My elderly sister has had many pets over the years--over fifteen by a recent count. After becoming a widow, she moved from South Dakota to live with us and brought her remaining old cat. She had always taken excellent care of all her pets and spared nothing to help keep them in optimal health. After most of a year in our home, she recognized the signs that this one had reached the end of life, so we made an appointment at TLC Cat Clinic. My sister followed the doctor's recommendations and brought in the kitty couple of times with no solid improvement. On the final visit, the doctor laid out a plan for treatment that included repeated visits to the clinic. My sister said she wished to have her pet euthanized. She explained she had watched many animals decline in their old age and recognized her beloved kitty was not going to have a reasonable quality of life beyond this point. The demeanor of the veterinarian quickly changed. The doctor said that it was not my sister's decision to make. (The exact words were, "I make that decision.") She then repeated the course of treatment as if any other thoughts were irrelevant. Given the startling change in the vet's tone and attitude, we did not speak at all. I had never heard of a vet refusing the request to euthanize a suffering animal, especially one so old and miserable. My sister was already mourning her decision to put down her pet that had been her companion since the loss of her husband a year earlier. She was not prepared to argue with a contentious vet to get it done. In the end, we found a sympathetic veterinary clinic and my sister mourned her pet as well as her husband. Sadly, the new owner of TLC cat clinic is nothing like previous owners that really cared for their patients. I was going to the clinic for 15+ years and never had any problems. Last time my cat was seen by Dr. Shea mid-May, 2025. Doctor changed dosage for thyroid medication (I'm not sure it was necessary as his thyroid blood markers were within normal range) and said that the blood should be checked in couple months to make sure it is the right dose, which was done mid-September. Now it's mid-November and I need a refill for medication. It's only 2 months after the blood test and doctor refused the refill, said that my cat is due for another appointment, that it should be done twice a year... really??? I go to the doctor ones a year and get prescriptions for 12 months. Not saying that it is a big stress for the cat and very expensive. This doctor cares about her profits more then about her patients... Looks like I need to change the clinic, very sad... read more

My cat was very ill and although they are not a emergency clinic they gave me exceptional care I had to take my baby to the hospital, then he came home only to have to return to Tlc for his last visit. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and great prices. It was only $35 for a check up and they spent a good 15 min. grooming my medium/long haired cat. My cat's coat was matted up in some spots and they were able to get all of it out. The vet also recommended foods to improve her diet and took the time to answer all my questions. The staff are very invested in making the cats feel calm and welcome. I also got a few food samples and a toy to take home for my cat. Dr. Shae and the lovely people at TLC Cat Clinic are the best in the business. They actually care and do thorough exams. I had taken my cat to a different vet a week prior because she wasn't eating well. He couldn't find anything wrong. Within minutes at TLC a large fracture in her tooth was found. As well as a tooth that would need to be pulled. The other vet said her teeth were fine. Her surgery went well and then we started working on her severe anxiety. We have been taking our cats to TLC for over 10 years and while we were sad to see the previous vets retire (although we wish them well!), we remain very pleased with the care we are getting from Dr. Shea and her team! Yes we no longer can purchase our food there but that small inconvenience is outweighed by the the advanced care we have received for our "high maintenance" little guy. We have made significant progress in getting his issues addressed. In addition to trying some new medical procedures, we have found Dr. Shea's willingness to connect over the phone and her team's timely follow up very helpful. Additionally, when we are in the office they are very welcoming, compassionate and caring. This was literally the best vet experience I have ever had. We recently moved with 2 cats and one started using the bathroom outside the liter box. After exhausting our googled options we decided they both had to go to the vet.Since we had just moved we needed a new vet and stumbled upon TLC. My husband brought both cats in this past Tuesday, we were able to get a same day appointment. The doctor was great with both cats but could only get a sample from one cat. This meant that we had to come back in with the other cat the next day. They fit us in right when they opened and were able to get the sample. It turned out that one of our cats did have an infection and needed some medication. The vet was extremely thorough and patient with us. She walked us through how to give the cat the pills, what products we could use to clean the previous mess, and how we could prevent stress for the cat. I will absolutely recommond TLC to all my friends with cats! read more

I have been using TLC Cat Clinic for years. The staff is incredibly friendly. I had a cat on a perception diet and if I walked in (unannounced) to pick up food, they immediately grabbed the exact bag I needed off the rack and asked me how he was doing by name before I even had the chance to say "hi". Its amazing how well they took the time to get to know me and the cat. And even better, their rates are very reasonable. I remember one time going to them in a panic because I found a strange lump on my cat which ended up just being a pimple (hey, I did not realize that cats got them too) and they charged me 1/2 price for the visit. Unlike other clinics I have tried, I never feel as though any services they suggest are simply things that they are doing for the extra money. They tell me what is needed, what is recommended now or soon, and what I can avoid doing. Even though I have moved farther away and there are clinics closer to me, I still find myself driving the extra time to take my cat to TLC. read more

