I usually don't write reviews on anything but I was recently looking for Dr.Shoki Wahib's TMJ office address, when I happened to find this web site, with bad reviews about his practice, and or his office staff. This is why I felt the need to share my personal experience; which is a positive one. If you don't have the time to read my experience, I can tell you right now that Dr. Wahib is an amazing Doctor and there is nothing to loose by just scheduling an appointment with him; and listening to the options he can offer you, and also learn what TMJ really is. First let me tell you about myself, I'm a happily married 40 year old male, father of 2 beautiful girls; I'm a healthcare worker at a hospital in Cleveland, OH. I try to live a healthy life and always respect everyone's opinions. I had been under Dr.Shokri Wahib and his staff for nearly 5 years. This review is not based on first impressions or biased in any way, is just based on my experiences at his office. Well here is my story; Years ago I started developing neck pain, jaw pain, and earaches, I told my dentist and he decided it was related to a root canal, and new crown I had done recently at a Sears Dental office. Therefore they decided I have to remove that tooth in order to the pain to go away. I had the tooth removed, waited about 6 more months and the pain never went away. I then decided to go to an ENT specialist, which after spending a lot of money and receiving a lot of x-rays; concluded that most likely I have TMJ and referred me to Dr. Wahib's practice. I visited Dr. Wahib, he was super friendly and sat with me, he educated me about what TMJ is; and informed me of all the costs, and the need for the treatment for TMJ, and the different tests they use to diagnose it. Of course after spending thousands of dollars on having a root canal, then a crown, then a dental extraction, and then going to an ENT doctor that did several tests (CT scans, scoping your throat thru your nose, etc); I said well I already spent a lot of money, and if this tests are aimed to help me, I agreed with the costs of treatment of Dr. Wahibs dental office. I had the tests done; Dr. Wahib sat with me and helped me understand the results of every one of the tests performed. He explained to me that by taking in consideration all this tests I don't need surgery as a treatment, and the dental appliances for the TMJ treatment should work for me. I got my appliances, 2, one for day time and one for night time. They are unpleasant in the beginning, but after a few weeks I started feeling relief. Every month I had to visit the office and they measured my progress and adjusted the appliances accordingly. It took nearly 6 months after wearing the appliances for the pain to completely go away; but it finally did, after nearly 5 years of pain and unnecessary procedures, the pain was gone. I did question my Sears dentist and they said they never thought I had TMJ because my jaw wasn't locking. Well I proved them wrong and I never returned to their office. I wish I had been referred to DR. Wahib's practice a lot sooner. I could had seved a lot of money, years of pain, and unnecessary procedures. I owed Dr. Wahib a lot. I'm not rich, my insurance didn't cover any TMJ related procedures, but I made a wise decision by treating my TMJ condition with Dr. Wahib. OK, once the TMJ was gone, What? They offer me 2 options to prevent the TMJ pain from coming back. First was the use for braces to correct my bite, and second the use of a modified dental appliance for life. Of course I debated the 2 options, but I ended agreeing with the braces, since I already knew my other dentists had advised me to do it. It is indeed the best option, and it has many benefits that will repay you with good oral health for years to come. Before I agreed to the braces, Dr.Wahib warn me that even after the braces are used, there is still a chance of the TMJ problem to come back; and the possible reasons for this to happen. It took about 18 months of monthly visits to finalize the Ortho treatment. In every visit ( about 10 to 15 min) the braces were adjusted according to the progress. The staff is very friendly, they were the ones that took care of me during the follow up visits, they always answered my questions, and when they couldn't; they ask Dr. Wahib to stepped into the room and answer my concerns. It is a standard in every dental office to have trained personnel to take care of the progress of the Ortho treatment, they know when to have the Doctor involved during the visit. I had my braces removed 6 months ago, and I'm on the phase of just wearing my retainers, and I can say that I'm free of TMJ pain thanks to Dr. Wahib and his wonderful staff. I also know of coworkers that are currently under his care and they are happy with their results. read more

