Back in 2023, I attended a lively event hosted at Tinker House Events in the heart of downtown Indy. It was one of the most memorable Pride events I've been to presented by Indy Pride due to the unique venue and atmosphere. This past Wednesday, I had another opportunity to visit Tinker House for a Sound Bath presented by BFF Indy. It was a very different experience as the intention was a more meditative one opposed to a party with a DJ the last time I was there. It was still daylight when I arrived and mostly empty which made it convenient and ideal to explore the bridal suite and take pictures of the venue without any obstructions. The Sound Bath was held on the dance floor with lots of natural light surrounding us. I love the idea of the Sound Bath in this fun space. Although, I've had them in the past at a yoga studio which was MUCH quieter. My constructive criticism is that there is too much noise coming from the traffic outside (especially because this was at 5pm during rush hour) even on the second story of the building to relax and get the full benefits of a Sound Bath. There were no blankets, pillows or yoga mats either which isn't necessarily the responsibility of Tinker House but still something to be noted for future events. BFF Indy should have given attendees a heads up to bring their own supplies because sitting on a hard wood floor where people dance and walk on with shoes that have just been outside downtown is rather off putting and took away from the overall experience. The facilitator did an amazing job all things considered. I will go back for events in the future just not if they are supposed to be relaxing. Tinker House is ideal for social gatherings like weddings and parties. The decor is aesthetically appealing and very well thought out. There is a ambient bar/lounge on the first floor in addition to the one upstairs. There is limited parking in front of the building and a coffee shop next door. read more

I had the opportunity to experience Tinker House Events last evening during the awards event for Indy Shorts International Film Festival. I'd scouted Tinker House early. As a wheelchair user, accessibility is a huge issue for me and I'm always checking it early for most events whenever possible. I've had too many experiences of people saying "this is accessible" only to get there and find out it's not. First off, I was embarrassed to not realize this is a fully functional building. I'd never gone to Provider because I'd assumed it was some inaccessible hole-in-the-wall. Boy, I was wrong. So, this is a 3-story building. Provider is on the main floor. Tinker House Events is on the second floor. BlackInk takes the 3rd floor. It looks like they all have some common ground around the building. There's also a fantastic porch area off the main floor and a small but appealing deck on the second floor that offers amazing views. Tinker House Events is an event space that can accommodate around 200 people or 230 if standing. This event had under 200, though was probably fairly close (I say this knowing how many filmmakers were in town). Parking is mentioned in a lot of reviews. I'll assume it has been improved. It's not flawless (and probably is the main venue weakness), but I found it quite workable and I was ecstatic to see two accessible parking spots clearly marked. The entrance is pretty well marked. There's an elevator that is MUCH better than I would expect in a mostly industrial building. Tinker describes their venue as "industrial chic" and that definitely fits. The event space is mostly open concept. There's a bar area (due to their license, alcohol is available but handled by them). There's a side room that is likely great for wedding parties and/or event speakers. As a speaker, I loved the acoustics here. I was a presenter last night and loved the set-up and everything was handled well. Who was the event coordinator for the night? She was outstanding. She was friendly, helpful, always observing everything, and simply aware. When some extra seats were needed, she was on it. When a different kind of stand was needed for speakers, she was on it. Everything that happened was handled well. If I ever get married (I'm not), I want this person managing everything. I did not use the restrooms and can't speak to their accessibility. Tables were great. Staff members were great. Bartenders were great. This was just a really well run event. The space did get a bit hot, though it does have air conditioning. It's also worth noting that the surrounding King Park neighborhood is still up-and-coming. While the views are amazing, there's definitely still some challenges in the surrounding neighborhood. I live in a similar neighborhood that I absolutely love, however, it could be an issue if parking starts to overflow. That said, it seems somewhat set apart and I always felt safe here. This was a top-notch event and would be a great space for a small to moderate-sized wedding or corporate/special event. Indy Shorts was operating under a "camp" theme this year and that rustic theme fit perfectly in this space. read more