What a wonderful vet clinic! I took our cat Aggie in today after struggling to find answers to her worsening respiratory issues at our regular vet. Aggie (and my other cats) HATE going to the vet, but after a few minutes at TLC Aggie was curled up comfortable and happy as can be. They have warm, soft cushions for the cats to sit on one the exam table, there are no loud noises, and the doctor even brought her a little dish of chicken baby food to see if she'd eat. More importantly, they diagnosed her issue right away, got her on treatment so she'll feel better, AND were much less expensive than I have been paying elsewhere. I'll never bring any of our cats anywhere else. This cat clinic is a great find! read more

Holy toledo this place is expensive. I brought my cat in for distemper and rabies shot and those seemed competitive with other vetrinarians so I scheduled a neuter for my cat expecting that to be reasonable. They did not communicate to me that an estimate would be emailed to me so when I brought my cat in I had sticker shock. I had made it all the way into Plymouth and had work deadlines so went ahead and decided to let them go ahead with the surgery because of time constraints and assurance that their prices were competitive. Their prices are NOT competive. They charged for another office visit even though my cat was just in a few days prior for vaccination. The office visit was $55, neuter ALONE $260.50, they said FIV testing was MANDATORY at $75, $23.50 for 3 post office tabs (pain meds), $13.00 for collar. They tried to slip in a micro chip for $50 but that and the Elizabethan collar (brought my own) were not mandatory so I was able to whittle my bill down. That is a whopping $534.00 for a neuter with pre op vaccines. Wow, how to places like this stay in business? I called 5 other vets after the fact (DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE), and found this vet to be twice as expensive as the most expensive vet. The highest of the five charged $198 for neuter alone but didn't charge for anything other then the vaccinations. It is a sad world we live in when vets fill the need to price gouge their patients. The service seemed good enough but it should be with that price tag. I have three cats and will never come back to this place. read more

I've never had a vet that has so much experience and intuition about cat behavior and health. I can say from experience with other vets, that is hard to find. One example: our cat has always had a large build. Previous vets would simply weigh her, pronounce her overweight, and recommend expensive diet foods and strict portion control that made her constantly meow for more food. TLC Cat Clinic recognized she's just got some Maine Coon in her, and with her big paws and build, she's just going to be a hefty cat and that's perfectly healthy for her. read more

