    Georgia's Own Credit Union

    Georgia's Own Credit Union

Where do I begin? I…read morewas formerly with Thrift Credit Union and I had a special account with Thrift that was considered to be a lifetime account. Even without a balance my account would never close. The account also came with many other special privileges. Well... Georgia's Own bought out Thrift Credit Union. Everything was fine for the first couple of years. I only had a savings account at this time. The trouble began when I decided to open up a checking account. The Georgia's Own representative who opened up my checking account decided to close the savings that came with all the special privileges and open up a 'different savings' that were without those privileges. She or he never let me know that they would close the savings. I found out the savings was closed and had been reopened when I called and spoke to several GA Own representatives who could not longer see the notes on my savings account detailing the original agreement I had with Thrift that Georgia's Own had previously told me they would honor. So I opened up the checking account and Georgia's own decided to change the account to an account with a monthly fee without telling me. I started to see $5.95 debits in my account every month. So I called Georgia's Own credit union and I spoke with a manager who was very rude. She said that I had a 'Perks' Account or something similar and that they had changed my account (she admitted this was without my knowledge) about four months prior. (I admit I should have kept a closer eye on the account to catch this but you never think a Credit Union would do this). I demanded she change my account right back and refund the money I had paid for the account because it was not with my consent. She reluctantly did this. Fast Forward.... I started to notice that I was being charged more and more in overdraft fees and I couldn't understand why because before I make any charge I religiously pull up the GA Own's app on my Galaxy to check my balance .It takes a matter of a few seconds and the money was always there. But suddenly I would have three or four overdraft fees of $33.00 each out of nowhere. A month later. Someone would go back and place these overdrafts weeks after the time had passed. I found myself constantly on the phone with Georgia's Own trying to figure out why this had happened. I have three bank accounts with three institutions. GA's own is not my main account so I only keep a certain amount of money in the account. However, I would not overdraft because I can simply use the money in my main account. If the money was not there I would see it and simply transfer in more money. So I started to watch my account very closely. Every transaction I would watch to see how it was being posted. HERE'S WHAT I FOUND... GA's Own had started to hold certain transactions in a pending status for a very long time. You think that when you use your debit card the transactions post immediately. (These weren't paper check transactions. I don't write checks. Every transaction is with my debit card). But I was wrong. GA's Own would keep certain transactions pending and pending and often they would not be reflected in my available balance. This is the first time I've noticed that they do this. I had not noticed this previously and it seems to be something they've just started. ALSO, I noticed that my transactions were being restructured and re-ordered to cause an overdraft or multiple overdrafts. For instance, a transaction I made on, let's say January the 5th, would be posted on the 5th down in my transaction log. But then I would see it moved entirely to another date - For instance the transaction would be moved to January 11th. When the account at that time had a different balance. So now I've caught on to how GA's Own is causing me to trigger these overdraft fees. It doesn't matter how many times you check your balance on the app or the computer when all someone from the Credit Union has to do is re-order your transactions. So Now I barely use the account. I only had these problems with GA's own. No other financial institution.

I wish I could give a "zero" rating! The Customer Service "support" is rude, they are NOT helpful…read moreat all, and they can never answer my questions. Rudest Customer Service I have ever dealt with.