My buddy had his wedding here and coming from the perspective of a groomsman this was a great place to have a wedding/reception. It was quick and easy to have the ceremony upstairs followed by a cocktail hour downstairs and reception back upstairs. Additionally the stay went above and beyond to make sure everyone, especially us in the wedding felt well taken care of. Such a cute rustic place to celebrate any occasion! Will say there were weddings the night before and after his and it was a little complicated getting everything in and out. Probably poor communication on the grooms part but there is not a ton of space to stage decorations and such. read more

I got to check out this location recently for a charity event. Beautiful event space for formal and informal gatherings. Located above Provider in a gorgeous historic building, the event center has a ton of well-lit space. There's even an outdoor patio on the south side of the building which overlooks the parking area. On the north side, there's an exquisite bar which was staffed by some seriously talented mixologists! Although the space is on the second floor, it's accessible by both a grand staircase as well as an elevator. The minor downfalls: the parking lot seemed somewhat small in relationship to the capacity of guests it could hold, Also, the event I attended had many more guests than seating and tables, and the heavy hors doeuvres ran out in a short period of time. Full disclosure: I have no idea if TH provided the apps or if it was a catering company. The last two aforementioned issues may have been related to the event planner and NOT TH, these are only observations on my part. Again; the space itself is gorgeous though, and Provider downstairs is just as ornate. I'll be back to check out their coffee soon! read more

I am the Director of Events at Heartland Film, and we hosted our 2023 Indy Shorts International Film Festival at Tinker House Events. I don't have enough good things to say about Miranda and the owners of the space! As an organization that hosts events throughout the city, this team was one of the most enjoyable to work with that I've ever experienced. Miranda is responsive, engaged, welcoming and professional. The space fit our Summer Camp theme perfectly, and they allowed us to customize the space with our decor. They even offered to add new hooks into their ceiling beams for us if we wanted! On the day of the event, the bar and event staff were friendly and efficient. The drinks are great and reasonably priced. Our caterers even said this is their favorite space to come serve at! We utilized the in-house tech and both projector screens, which functioned well for us. I'd love to return here for a future event! read more

Parking is a small challenge but she gave us ample notice so we were able to include instructions in all communication as well as announcements during the event. Although I had been to Provider (the coffee shop on the first floor), I had never made it to Tinker house events until last Friday. The space was quite large and very well done. It had an industrial feel with warmth added through little touches of lights, a photo wall and a nice bar area. They had a nice range of choices for the bar from wine and beers to cocktails. I tried the cosmopolitan, and it was great! The only thing to keep in mind is that the parking lot is built more for the size of business they get at the coffee shop. If you're attending a large event, I would plan to park down the street and walk. I would definitely be interested in this space for my own event. read more