The vet is caring and explains everything in detail and handles our four-legged loved ones with care. Called in the morning for an appointment and was able to get in the same day. My fury friend had tartar on the back of her teeth and the vet is able to use a small tool to scrap it off verses performing surgery. This does not hurt the feline and only takes a couple of seconds to perform. I've had many cats over the years and a couple of them needed a dental cleaning and previous veterinarian's used anesthesia which kept the cats overnight and they remain groggy for several days. This resulted in paying not only a small fortune in fees, but more importantly it is not healthy for the cat. TLC does the right thing for the cat and owner. TLC Cat Clinic is the absolute best cat clinic/vet I have EVER taken my cats to. They take the time to listen to you and carefully handle your cat. The docs even leave the door open to the back when they need to weigh the cat or take it back there for a moment. They are very transparent. There are no "time restrictions" to your appointment. There are no quick decisions to have an unnecessary tests that end up costing you buckets of money. Every decision for the wellness of your cat is backed up by pros and cons - as well as the information you need to make an informed health choice for your animal. First off, I have to say that I was a HUGE fan of TLC Cat Clinic before Dr. Shea and her new staff came on board. I had been a loyal customer for 20 years until the clinic changed hands last year. To say I am disappointed in the new owners would be an understatement. My cat was diagnosed with a simple eye infection while still under the care of Dr. Lovass. She needs a refill because her eye drops ran out. I called the clinic and asked them to please refill the eye drops. They refused to do so unless I came in and paid for a clinic visit...because Dr. Shea hadn't seen my cat in the past. Now, if this was some "serious" condition I would totally understand. However, it's an eye infection - conjunctivitis - not cancer. All she needs is a prescription refill from a prescription that is less than a year old (and therefore still valid). While on the phone with Joanna, I told her that I was very disappointed and they would be losing my business going forward. She promptly HUNG UP ON ME. To me, this only validated my opinion that this new group is nothing like the old owners. They are unaccommodating, rude and clearly don't have my cat's best interest at heart. My mom was also a loyal TLC Cat Clinic customer and had a similar experience when she brought her cat in to meet the new vet. Dr. Shea is not warm or overly friendly. It's clearly a business transaction only, whereas before it was like going to see old friends. It's sad, as both myself and my mom had been loyal to TLC for 20 years. It is rare to find a vet clinic that doesn't seem to just want to rack up the bills as high as they can go. This vet is honest, compassionate, and experienced. We had our cat put down and though it was awful to do, I know it was the best place for him. She was patient and let us wait until we were ready. The vet even gave us hugs afterwards. When I inquired about my other cat having issues, she was super helpful and gave me some ideas for treating him at home, whereas other vets would just tell me :bring him in". This vet is amazing. Both vets and the staff have been wonderful to my pets and my family over the years. They are so patient and understanding, and truly love kitties and their owners. They have worked with me as my kitties got older and started developing issues, and they are so accomodating when it comes to individual situations (one kitty could not be vacinated, which causes alot of trouble when trying to see a vet) and they worked with the situation. They shaved my cat when he was to old to clean himself well and it would be too traumatic to take him to a groomer (plus, they require they are vaccinated, which I couldn't do). This is not a usual service they provide, but it was what was best for Benny, my cat. Sadly, they have put two of my kitties to sleep there. What a terribly emotional time for our family, and we were devistated. They were so understanding, compassionate, and really tried to make it as easy for us as they could. The first one I couldn't stay for...I was a total wreck. They were fine with that, and put her to sleep with the utmost care and compassion I have no doubt. I regretted that decision, and when it was time to put my second kitty to sleep my husband and I stayed for it. They were fine with that too, and talked us through everything to expect before they did anything, and were so wonderful about the whole thing. They even sent a handwritten condolence letter afterward that was super personal and heartfelt. I couldn't recommend them more, and the prices are very reasonable as well. My experience with this clinic for cats has always been very positive. Both my cats have been treated with care and respect. The vets are also very considerate with the cost of treatment and are upfront about procedures and prices and are honest about it, too! When my cat was very sick, we only met with one vet, but both vets were very helpful and called me to follow up on progress. They seem to work together and I think that's very cool. It's quite a drive for us to visit, but it's definitely worth it! read more

You should know that this business is under new ownership, and all the glowing reviews belong to the previous owners. I have been taking my cat to TLC for almost 20 years, and I'm sad to say that the reasons I loved it have all gone away. Prices have skyrocketed, you can no longer buy food at the clinic (which was so convenient when you were there, with your cat,) all food and drugs are now only available though an online service. In the past, the vets were always at the front desk or would come out to speak to you, and now the new vet is in the back room, and just sends a message to you via the front desk assistant (who is new, and doesn't know anything about the practice, and takes forever to get an answer from the vet - not her fault, I'm sure.) The service is now totally impersonal. I don't feel the vet knows or cares who I am, or what is happening with my cat. I don't care how fancy their new waiting rooms are, or how much social media they now use, or how much their business has migrated online, I feel totally neglected when I go into the office. I'm very sorry they didn't realize what was special about the place when they bought it. I gave them a chance, but I'm done. read more

I first took my cat to TLC Cat Clinic when she was suffering from a GI issue (and possibly separation anxiety) when I called, they wanted to see her ASAP. I was able to get her in, medicated and she was fine in a few days. Today, I noticed my cat having blood in her urine. I called from work, and was unable to leave work early to be there for an appointment. They did not want to wait for a later day, I spoke to the vet and described everything, I was able to stop by after work, not only to get prescriptions for her, they also provided two cans of wet food, and different food samples for her and her urinary track. Both times when she was sick, not only did they provide adequate care, they ensure I have what I need at home to ensure her care. I highly recommend TLC Cat Clinic to be your vet for your kitties! Every time you call with a concern, they treat you and your furry friend as the number one priority and will make time for you and ensure your cat is taken care of. read more

I have brought my feline family members to TLC for many years (I'm guessing over 15 years). Both vets are wonderful and their expertise in cats would be difficult to top! When they haven't been able to treat, they have referred me to specialty vets (one of my cats had a corneal ulceration that required surgery). Bottom line, they know cats, are passionate about cats, and provide their expertise at a reasonable price. My only wish is they were closer to where I live! read more