If you have TMJ, you may be as desperate to relieve the pain as I was. The initial visit made me hopeful. I went for it! the 3K was an obstacle but I was in a lot of pain and a previous dentist told me to find a TMJ specialist. I found this one it was not suggested. This center makes healing sound possible tho they do tell you that they CANNOT REPLACE THE DISPLACED DISC (remember this....this is important) there are countless tests 1st..Hundreds of dollars of tests BUT they seem to refer only to the Xrays. The mouth guard is extremely un-comfortable....EXTREMELY. You get somewhat used to it after the sores settle down. There is also a night-time mouth guard . After 6 months the TMJ pain is down to to minimal to none. BUT now you either have to wear the day time mouth guard for the rest of your life to maintain the pain free OR orthodontics for 6K. Please check with a few other ORTHODONTIST. Tho Dr. Wahib is a general dentist and good at TMJ he is not an orthodontist. He himself will tell you as will all orthodontist YOU CANNOT REPLACE THE DISPLACED DISC. Your bite may be improved but there is no guarantee that your beautiful straight teeth will really help the joint issues. Sadly.....everything I read echoed this but I really wanted to believe that The TMJ & Headache Center had new technology. The bite guard keeps the bottom jaw and the upper jaw joint from rubbing and that does help to heal. The catch is that you would lose your mind if you had to wear it EVERY DAY....EVERY MEAL....FOREVER. Braces 'might' make an improvement but it is a gamble. Go to a couple of orthodontists. They have free initial consultations. The TMJ center charges $135.00 for the initial consult. If you are going to end up in braces anyway this is where to start. I feel stupid for the expense but have to admit the the TMJ fire is out for awhile, but the orthos said ice, soft food, tylenol for the inflammation and a night bite guard and time will get you to a similar result. *SAVE YOUR THOUSANDS AND FOLLOW MY NEXT ADVICE* THIS IS AN UPDATE: I AM STILL WEARING THE BITE GUARD FOR NIGHT TIME. THIS IS VERY HELPFUL. YOU CAN GET THESE AT YOUR DENTIST OR ORTHODONTIST . THE NIGHT TIME BITE GUARD, PAIN RELIEVERS AND ICE FOR TMJ FLARE UPS. THIS IS WHAT WILL HELP TMJ SUFFERERS. read more

My jaw started to hurt after some dental work and the dentist said I had a problem with my jaw joint (TMJ) and he suggested to find a practice that specializes in treating in TMJ problems. I found this practice via search engine.The first visit was pleasant and the staff is very friendly,however I felt like I was pushed as soon as I walked in to purchase these bite-guards the office staff calls "orthotics" that run upwards of $2000. I purchased the one that is wore at night for $800 because the doctor said I was grinding my teeth at night.After wearing it for a few weeks my jaw started to hurt even more and it would pop more often and even start to crack,something that never happened before.I called and asked the person who answered the phone if that was normal and she said the doctor would be informed and call me. I never got a return call.I eventually went back and was told it was my fault because I grind my teeth,but that is what the orthotic I purchased was for,it makes no sense.I stopped wearing the orthotic and my jaw started to feel a bit better but it actually hurts more now than before treatment. read more

Those seeking treatment for TMJD,please seek treatment elsewhere.This is my honest advice that will save you time,money and spare you added pain and suffering.My treatment with them lasted about a year and a half,in that span of time I did not get better,but also got worse.I was told I needed a night appliance($700) that was never fitted right.Later on,I was told I needed a day appliance($1400).The majority of the work is done by 2 assisants,the dear Dr. never seems to be in,always on vacation or eating lunch.Adjustments to the appliances are done by the assistants without consulting the Dr. who should be supervising.My night splint was adjusted so badly I started getting horrible ringing in my ears,a few trips later and the problem still had not been fixed.My night appliance has been filed down so much,it no longer stayed in place.I was told to "wear Poli-Grip" on it.Pricing varies,after a few adjustments to appliances,they spring charges on you ranging from $50-$100. Initial visit was ok,Dr.Wahib seemed like a nice guy but after agreeing to a $900 "dental appliance" that did not fit right,I was treated poorly for complaining. I was informed they do not do returns on an appliance even though it was not fitted properly...Strange practice. read more