We even had to reschedule it once due to weather at almost the last minute, and they were super gracious and accommodating. They even called the caterer and took care of that for us. We fell in love with this venue because of its modern yet industrial look. There are tons of gorgeous photo ops throughout the building including a velvet vintage couch, a metallic copper and green painting that covers an entire wall, a lit up circle couch mounted to the wall, a deck overlooking the skyline of Indy, and the absolutely gorgeous lit bar - the list goes on. And it is very intimate with string lights on the pillars and ambient lighting at the bar. Once we started communicating with Tinker House we were placed in the hands of Marin, a wedding coordinator working with the venue. She seriously saved us and kept everything together. Because she was so awesome, we decided to pay her the $500 fee to hire her as our day of wedding coordinator. For the venue itself we ended up paying around $7,000. I only include this because its hard to find information like this in reviews and we don't mind being straight forward. Everything went smoothly through planning and we didn't really have any issues. We did find it odd that after paying so much for the venue they chose to charge us $100 for the use of their ring arch after we had seen it in the background as the venue's decor in so many other couples photos. But they provided other decor such as easels for free. The week of the wedding we had a final meeting with Marin where she informed us that she actually won't be able to be there. She had another coordinator sit in on the meeting - Alle. I was refunded $200 out of the $500 I had paid for this service. Alle was amazing at decorating the venue - by herself I might add! When we arrived I did notice that the linens we had ordered in dark green and of regular material were actually light green and satin. I asked about it and was informed they didn't have the color I had ordered and they had ordered these instead. They didn't match quite like I had expected and it would have been nice to have a heads up prior. Like I mentioned before, Alle was all alone in decorating, setting up, working with vendors, and keeping us on schedule. While this is not her fault but perhaps the venues for not giving her help, we did have some issues with timing throughout the day. Our First Look started around 30 minutes late and the photos throughout the day were all moved back causing us to miss A LOT of family photos that we are pretty bummed about. Also, the ceremony was started late and our officiant actually informed us that the family is not sitting in the aisle chairs as they were supposed to - luckily he fixed it for us. The lighting in the evening hours coming through all of the windows made for a beautiful scene - our photos are gorgeous! We did ask for our laptop to be set up to the side for a video recording for grandparents that couldn't make the wedding. I looked over at one point of the ceremony to see a bartender holding my MacBook with one hand behind the groom. The entire video is garbage. The frame is at a 45 degree angle, shaking the entire time, and I am not in the video at all because it is pointed at the grooms back. This man is standing in every single photo of us at the alter - looking bored and annoyed. Previously Marin had plans to set up a barrel near the alter to set the laptop on, so I am not sure why there was a change. After the ceremony, Alle left for someone else that we had not previously met to take over for the reception. While this woman was very helpful with keeping us on task, we had some issues from here on. After talking with her for awhile we found out she was actually a bartender with no previous coordinating experience. Our cake cutting was awkward because we weren't provided with a knife, plate, or anything. So we had to go to the bar to get one. Our "first dances" were also a bit awkward because instead of simply turning down the volume to fade out the music they abruptly just cut the music making it really unnatural for those dancing. Before Alle left we made a list of items that I would like to go with those taking our gifts, items that I agreed could be thrown away, and items that I would like to take. We only got some of the items we asked to be taken with those who had the gifts. And we didn't get but one of the items we wanted to take with us. I assume the items had been thrown away. Regardless, this venue is amazing and our wedding was everything we wanted and we wouldn't have picked a different venue. Hotel Tango (required bar service) provided excellent drinks, even though we didn't meet the bar minimum and had to pay $600 more than the tab for absolutely nothing in return (as we agreed). The list of dinner vendors you can chose from is well thought out and you really can't go wrong with any of them. The cabaret style seating with a family style head table worked perfectly. I would definitely recommend Tinker House but can't recommend the day of coordinating services. I think you'd be better off hiring someone from outside, maybe with more experience. read more

This was my first time coming here and it was so cute! Came here for a wedding and it was a perfect spot for it. The venue itself was perfect. The setup was splendid. They did have a bar as well with amazing bartenders! The best part is if you are needing a pick me up during the wedding, you can go downstairs where the coffee shop is and get yourself an amazing cup of coffee! read more

So I have been to the coffee shop at the bottom of this event space several times but never had a reason to go to the event space until a FD$ Event I was invited to. It is such a great event space. There were maybe 10 booths, lots of tables DJ, food table and a bar. So plenty of space. It wasn't hot even with all the people that were there. The music sounded great as well. So if planning an event totally recommend. Oh yeh and there is tons of parking. read more

What a lovely upscale venue with industrial vibe over looking the Indianapolis skyline. The second floor is suitable for weddings and corporate events. There is a fantastic bar with trendy interesting lighting. The brick walls and open beams bring out the downtown history of this old warehouse. There are a couple of smaller rooms adjacent to the larger room. The restroom facilities are nice and pristine also with an industrial look. There is a small outdoor deck decorated with lights and overlooks the city that is very inviting. Prices vary but generally around $5000 for a Saturday night. Parking is limited to 52 spots (but probably closer to 45 after staff. There is some street parking but not ideal and the area was dark at night. We enjoyed our time there and the staff is friendly and accommodating. read more