I have never written a review but have had such a great experience with TLC cat clinic that I felt I should. I've had cats for over 25 years and recently adopted 2 Ragdolls (mother and son). The kitten had GI difficulties which other vets didn't know what to do with. Dr. Lovaas worked with me over the 6 months until it has completely cleared up. There were other issues as the Mom had been traumatized. They helped us through that as well. They always took my calls and were patient. If I needed to get them in, the clinic did so. Dr. Lovaas knows cats and clearly cares deeply about them. The vets would take calls and clean rooms if their tech was busy. The clinic clearly works as a team. Brought in my 7 year old tabby with a limp. Was told he had a torn ACL and a patellar luxation. Was informed that surgery would be needed ASAP at a cost of $3000-$4000 and was referred to an animal hospital off-site. After calling around, I was able to locate the board-certified surgeon who would be brought in to perform the operation. His personal office quoted me a price at half that rate. Upon his exam, however, which was no different than the one at TLC, he told me that yes, my cat's ACL was ruptured, but that there was no damage to the patella and that such an injury to both in the same leg is rare. He also informed me that the usual procedure is to give the cat rest for at least three weeks to see if there is improvement. Usually this sort of injury heals itself. He said it would take about 8 weeks to fully heal, but surgery could take as long as 10 weeks to heal. I went to TLC because they were close to my home and, by the nature of their business, I thought they would have expertise in dealing with felines. The information they gave me was designed to garner funds for an expensive referral with the added pressure of scheduling surgery as soon as possible to discourage my seeking second or third opinions, I suppose. They did not conduct their practice in the spirit of what was best for my cat but rather in their interest of draining my bank account. I will not be returning as there is no trust. Highly disappointed. read more

I took my cat here at end of life. The vet demonstrated experience and skill we had not seen in other centers. She was able to use a "bedside" assessment and reports from Banfield and the Emergency Hospital to give me the information I needed to make the right decision for my friend. Many other vets were concerned with exactly what was wrong, racking up large bills in the process. It just occurred to me to complete a YELP review so I could share the great experience I have had with TLC Cat Clinic. I have taken my cat to TLC for the past two years after she experienced a urinary issue. The care we were getting prior to that wasn't clearing up the issue, and more extensive tests were being recommended. As it turns out, she just needed to be on meds a week longer than what was recommended by our former care provider. My cat hasn't had an issue since and is thriving. The doctors at TLC are caring and take the time needed to discuss the issue and answer questions. Plus, I'm always surprised at how reasonable the fees are compared to what I was paying before. An extremely helpful and insightful phone call is the extent of my experience with TLC Cat Clinic thus far, but I was so impressed and so grateful that I was compelled to immediately write a review. I have written 2 other consumer/client review, ever, and this will be my 3rd. I'm helping to re-home an 8-10 week old farm kitten that received a wellness exam, de-wormer and was prescribed antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection at Banfield 3 days ago. He's going to a permanent home tonight where 2 adult cats already reside, and I simply wanted to confirm when it would be safe for him to join a multi-cat household, given his situation and the process of recovering from a feline upper respiratory infection. I can appreciate that vets/techs/receptionists aren't able to offer specific advice over the phone without having seen the animal, but my questions were generalized hypothetical questions about risks of common feline viruses/infections and how long to wait until introducing the kitten to the other resident cats to avoid contagion. Even the Banfield clinic where he was physically examined and from which he was prescribed antibiotics just 3 days ago wouldn't offer help beyond scheduling another appointment. So after scouring Google to find answers from syndicated research/articles, I spent upwards of 2 hours calling veterinarians/pet clinics around the Twin Cities, before finally accepting that I'd have no choice to either A. lie to the kitten's adopters - which wasn't an option - so, or A. personally absorb additional veterinary exam and expensive testing costs to make it possible for this poor kitten to be adopted. After a FHV-1 test at $150-200+ was recommended to me several times, I finally scheduled an appointment at 2nd clinic. On a whim, decided to call TLC Cat Clinic and explained my situation. In less than 10 minutes on the phone with TLC, I understood multiple realistic scenarios for underlying viruses that are common in felines (and could have inspired the kitten's resp. infection), the implications of each/how & when to get tested, and - most importantly - that the kitten can be left with his adopters tonight and recommendations to share with them regarding how long to keep him separated from the other cats before introduction, scheduling shots, etc. I definitely felt indebted, and almost guilty, after the call ended and I hadn't been sold on pricey 'sick' visits, labs, x-rays, etc. I can't say from experience that they do provide the best or most thorough or most affordable service, but I will urge you to at least call TLC Cat Clinic the next time your cat is due for healthcare so you can try it out. That's my plan as well, and I have a strong suspicion we won't be disappointed. read more
