I visited Tim's Baseball Card Shop in person, and it absolutely lives up to its reputation. This is a real card shop for real collectors. Tim is knowledgeable, approachable, and clearly passionate about the hobby--no pressure, no attitude, just straight talk and fairness. The shop is well organized with a great mix of vintage and modern cards, and the pricing is reasonable and transparent. Tim took the time to talk cards, answer questions, and make sure I walked out with exactly what I was looking for. That kind of service is getting rare. If you're tired of overhyped shops or sellers who don't know their inventory, this place is a breath of fresh air. My 10-year-old is baseball obsessed and recently got his first signed card in a random pack of Topps baseball cards. Jose Canseco, baby! My son has described the moment he came across the signed card as maybe "the best moment of his life" and continues to stress how rare it is to get a signed card in a pack of Topps. I don't know if that is true, but it's charming. He also told me that he opened the pack in the shop and whoever was working at the time told him that he was super lucky and gave him a heavy duty plastic case to put his special card in for free. My guess is that a plastic card cover costs less than a dollar, but the interaction and kindness of the worker made me feel compelled to leave a review. Baseball is magical and I love the community it inspires. My son is asleep with his Jose Canseco card (lol) and we definitely will be back, and thank you to that nice employee. read more

My friend got a insane pull there! - Few things to consider - Their hours are good, but if they maybe closed at 4:30 or 5:00 instead of 4:00 that would be AMAZING because of school and such. - Always restocking - Great care with purchased cards: ex: card sleeve, etc. 10/10 5 star great place! read more

Myself and a couple of my buddies were in Chicago for the National Sports Cards Convention and before our 16 hour drive back home we decided to check out a few locations near by. We happened to drive by this location and decided to take a quick look. It is a small local business with a limited selection but the owner has alot of knowledge and is a true collector himself. I just read an article by Upper Deck that Tim and his card shop was featured in a super bowl commercial back in 2010 as he was chosen by Miller to help support the small businesses. Thank you to Tim and his mother for the restaurant recommendations and places to check out, they were spot on. If your visiting from out of state and your a card collector I highly recommend you make a visit to this place. Tim and his mother were the kindest people we met during our visit to Chicago and they were a pleasure to speak with, they will give you some great recommendations for restaurants if your not a local too. Location hmmm?, it is a tiny tiny little shop! There's not much to it and he doesn't have a lot out in his cases! The highest dollar card I saw was $10 He must have stuff somewhere else? I was pretty geeked up about going to a card shop and maybe picking up a few cards or a box, an auto, or maybe a throw back Jersey something. I have a lot of cards I have been wanting to get rid of for a while. While there are a lot, they're not really in high demand, and it's been hard to find a place interested in buying them. But when I called Tim's, whoever I talked to said to bring them all in. When I came, I came with multiple large boxes. I brought everything in in multiple trips while the people behind the counter ate pizza and mostly didn't acknowledge me. I had to stand around for 15 minutes even though there were only a couple of other people in the store. When someone behind the counter finally bothered to speak to me, he took one look in one box, said they didn't want anything I had. I can't complain based on not being able to sell the cards, because as I said, I know they're not in high demand. But being told to bring them in, going to some effort to do it, and then being treated so incredibly rudely was not at all cool. My advice: find a shop where the people there will treat you with some respect and courtesy. This shop isn't it. read more

Wow - looking through these reviews, it's either feast or famine at Tim's store. Well, even though things didn't go exactly as I had hoped, my review is part of the "feast group". Here's what my experience was like... I brought three memorabilia items to his store as he does advertise that he sells memorabilia. He looked at the items and said that for the most part, he doesn't buy them. The two reasons he gave pertained to potential authenticity issues and the fact that what I had were mostly "one-off" type items that are specific to certain collectors. Not what I wanted to hear, but I could totally appreciate and understand his logic. He did take the time to look into an app that provides outcomes of recent online sales and identified 2 of my 3 items through those means along with recent prices. He ended up making me an offer that was less than what I was shooting for, but after some deliberation, I accepted it. I might have done better elsewhere, but who knows how long it might have taken me to find a better offer and how much more would it have been for? Sometimes you have to cut your losses. The bottom line here is that Tim did take some time to look into these items and made me an offer on two of them based upon what he felt was doable for him. No bs or con jobs - I could have stepped away at any moment. He was straight forward, honest and helpful. I much prefer that approach than the collector shop people who tell you that your stuff is a pile of junk, but the stuff that they have for sale is pristine - even though it's the same stuff! And as for the low-key appearance of the store, so what??? I used to trade cards out of a shoebox clamped onto my bicycle - do you really need much more? read more