The location is really close to downtown and plenty of parking. Miranda and her team were flawless and our experience could not have gone better. Tinker House is a great addition to the ever-growing 16th Street area of the near-north downtown neighborhood. I experienced this event space as an attendee of an event, so I don't have any experience with the staff in setting up an event so I can't comment on that. However, as a guest, I was very impressed. The exposed brick is on trend right now, the rustic industrialized that's all the craze right now also shines through. There is an elevator so the event is accessible. The downstairs area is a nice little space with tables and chairs. I didn't get to check out much more than that. Note for the biz: - parking is an issue. If you expect to have an average-sized event with a normal amount of attendees, the lot will fill up quickly Other than the parking, it's a great space and will definitely recommend this place to those looking to find an event space in an up-and-coming neighborhood! read more

What a fantastic new venue in downtown Indy. This old warehouse is now home to Hotel Tango Distillery on the first floor and a rentable second floor for events like weddings, corporate events, etc. There is exposed brick, bountiful windows for natural lighting, hardwood floors, large pillars throughout the open space, a large bar with edison lights and a sliding ladder, plus a beautiful bathroom and cozy private room (green room/bridal suite). There is also a private parking lot with extra grass parking across the street and a spacious veranda on the second floor. This would be the perfect place to have a wedding or reception. It's perfectly located just N of downtown at Lewis St. and 16th St. near the Monon. read more

Really cute place! I came here for a work seminar and having the venue upstairs away from the coffee shop is perfect. The only thing I didn't care for was parking. The lot is small and most of us had to park in the grass across from the building. But I have been here previously for events with yelp and it's amazing how they've turned this place into a great venue! read more

Tinker House Events is the perfect place to host an event. We held a networking event there, but the space is beautiful, and it would also be an excellent place for a wedding! The rental rates are reasonable, and because the room is so beautiful, you do not need to do much decorating. There is also plenty of parking and even a balcony for use during warmer weather. The event went so smoothly, and our guests had a great time. I loved the staff as well. Miranda was incredibly easy to work with throughout the planning process. Valerie was the best bartender ever. From the need to reschedule due to Covid restrictions, to help in finding a caterer, to planning a bar menu and event that fit our vibe, the customer service from Molly and Ally was outstanding. This place is gorgeous! Love that they are more than just a wedding venue and that they really care about making your event special for any occasion. They have a projector and massive screen that works great for staff retreats, presentations and anything where you would need internet! The staff are amazing and super helpful! This is a great event space in a neighborhood that doesn't have many spaces of this type. The restored factory, urban chic event venue is pretty widespread downtown and on the southside, but near as I know, Tinker House is the first of it's kind in the King Park area. The upstairs is wide open and gorgeous for any type of event, and though it can get a bit stuffy in the summer, windows can be opened and there's a large upstairs balcony to get some air. It's easy to see and hear from any seat in the house, a challenge in some older buildings with poorly placed columns, and there's an awesome bar upstairs for serving drinks that looks like it has the ability to distill in house. It's been said before, but parking will be a concern for larger events in the space. It's easily rectified by adding a bit of paved angle parking along the side of Lewis Street, but I hope it's done wisely, so as not to disrupt the greenery around the Monon instead of adding more gravel or asphalt without a scape. I'm glad to see an old industrial building converted into something other than luxury loft apartments or coworking space for once. Innovative use of the buildings in this area, with long histories but strong guts, is necessary for it to keep its vitality. read more

I'm just cutting right to it. No matter how nice the space is, parking is a huge issue. I came for a yoga class, and even tho I arrived plenty early, the parking lot was full. The only available parking to me was nearly 2 blocks away, down a dark road. As a trauma survivor, there is no way that I will walk 2 blocks at night in this area. I think it's great that there are such efforts to fix this area up. But the reality is that it is NOT a safe area. Especially after dark. I would attend an event here during daylight hours. But I won't ever go back after dark. read more
