Tim was booked for my 5 year-old's birthday party after seeing him at another party about 2 years earlier, and my daughter was STILL excited to do it all again this time as a hostess. He was on time, easy to work with, very friendly and communicated very well. Tim was everything we hoped he would be and more. He was sooooo good with the kids (of all ages). The trailer is all clean & organized, up to date, and air-conditioned. He took 14 kids in there on a hot June day and had them all rocking and sifting and just really into it for over an hour. And it was great for the parents too because it was just rockin' cool stuff, and it was quality time with your child as you see in the photos. And some parents preferred to sit in their chairs and let Tim take over for 90 minutes which was nice for parents, too! He even accommodated some sibling pairs on the same stations which worked out great. And it is easy for the kids to do it on their own, which I think is part of why they love it so much. At the end of the "dig", the birthday girl got to crack open her own geode and this is where Tim was at his best. She must have hit that rock 50 times and kept at it and Tim was so good at encouraging her, explaining safety protocols, making her laugh and keeping all the kids' interest while doing so. I teach high school social studies. There is a sound that teachers strive for, like a hum or buzz of energetic language, excitement, discovery, and learning, and I heard that hum for over an hour. Tim definitely could have been a public school teacher had he been crazy enough to try. We will be booking him again in 3 years when my 2 year-old turns 5. We celebrated my rock-loving daughter's 11th birthday party by having Tim's Gems come to our home. We had 10 kids that ranged in age from 5 to 12 and every single one of them LOVED this. Tim was PHENOMENAL. He was polite, great with the kids, excited, and full of fun knowledge. His gem truck is awesome - very neat and clean. Super clean and with air conditioning. Each kid gets a ton of rocks, crystals, shark teeth, arrows, coral, etc. We had kids ranging from 8 years old to 5 and every one of them had a great time sifting the sand and asking more and more questions about the crystals they found. It was a HUGE hit with both kids and their parents. The mobile mine itself is air conditioned, clean and is outfitted with running water and individual sifting stations for the kids. They will find all sorts of treasures in the process - gems, rocks, shark teeth, arrowheads, fossils. The arrowheads can then be made into necklaces. Tim's gems is a unique experience- a mobile mining flume where kids can learn about gems and fossils while they mine for them! We first went mining with tim at the Frederick fair, and then we booked him for our daughters birthday party. Kids from 2-8 yrs old all had an amazing time- they all got bags full of interesting treasure and Tim even made them necklaces from their arrowheads they found! My daughter got to break a geode since it was her birthday- she loved it! The trailer is also amazing- heated, with flumes running along the sides, and stations for each kid (it can fit up to fifteen kids I think)... Tim is very knowledgeable, great with the kids and very professional. We had a lot of adults at the party wanting to go in and mine when they saw how much fun the kids were having! So, here's the thing, I have actually never written a review. After my son's gemstone mining birthday party yesterday, I couldn't wait to sit down and write something. This was absolutely, hands down, the most incredible experience we have ever had. I had 21 kids present and there was not one un-interested kiddo in the group. Their ages ranged from 3-8 years old, but even the adults were in awe. Tim was amazing and took his time to personally interact with each child. His trailer was clean, organized, and completely kid friendly. He was professional, friendly, and best of all, AFFORDABLE. You can tell he completely loves what he's doing and the kids fed off of his excitement. I've had phone calls from almost all of the kid's parents saying their child can't stop talking about how much fun they had.