Stopped by Tim's Baseball Card Shop on a whim. It's what you'd expect from a sports card shop: glass cases with cards and boxes displayed, posters, information, the whole bit. What really makes this a 5 star place is Tim. I hadn't purchased a pack of baseball cards since I was about 9, and easily could have stood in the shop for 5 minutes, shrugged my shoulders, walked out the door, and forgot about it. However, Tim was very friendly, has a passion for collecting, and is willing to talk about the differences in product to a novice like me. I left with a box of cards under my arm, and hints of the excitement I had as a young collector. Even though Tim's is a bit out of the way for me (25 minute drive) it's certainly worth the trip. read more

Tim is the best. I really like this place. Stopped by yesterday to get some cards. I lost my job so I had not bought anything for a while but Tim still remembered me. My son and I go to Tim's about every other week. We love the time, attention, and personal relationship that we get with Tim and his mom. We talk all the time how happy we are that there's a place like Tim's for us to go to so we can collect cards together in a way that's so much more meaningful than ordering on Amazon. He has a great variety of products, including all of the latest cards, as well as a good selection of vintage single cards. But the draw is the personal touch -- his recommendations, conversations, etc. As someone who collected baseball cards as a kid, it makes me so happy to take my son to Tim's to further his love for collecting. read more

I walked in on a Saturday afternoon with my wife. There was a man on the computer who never looked up. I stood there for a while as he IM'd and finally I asked if he had any Steeler's cards. He mumbled something negative never looking at me. I left. As soon as we got out of the door he got out of the chair and turned the sign to "closed" and locked the door. What a snob! For real. I walked in he said hi and not another word for 15 min. It was me and one other person (a regular I guess) When he left he finally asked me if he could help me. I asked if he would be interested in trading and he said no. Reason it *****up his books. He backed that up with "I only buy cards in the $50 to $100 range" The sign out front clearly states Buy, Sell & Trade... My guess is he is too good for the average collector. He had a lot of boxes my husband likes - all the good new packs. My husband was also quick to point out a football collection that he would need for his birthday. Tim was really sweet and knowledgeable. Not pushy, but willing to help us with anything we needed. I really liked the store, but it's a mess. Tim can you please update your store? Maybe it was just the time of year, but the shop didn't seem to have much product. The shop was a little smaller than I expected. I had really high hopes. I came in ready to buy a few boxes and pre-order a case or two, but I only saw one 2013 football box in the store. He wasn't sure when he would be getting new product, though he did try to look it up for me on his phone. I ended up leaving empty handed. I ordered 3 cases of football cards later that night online from a different retailer ($2500) and purchased another $300 in singles throughout the week. It's too bad because I prefer supporting local business's...Especially card shops! I'm not sure if I was just spoiled from my old shop or just caught this shop in their off-season. Tim and the lady who was there with him both seem like pretty genuine and nice people. I will probably try the shop again 'in-season' to see what it's like. read more

I'm starting collecting again and looking for 50's and 60's rookies in mint near mint condition. I told them my situation and I wanted to buy some cards today. After being ignored for about 15 minutes - Tim was not helpful at all, he actually turned down an offer without a counter offer for a bench rookie. I would have bought it full price but he put it back in the case so fast - he really treated me like I was wasting his time. Bad move I had a 1000 bucks to spend and probably 10 times that this year for cards. I will never waste my time with his shop again and I recommend you don't either. I've been to the other shops in the city and they are much friendlier and helpful. What a dummy you are Tim, you blew a lot of money. read more
