I have an area in my basement where I keep metal waste. Just household knickknacks, e-waste and decommissioned appliances I've set aside over the years b/c I know they don't belong in the garbage. ANYTHING that contains metal, this place will accept them. Things I had were: - USB phone charging cables - Old pots & pans - Broken small appliances ie. electric kettle, hairdryer, iron, rice cooker, hand mixer - Christmas lights from the 90's (lol) - Burnt out monitors x2 - Rusted rotors I'm all for recycling initiatives. If it doesn't break your back transporting the items then I think it's a simple chore to do to help the landfills. I've been to other metal recycling centers but many of them seem to pull numbers out of thin air which doesn't earn my trust. I found Triune through forums, read great reviews all around so I thought this time I'd give them a try. Location is right off of 401, super convenient. Nothing fancy. It is literally a junkyard. Piles of scrap metal all over the place. Dirt road (lol the guy behind me came in his sparkly clean Porsche, so yeah.. don't do that!) But as messy as the place may seem, they have a system in place, even a POS system (see receipt) which super impressed me! They took each item as it was, I received no judgement here, not like some places where they'll give you attitude for bringing in something small or low quality that's "not worth their time". I'm very pleased with their assistance and service. I will definitely come back to recycle here again. }} How-to: Drive to the end of the road, you'll see their sign. Upon arrival, park as close to the building as you can. Grab a shopping cart, load your items, and they'll help you move the cart up to the loading dock with a forklift. From there, they'll weigh items by category and you'll receive your payout. Easy. Receipt included. You take your cans/bottles, throw them on a counter, someone else counts them and then pays you…read more You don't have to touch sticky, gross cans yourself and you get money so it's pretty awesome. You can donate the money from the cans to charity if you'd like, they have a huge list of them they support (or you can purchase more beer, I won't judge.) Everyone here is helpful and courteous. If they're not too busy, they'll help you carry your stuff from your car to the shop. You're also recycling so you're doing awesome for the planet.

I also like how their hours with alternatively Early Morning (8:00 am) opening and Late Evening (8:00 pm) closing. Here you can drop off Styrofoam, Tires, Fluorescent Lights/Tubes and other recyclable items that cannot be recycled curbside using the Blue Box. You can also pick up extra Green/Blue Box here or exchange damaged Green/Blue Box here without charges as long as the box has Markham logo on it. Staff here always really helpful in sorting out the stuff I dropping off and of course I was just so happy to get a brand new green and blue bin!

I read the reviews of Just Junk and found them to be fast - they arrived early. They were fair - offering a fair price to remove 1/3 of a truck in waste. They were fast. Everything picked up and gone in 12 minutes. It certainly made the mountain of boxes in my garage disappear. Plus they take donations so that some of it is diverted from the landfill. I was cringing at the idea of going to the dump to actually pay to have them get rid of all this metal. Then, I learned that I could actually sell it at Apick! The friendly staff weighed our metal and gave us some money for it. Not a lot of money, but some, which is much better than ....the alternative: paying a dump to get rid of it for you (and they would likely just resell it to some scrap metal folks). You would'nt see a red cent. At Apick, we got some cash for our old metal stuff. It helps if, before you go, you sort your offerings into Ferrous vs. Nonferrous. Basically, if it is Ferrous, a magnet will stick to it; however, a magnet does not cling to a non ferrous metal. It is a good idea to perform these tests with a little magnet before you go. Next time you have to clean out your garage or throw away some metal things (like appliances) remember Apick, and grab a magnet from your fridge.
