd all be better off for it, I think. Anyway, this watch shop happens to be pretty great. The space is really small, but there are literally watches everywhere, and they're good ones. They sell a wide variety of name brand watches like Fossil, Diesel, DKNY, Tommy Hilfigger, Anne Klein, the list goes on. They do repairs and can add or remove links from watch bands quickly and cheaply.

The Watch Shop may not have a fancy name or elegant decor, but it is conveniently located in the Ilac Centre and really is good, timely, and cheap. And friendly, too. Just what I look for when I need a new watch battery. (I can't speak to purchasing a watch here - although they look to have quite a range, as well as a number of watch bands.) My husband and I have had them replace batteries in several of our watches (of varying brands and value) and are satisfied repeat customers. The last time we were in, I was just asking the jeweller when I should pick up my watch, as she changed my battery and handed it back to me with a smile. I love that a place that fixes timepieces values MY time. I may not be able to turn back the clock, but I will be turning to The Watch Shop time after time(!).
